"whoops, i retract my statement, my foot is well and truely in my mouth. well done to mark, if its his first race that guy is going to be fast"

Anyway, Well done to Dylan Prohm, a well deserved win (in U17) and a killer time too, that kids going places.

Hahaha, hows the sandbagger who won expert, he would have got 2nd in elite.

It was that "sandbagger"s first ever race!!! He announced on the podium that he would race elite next time. Top effort for a first timer!!!

Yeah I heard him saying that before the race though I think he was fairly confident.

Anybody else have a discrepancy on their time? That's is a different time posted to the one I heard and was told.
Not that I'm particularly worried about my time as I'm not in the running it just worries me seeing a different time posted than what I got.

That was my mate that won expert and yes it was his first race, we knew he was fast but we had no idea he was going to go that fast! he actually came off a couple of times during his race run too!

So where does this term "sandbagger" come from anyway, I know what it means but just curious to know its origin?

How does a rider decide when to move up to the next class? in Marks case its obvious, but how many seconds do you have to win by? can it be judged on one race? there's always going to be some overlap of the times between classes so how do we know when its time to step up?

I could be way off but I think it hails from rock climbing. If a climber puts up a new route they get to grade it. Giving it a harder grade than it should have to make yourself look better is called sandbagging.

ie "It might be that hard,, if you're climbing with sandbag strapped to your back."

year i also heard a different time,
there was three of us that finished together maybe there was a mistake, but it doesn't really matter it was only 12 seconds.

Don't get me wrong, but if your mate pulled that time with a couple of offs, then he should be representing the country... Or is your statement slightly inaccurate?
Big ups to him though for his podium speech and decision to enter Elite next race. Respect

Welcome to Thredbo's summer season. We were there though enjoying the atmosphere or lack thereof

That would be due to Bram's run at the end of the day. Bram was doing the starts so naturally couldn't do his run with the rest of his category.

Huge amounts of bad luck there Dave. I was looking forward to another close battle this season but I guess that'll have to wait. Hope ya heal up quick mate http://forums.farkin.net/images/icons/icon14.gif

Uhh yeah that was unbelievably lame on RawNRG's behalf.
It's good to hear though that several people gave cheek about it while giving their podium speeches. Well done to everyone who did!

On a side note, thanks to the rider who thanked my efforts on the podium. I'm sorry I wasn't there but hearing about it makes the effort all the more worth while.

A full race report will be up in the next few days...

See you at Lithgow on the 6th/7th of May

I dont mean to raggle on about it but i thought it was a bit ridiculous that:

1. They gave hats as prizes
2. They ran out of hats to give to everybody who got top 3 and not even everybody was there to recive.

owell all in all was good fun.

I know he came to a complete stop when he hit a tree in his 1st "off" I'm not sure what happened in the 2nd I'd have to ask him.

Good to see a guy win on such an ugly bike too! keepin it real on the red & green Bullit.

But firstly, what would be the benefit of doing that, and secondly... the "sandbag" analog given makes sense... so what if it's the way you say it is... explain the "sandbag" part.

I can't explain the origin,

But there are a few suggested explanations here

I'm not certain, but I think "sandbagging" refers to the practice of building a barrier (as in sandbags used in warfare trenches) between your skill level and the one above you i.e to protect your standing, drop a level and hide down in the lower grades, behind the theoretical sandbags. Common in many sports.

That was pretty harsh matey ..

I ride a $3000 bike ( kermit the Crafty ) and dont yell at anyone ..
unless you get in my way on the track ( still no swearing ) ..

And same as Squidly ,, fellas were cutting torugh the
bunting in the new section so i made a loud mention
of it from the Chair as well ( no swearing though ) just
to stay in the bunting , as they way they were going you
make up 3 seconds easy taking out a whole turn ..

In all the pirce of someones bike doesn't come into it dude
as there are plenty of dickheads out there on V10's and the likes
and they aint cheap buddy ..

just my .85 cents

Anybody else have a discrepancy on their time? That's is a different time posted to the one I heard and was told.

yea, when i finished i could of sworn the guy said i got 6.51, and a few of my mates thought thats what he said too, but they posted that i got 7.51, fucking anoying, i was very very VERY happy with 6.51, and even pretty surprised, then i found out it was 7.51 :(, although, it makes more sense for me, ha.

Hats. Your kidding right.
I missed the presentation. can someone confirm that 1st, 2nd, 3rd. in each class especially 'elite' received hats as a placing prize.
Thats a frigin joke.
I'd like the treaserer of MTBA or whoever is involved in the funding of the comp post up a costing of where the money went.
Man there is something dodgy going on there.

yeah mate there wasn't even enough to go around so only first in elite got a hat, and bindi hatcher got a fox hat as they didn't have any raw nrg ones left which i think is pretty poooo....but the answer is yes it stunk to high heaven...

Ohh man, whats doin.
so with my rough but generous calculations.
209 competitors at $100 each.
equals $20,900.
ranout of NRG hats so we had to scrounge up a fox hat for the women.
shite guys who's running this freak show.
