Thats very funny, especially at the end when the passer by suggested a different method. I think it would be different in Australia than America though. I hope...

Yeah I don't use a lock. Most of the time my girlfriend is with me as well so one of us can stand guard. We try never to leave a bike in a spot where it has to be locked.

I've got a QR seatclamp with a Thomson post, and decent wheels both on QR's. It's going to be pretty hard to stop someone taking something something off my bike if they wanted it.

At least if someone steals a thomson post you know that they're not just some hack that's going to stick it on their bmx:p

jks jks. If i had a thomson, and had to leave my bike, i'd take it in the backpack for safekeeping..

thats been posted before- the problem with it is that all the methods aside from the bolt cutters are far too obvious to draw suspicion to the guy - so its a bit of a crock of bullshit, but somewhat entertaining- like ACA

hahahaha thats nuts, as if know one even asked if it was his, or whatever... then again you wouldn't know if he was going to like turn around and smack you one... interesting though

Say you asked him, and he didn't smack you one, or give you a new face with the angle grinder. Say he said it WAS his, what then?

now that is bad it was so plainly to see he was stealing the bike people were just walking past like nothing was happening

What did you expect them to do? Tackle him and handcuff him?
Sure they could have called the police, but the benefits of that are very intangible, considering the police probably wouldn't care, would probably tun up after the thief was long gone.
Even If I saw who was doing it, I wouldn't give a statement to the police. It just wouldn't be worth my time to spend an hour or so at the cop shop telling them what happened, and then risk being summoned to court.

Also, its a crime happening at the moment, but really, its not an emergency as I see it. I don't think many people could justify calling 000 and diverting resources from potentially far more important situations in order to possibly save what they perceive to be a 50 buck kmart bike.

In addition, the dude din't look like a thief. People wouldn't expect a thief to be so confident.

Exactly. Who gives a crap about some dude stealing a bike like that. Sure it might be your pride and joy but no one else sees it that way. And yeah he didn't look that suspicous (sp).

I did laugh though that there was a handy powerpoint in the light pole for the angle grinder. what the?

Only an american would go to suc lenghts to steal a bike. If it wasn't locked up and and that the only time an aussie would steal something.Lazy Barstards we are.

my front wheel is QR, but i have hydraulic v-brakes, so its impossible to remove the front wheel without deflating the tyre :p
and my seat is TINY, and i wouldnt care if someone stole it, its on a allen key seat clamp

EDIT:  holy crap! grave dig.... sorry didnt notice

Wow that is really really bad.. it depends on how you approach the bike i guess though. He was real calm and didnt like throw the lock or bolt cutters and get away as quick as he could..

Ide like to see someone from australia try this..I dont think the people from the city would do as much because a lot more odd stuff like that happens than out here. Further out from the city in more suburban areas people would report that sort of stuff because thats what the folk out here are like :P

And if you are going to leave your bike somewhere for half hour +..buy a cheap bike that you dont really care what happens to it rather than having your prized possesion stolen.

Or put a gps locator or something inside the frame? If you have money anyway..that way you could get your bike back and get the guy that did it.

Then we have to ask ourselves how hidden was the camara?...

And if i saw some one stealing that bike, its easily replacable, compared to my 8 thousand dollar dh bike.... But i suppose who rides there dh bike to the shops and locks it up? You would have to have some serious trust in your neighbourhood to do that!!...

Pretty poor video, they could of done it much better. Like some one said before they could of gotten rid of the safety equipment to make it look more realistic... Since when do thieves care about ear muffs...

if you saw someone doing those things in the street, you would keep walking and not do a thing either, you're kidding yourself if you say you would.
your first impresison would be that the sucka lost hte key to his lock.

the only way your bike can be safe is if youve got it with you. but then you can get jumped, and thats a whole other subject.
