Coming to after a knee reconstruction wasn't fun, especially since I couldn't reach the pethadine (I think?) button for the first few hours! I'm thinking about getting a branding soon though, so that should be an interesting experience.

Gave birth to two children :) (one of them 3 day labor  )

Actually, I can think of two things that hurt more.

1: Broken collarbone about 4 hours previous. go to pub, no painkillers so I can drink. Split level bar, someone knocks a beer in one of those heavy dimpled beer mugs off the railing, it lands on my collarbone..... I scream. FARRRRRRRRRKKKKKKKKK!!!

2: Severe Kidney infection strikes while riding a horse out in the mountains, overnight ride.... eventually find someone semi sober enough to drive me to hospital about 6 hours later... spend the next few days in and out of conciousness due to pain. Had 3 separate bugs, the antibiotics they were giving me only got 2 of them..... pain went when they got the drugs right. Waited to Wednesday from saturday for pathology results :(

I've had heaps of injuries and stuff, but that's the worst of it.

THE most intense pain I've ever experienced is using OpSite (spray on wound dressing) on myself. Worse than a severely sprained ankle, broken and dislocated toe and various MTB related flesh wounds. Worse than someone else using a brillo pad to clean rock rash on my leg.

IT HURTS!!!!!

Gonna turf it soon and get something else.

Came off my bike doing skids in some gravel. Smashed up one wrist, fractured the other. Didnt hurt too much at the time, but the next morning, GOOD GOD THAT HURT!

Worst thing is I broke the bone that connects the thumb to the wrist so I lost the use of one hand for quite a while.

My dad once had kidney stones, he was told its one of the most painful things anyone can go through (a woman who had them said it was 3 times worse than childbirth). Worst part was that he was in the middle of nowhere at the time it struck (150km east of laverton).

When i did my thumb in a while ago, it pinched a nerve or something went massive funny in there for a good 20mins. It was absolutly blinding. I think i squashed something i shoudlnt have... Regardless... Was absolutly blinding pain. Well worse than doing it in the first place.

Breaking my elbow during an ice hockey game, and playing the remainder of the game with it (two and a half period to go)... Then sitting in emergency for about 6 hours the following day only to hear "ummm yeah there isn’t much we can do for it". Nothing new to me, as I have broke 2 elbows and fractured one.

Getting sprayed in the eye by a stink bug wasnt toooooo bad...
Been hit in the back of the head with a golf ball (Hit by MikeT using a driver), that didnt acutally hurt very much..
Had someone dive onto me in a pool, i was comming up from the bottom and he kinda swan dived into me, head meet head underwater, i got a huge fucking lump on my forhead..That didnt hurt too much i think.
Broken elbow wasnt too bad, just numb..
Probably fracturing my toes countless times would be the worst, that shit sucks.
Come to think, i've been pretty lucky!

EDIT: Scratch the toes! Losing my front two teeth did suck quite large anus.
Did a belly flop on a trampolene(How ever the fuck its spelt) and landed face first on the metal bar going around it, teeth meet metal! Snaped them both in half...What an experiance!

I'm a wimp with a short memory so it's my elbow, right now.

Ooooh hang on.

I did a stint of exploration survey work for a mine. I got a wisdom tooth infection and was unable to eat properly. My mouth was stupidly sore. Took quite a few days before i got any antibiotics. No days off, just had to keep working. I wasn't a happy chap.

I cut through my little fingernail down to the bone on a big burr on a steel block I was milling on a huge mill.

I thought I was going to pass out from the pain. Only time I've ever had that feeling even from my broken back.

THEN my stupid boss gets a bottle of ether (an old school anaesthetic, which has been often used as a recreational drug) to clean the wound out. The fumes ensured I had to be assisted to the first aid room, where the first aid guy put some betadine on it, a bandaid and sent me back to work. Thing ached like a bastard all day, so I went to the doctor that night, who immediately gave me 2 weeks off work, as apparently wounds under fingernails can't be dressed because they just go soggy & pussy and won't heal properly.

