While talking about searching for topics, whenever I search it displays a whole bunch of unrelated stuff, so I am just after some tips.

Cheers.

[Might want to post someting constructive next time stinky04 ]

the best tip is using the word "and" so if you type "Boxxer spring" you'll get every topic with the word boxxer in it and every thread with the word spring in it, if you use "boxxer and spring" you'll get threads with both words in it.

i dont no a whole heap about forks but to me they just look really weak and bendyish

they wouldnt sell them if they were crap

the search is a simple boolean search the use of "and" "not" and "or" will help your search.

i predict theres going to be a lot of steerers missing from the 7" shermans later on down the track..

I think the 7 inch shermans will be sick! Although maybe they should beef up the crown a bit ;)

atleast they'll have the whole market covered in single crown forks. 3" for urban/street, 4-5" for trails/dh/whatever, 6-7" for the rest

I disagree, I think Manitou will be so eager to prove the merits of 1.5 that the steerer won't be anything like the weakest link...

So they can get their forks on bikes which use 1 1/8" headtubes.

I've never ridden 6 or 7" single crowns, but I'd assume that you wouldn't get the same solid and direct steering and general feel that you would with dual crowns either. If you do then they've done a fackin good job.

That's what they're claiming to have done. Having briefly ridden a 6" Breakout and compared it back to back with an 02 Boxxer, the Breakout is just as stiff and direct. I imagine the 7" breakout is pretty schtiff too.

anything that big in single crown will be strong enough in its own right..but whether it is four, five, seven or 12 inches if you abuse a fork and use it for something it was not specified to do it will fark itself. i am not a fan of using a single crown fork for downhilling, the high speed virbations and rutts will eventually work their way through the crown, but if you have the spare 1500 lying around why not go a 7" single crown sherman...especially when you can buy a boxxer world cup from europe for 1300??? i know what fork i'd be buying!

i'm scared of anything bigger than 5" on a single clamp... why would they make a flexy fork even flexier?

Yeah, Shermans are REAAAL flexy. Having ridden a 6" Breakout literally back to back with a Boxxer (and done the between-the-knees crap, as well as pushing them into walls), guess which one was stiffer?

Remember years ago "3 inches is too much for a singlecrown fork"....

how would that be great ? dual crown forks dont really flex in the headtube so why have the added weight ?

You get much larger clamping area for the crowns, allowing for thinner crowns and thus lower ride height against travel... not to mention the benefit for the headset.

From what I've read, having a 1.5" front ends main advantages is it gives alot more strength in the head area... not just for the fork, but for the frame and headeset. And as Socket said, weight can actually be dropped by going to a bigger setup, and availability of 1.5" DC's would give frame builders more reason to step up to the bigger standard.
