I am currently riding a 02 Kona Stinky. It has the old Fox Vanilla R on it, with no lockout or platform. I'm looking to upgrade, spending preferably around $400, maybe more. I dont mind second hand either. I'm not sure what to get. I do mainly XC, and the pedal bob is really pissing me off. How effective are the platforms, or is lockout necessary? The current shock is 200mm eye to eye with a 40mm stroke. The frame can only handle 60mm of shock stroke so a 40-50mm stroke shock would be best.
Any advice is greatly appreciated

Hey mate,
There have been lots of threads like these lately
If you ride mainly XC i would be looking at an air shock. Will get the weight down. and can eliminate pedal bob
Other options is a DHX, Swinger, 5th Element
The DHX is the best, then the 5th and the swinger (equil sort of)
You can get a Manitou Swinger 6-way off Torpedo7 for $400 or a (4way for $300, (Recomonded)

XC on a Stinky? Man, they weigh as much as my DH bike!!! Why not stop the torture and sell the whole bike and get something a little more XC friendly?