Pain is pretty subjective though

Well i sail rite and although it mite not seem that anything bad can happen a lot can.
We capsized and there are these things called venturys that let the water out and one was down. i was climibing onto the hull. My leg slipped i slised my left shit rite open. a 4 inch hole is in my leg and im sitting on the top of a boat screaming my head off. Of course there was salt water to add which hurt as well. and blood pouring out ontop of everything im suprised there wernt sharks around in a few minutes. anyway i got driven into shore on the motorboat the lady went completly white she couldnt take her eyes off it. im sitting there holding it closed with one had and trying not 2 fall off the boath with the other.
2 hours after wheeling around in a wheel chair at mona vale hospital. I finally get called up. The most pianful thing about the whole thing was the stitches. She put the nedle into my skin into the flesh and bone to inject numbing stuff. That was the most painful thing i have ever felt. later in the afternoon and 14 stitches later i went to the movies with my friend. I had people looking at me with blue wire in my shin. haha

Sorry bout the length but i had to tell a story

Cheers Al

when i was about 11 i was into skatebording, i live in a hilly area.
so i tryed to go down this massive scary hill on it (i can get 62kp/h down it on my bike)
anyway, just as i was getting to the bottom i got the death wobbles, then procded to be thrown fordards off the board and slid/rolled down about 15 meters of road, verry painfull, so just as i stop rolling and am feeling where it hurts most, crack, skateboard hits me in the side/kidney area, fuck that hurts:mad:
i kinda moved away from yteboarding after that, DH is so much safer:rolleyes:
i also had pepper put in my eye (a mate did it as a practical joke) which also cained a lot.

Pain is pretty subjective though
Very true there, pain is a totally unmeasurable thing. The worst thing I have ever done is at the Long Gully ride day (victoria people). At lunch time, I was playing around on the big launcher down the bottom (having already hit it 5-6 times succesfully before). I just got a bit to careless, and missjudged my takeoff (over 25 foot, a tiny bit oftarget on the takoff gets pretty bad). I hit the side of the landing, which was still soft from being built the day before. Concussion, and a sore shoulder later, I could only ride the old track after that, and could barely hold the bars after a decent drop.

Went to the doctors a few days later, had to have exrays, and that thing that pregnant women get to see the baby (the name escapes my right now). Turns out the shoulder was dislocated, and I had ripped in half a muscle in the back of the shoulder (started with s, someone might know the name). My knee also had a chip off the bone that was floating around fromt he same incident. 6 weeks off everythign slightly physical, or putting my arm above the level of my chest.

Ahhh, I love telling everyone my troubles. Others have had worse luck though. I'm paraniod about the pain of smashing my teeth. (especially after 2 years witht he whole braces n shit deal).

I was 25 miles out to sea fishing when I got struck down by appendicitis. We headed in and I felt every bloody wave we bounced over (1.5m waves on 3m swell) took 1 and half hours to get back to the ramp, me and me mate get the boat on trailer, (not even tied down) and as my mate cant drive I drove to the nearest hospital, pulled up in the emergency ambulance bay then I literally fell into a ball on the ground as I opened the car door in excruciating pain. ( the doc came out , took one look at me, said "its appendicitis- prep him") I was operated on nstraight away.
Once I woke from surgery the surgeon told me he doesnt know how it didnt burst, cause it was the size of an apple. The pain associated with acute appendicitis was far worse than anything Ive ever experienced..

ok, year 7. most of us were probably 40-50kg back then. interschool rugby league - first game of the season. the other team has this kid who is pushing 100kg, picture a 6' brick shit-house islander playing in primary school rugby league....

so me being brave (stupid) went into make the first tackle on him 5 minutes into the game - bam steps on the outside of my ankle - snap.

I don't mind any external types of injuries, but anything internal i can't stand. I guess you can only judge how much pain the other person would have been in by think of what you would have done in their situation. And that's why I have thinking about anything to do with the teeth. Grrrr, it scares me. People here are alot braver than me.

hmm, I feel a little post whorish today, 4 posts in 20 minutes.

- I've done some silly things to myself on purpose... the most painful being dermally removing a 12mm section of ear cartilage... that really smarts, closely followed by the first shower after having my chest branded. Most of it is documented here
http://forums.farkin.net/showthread.php?t=23631

- Unintentionally, tearing my ACL roganing in the Watagans and crawling my ass out of there 12km back to the hash house.

