Looking at picking up a cheap 2005 Specialized Enduro to use as a trail bike, however have heard that they are a bit heavy and that a Stumpjumper FSR 120 might be more suitable as an all day all conditions sort of ride. At 110kg so am not as concerned about an extra kilo or two on my bike as a smaller rider guy might be. I need to order in whatever I choose since the LBS doesn't keep XL bikes in stock, so test rides are out of the question. Any advice, comments on either of these bike would be appreciated.

I'm certainly no authority on bikes, but I did briefly own a 2003 Enduro expert. Now back then a 5" (120mm) bike was considered to be "all mountain trail". It was also kinda heavy... mainly cuz I built it up myself. So now you get the stumpy 120 that weighs something like 13kg and still has 5" of travel, so you essentially get xc lightness with "all mountain" travel.

That said, the head angle is a degree slacker on the enduro and there might be a difference in BB heights which will change their performances somewhat.

To me the Stumpy 120 seems like a good bike, but I'm also considering buying a stumpy or a reign so I'm kinda in the same boat.

I dunno if this helped at all, but it's just a thought I had about the stumpy :)

I have just been going through the same thing.

I am 6'3" and 105kg. I test rode a Stumpy in L and XL, enduro L, and Trance L and I ended up getting the Large Stumpjumper, the difference in sizing was very minimal between the L and XL so either way if you can modify it with stem length and seat position to suit. My Stumpy is a 120 comp and is about 13.3kg and is bloody nice up and down hill. 5 inches with propedal and lockout on rear.

If your in Brizzy check out Pro Am Cycles at Albany Creek, they have a XL 2005 Stmpy Comp there for $2600 and are keen to sell it.

Thanks for the input.
I saw that Pro-Am had a XL stumpy on sale, problem is I'm stuck in Townsville for another 6 weeks, so can't just pop in and check it out. I took a Large 05 enduro for a quick car park ride. It felt really nice, but did seem a bit on small side, so would have to go an XL. Still hard to get a feel for how much the weight would affect a ride without getting on a trail on one.

Well they have had it for a while so fingers crossed if you can get down in 6 weeks you might still be able to get it.

There's a guy on here selling an 05 enduro Pro Model, its a large which is border line for size, longer stem would fix it up for length, and I'd have a fair bit of seat post showing. The bling factor of the Pro model is very tempting, lots of pretty XT and XTR components and Fox Float 36 RC2 TALAS forks. Hmmmmm:D

I had a 2002 Enduro, broke 2 frames, and now have 2005 Stumpy 120 on warranty, and she climbs so much nicer than the old Enduro. Howver I only weigh 80 kilo's. A firend has both an Intense and the new Enduro, weighs 105(I think) and has finally settled on the Enduro as his all day bike, cos the Intense jsut wasn't satisfactory for his weight.