I smashed my right side kidney into pieces.

It happened back in year 11 of high school. Me and a couple mates decided to wag maths and head down to the BMX track. I was doing a jump and my old manitou forks decided to seperate mid air taking the front wheel with them, I landed and the bars or seat slammed my kidney, puntured my bowel and crushed a bit of my lung.

Because of the extras I had to get cut right down the middle of my front and had 42 staples holding me back together. The most painful part was after the surgery and the doc would come around daily and make me cough which would rip pain through my recently re-joined stomach muscles.

In order – Virtually all from rugby and league.
Nerve damage to my neck
Broken bottom vertebrae
Knee reco.
Dislocated elbow (Both bones through the skin)
Dislocated shoulder *2
Broken ankle
Tattoo
Broken hand
Hernia
Bit my tongue in half. Not that painful but pretty ugly. Healed well though, can only just see the line across it. (The bite was through a dislocated jaw)
Appendicitis
I’ve had about 200 stitches, so I won’t bore you with the individual injuries.

When I was 11 i was racing my mate down a road on my BMX. Anyway, I didn't have shoes on and when I hit the traffic calmer/speed bump thingy my left foot slipped off the pedal and got trapped between my front tyre and the inside of my fork. This worked like a meat brake pad and the bike came to a halt about 50 metres down the road. Somehow I didn't crash through it all and I just managed to get off a sit on the grass.

Funny thing is, it didn't hurt for about 30 seconds. I just looked at it and there was no skin on the top of my foot and toes. Around the edge of the affected area was bleeding but the centre was white and blistered. Once the pain set in, I blacked out.

The only thing that has ever come close to that pain was getting methyl ethyl ketone (similar to acetone or nail polish remover) in my eyes. That was a 10 out of 10 on the Not-Fun-O-Meter.

Anything with eyes is a killer. You have pain, fear and loss of control added together. I once watched a guy come within a millimetre (is that how you spell it???) of putting super glue in his eyes. The bottle looked the same as a visene bottle!

I remember being taught in psych that the three most painful things, in order of worst first, was: burns (particularly steam burns), child birth and crepitis (sp....when the ends of broken bones rub together). Although I agree with NCR that pain is subjective. When I do suspensions, I feel very little pain where others black out. But come near my eyes and I run screaming for Mama!

You’re right on the money there. I took a squash ball straight in the eye socket once. It took a good 10minutes before I could get off the ground. I had double vision for a day or two. I ended up at hospital and the doc said I went very close to losing the eye.

I was going to attempt to claim my big acco from about 10 years ago, but I can't really, as I dont remember any of it. Granted it was painful, but I just lost it completely when it happened so in my mind I never felt any pain. Guys who were with me at the time said that I was screaming this unholy scream, but I don't remember a thing.

For those who haven't heard about it.... (I wheel this one out every time there is a "worst accident" thread!

Went over the handle bars at about 60km'hr. Dislocated and shattered both elbows. Came to a stop on my face. I stopped breathing for a few minutes, and when I came to, I started thrashing. Not good when the only thing holding your forearms on is skin and muscle.

All these injuries sound pretty bad, but I reckon I could top it.

When I was younger I lived for two and a half years in Indonesia.

One day, I decided to go for a bicycle ride, nude, as young children do...
I was contently riding along, when out of no where, a tree jumps onto the path and I proceed to ride straight into it. It was a low impact collision, and the uninformed observer would beleive that no damage has resulted, but I tell you, the WAS damage.

A small stick had pierced, wait for it......my SCROTUM!
It went straight through and then ripped the thing in half. So I was in the middle of no where, with a bloodied groin, by myself, at the age of 4.
I decided to walk home, and leave my bike where it was.

However, the worst is yet to come.

I get home, and we arrange to take the next boat to Singapore to receive some quality medical attention, but ALAS! the next boat did not leave for a few days, so the only option was the local INDONESIAN hospital.
If you know Indonesia, you would know that they dont have the best medical system out there.
I was about to receive 12 stitches, right in the scrotum, from some undertrained, understaffed, disease riddled 'hospital'.
The particular doctor I was assigned was not the best , in fact, far from it.

If you think local anaesthetic is bad, wait until you get it in the balls!
Unfortunatly for me, the doctor put it in the wrong place (dont ask me how) and I proceeded to get stitched up without the anaesthetic, which I can tell you now, was not at all pleasant.

Picture this, A strange, uneducated doctor causing imense pain on your balls, with several nurses on either side of you holding your legs open, and you fighting with all your mite to stop these people....it was not one of the better times of my life.

Oh well, at least chick dig scars

Most painful? Hmmmmmm.......
Probably has to be when my pets have died, particularly my last cat and my previous dog. My dog was run over by two cars and died in my arms as we waited at the vets. He was so messed up and must have been in terrible pain, it was actually better that he died i suppose. :( I was shattered for a long time.
When my cat Oscar died that was also very painful, he was with me since school. His liver packed it in and he was in a bad way for days. We called the vet in and had him put down humanely. Even though he would have died anyway, i didn't take it well. I cried a river for that little guy! At least i was with him the whole time and was able to bury my friend as best as i could. Thinking about it is still hard, he was very important to me.
Emotional pain is the worst for me, it takes much longer for it to go away and cannot be masked by pills or the like.
Being tattooed for 6 hours pales in comparison, i can cope with that kind of pain! :D

Fell off a dirt bike - broken collarbone, 1hr drive to hospital with a bag of frozen wedges to keep the pain at bay.

Had 10 litres of super-heated Canola oil spilled down my front at my old job - superficial burns to my arms and 2nd drgree burns to my lower legs/feet, I still have the shoes that largely saved my feet from permanent skin damage.

Wow, nothing so painful as a few of you guys...

But I must say popping my kneecap back into place, from being wedged down the side of my knee, after a major dislocation was a bit sporty. Had to slap it so it would move and my leg would unfold, it popped back and WHOOOSH! Theres the pain.... But then post-op on any of my four knee operations (two reconstructions) would be up there too.
Second most painful was probably the couple of times I've dislocated then popped back in my right shoulder (once I waaaaay overjumped in a set of rhythms and dislocated it as I slammed the next upramp..) hurts a teensy bit...But not much until it goes back in.

Getting hit by a car was quite painful. But, like a big boy i didn't cry :)

Also having my nose broken by a farkin huge maths book (some idiot threw one as a game of 'keepings off' to me while i wasn't looking) whicu hurt like a bitch. The bottom of the spin hit the bridge of my nose, the hardest, toughest part of the book

Getting yaself caught between the seat and backwheel is a bit nasty too, and when you case a jump and hit yourself on the stem...thats just ghastly

Breaking the collarbone 8 or 9 weeks ago hurt a fair bit too (over jumping and landing almost vertically face first)

Without a doubt breaking my tibia and fibula in four places; I had a spiral fracture. Essentially, my leg did a complete 360 when I crashed on a skateboard ramp at 12 years old. When I think about the noise my leg made when it broke, it still sends chills through my spine…it was painful! It’s never a good experience when your leg is just dangling there…

When I was about 14 I was over at a friends's place, playing chasies with his cute sister. Anyway, I was running at full pelt next to a pool fence when my little toe hooked on in the fence and smashed my little toe 180degrees around. Smashed it into about 10 bits, which had to be reassembled by surgery under general anaesthetic. The toe is still longer than the other though, but then again I have pretty frightful looking feet anyway.

The worst bit was nobody believed I'd broken my foot, so I had to walk home 30mins on it!

I had a spiral fracture

When I was in grade 5 i crashed my BMX trying to steer by holding the forks - through the handlebars... When i tried to get my arm out I couldn't - i had to turn the handlebars around twice to free it. I threw up and passed out just after that. Spiral fractures are terrible.

Bitten on the arse by a redback when I was ten - i thought I was gonna die.

Mum just gave me an ice cube (we lived in the sticks back then, a long way from anywhere) and said 'stick that on it'.

hmmm, never forgave her for that.

cheers,

Liver surgery. The surgeon told me that it was going to be "key hole" surgery right. Supposed to be less painful and faster recovery. Anyhow I wake up in intensive care with frigging tubes and s#!t hanging out of me everywhere, I even had a shunt(big ass needle) in my jugular vein. Im there hollering, wondering why im in so much agony when they tell me a peice of equipment stuffed up and they had to open me up the old fashioned way! and that I had a wound from my solarplexis to my right hip ( a bit more than 30cm).
So they are thinking im a big girl for whingeing about the pain, then they realise that the epidural in my spine is in the wrong spot and it was numbing the wrong side of my abdomen! I was there for an hour with zero pain releif and a foot long hole in my side.
Damn sure I wont be going through that again anytime soon. Cool scar though, I just tell the ladies that the scar is from my time as a bullfighter in Spain!

i know exactly how you feel

it took me ages to get over the death of my doggy zipper
she died just as i came back from walking my other dog

having a bandaid on my big toe, at the end of the day my sock had stuck to the bandaid, whipped my sock off and couldnt understand what this sensational pain was from, from the cut on my toe, my bandaid had come of with the sock and pulled a strip of my skin off from center of bottom of toes to the middle of the ball of my foot. EVERY layer of the skin came off.
whats makes it worse was most people need to walk in their normal lives, the pain to walk was excrutiating, sweat made it unbearable and i couldnt ride.
it toom ages to heal because in the morning when it hard partially healed overnight, walking would rip it open again! woopee. BEWARE BANDAIDS ON BIG TOES PEOPLE.

chipping my hip and rupturing my splein (sp?) on the edge of a little skatepark where the soil had eroded away (leaving a jagged concrete edge). gravel rash x10 really really deep.

yes and that spray on bandage hurts much more than it should!

A lot of you blokes have gone through hell, touch wood I never have to expirience some of this stuff.

Most painful expirience for me was back in the skateboarding days, I was skating up to a euro gap with stairs instead of just a gap, and just when I was about to ollie my back foot slipped off, pushing the nose down and leaving the sharp, grinded down tail in the air, for my testicles to land on.

Lucky, no blood. But a purple sack isn't pretty, and walking home was a nightmare.

hmmm. compress fracturing 3 vertebre from landing on my head in a crash and the fact that when i went to get up i couldnt hold the weight of my neck...i instantly thought i could never ride again...thats painful.

Crashing my motorcycle on a tar road also tickled, took a huge chunk out of my inner elbow which makes me look like a fuckin junky now its healed up

Then the other was prob a few days ago when i got the other side of my lip pierced. i already had one side done about 8 months ago and soon as i got to newcastle i noticed that every 2nd kid has it done. so instead of taking it out i decided to get another, since the first one didnt hurt much at all. So i booked in nd then the guy musnt have done many lips coz he had no idea. first up he couldnt get the needle through the last bit of skin, then once that was through he couldnt quite get the stud in. so they have a needle that is hollow at one end which you push through and goes skinny to fit in then u put the stud in the end of it and pull it back through. so yea, stretching the lip. then the idiot put the wrong stud in which was too short. so we had to do that again and even now he has put too short a stud in so in the swelling period there isnt room for it and it just swells around the ends.. (oh yea soon as it was all done he told me about how he's had a few people come back and the skin as grown over the back due to too short a stud, fucking idiot) after all that i was still fine. it hurt a lot but beareable. then to put the other side in we have to stretch the hole thats been in my other side for 8 months. that fucking hurt the worst. i got all dizzy and sweaty while this happened. it doesnt help when the fuckers have no clue and wave these big ugly needles infront of your face either. the first lip piercing was much quicker and less painful..but yea thats prob the 2nd worst pain ever.

I've got a 22mm tunnel in my ear, ppl ask if that hurt...not at all compared to those other things...oh yea, and tatts dont hurt either

Most painful would be my tatts however they can't begin to compare in the uncomfortable stakes.

That prize goes to:

worst pain would be a toss up between getting a tatto and shattering my elbow not once but twice, i shattered my elbow by riding no hands down a hill when i was 15 to school, i did it then went to school with out using my right arm cos it hurt so much, took off my jacket and saw that the sleve was full of blood and the bones sticking out wasnt good then i made it halfway to sick bay and passed out went to hospitall and had it pined in place, then 4 weeks after getting it repaired and rehab i did it again....the tattoo was great experience and the natural high i got afterwards was even better., i got the southern cross on my shoulder blade and now getting my family name on my lower back and wished i had a shorter name than i one i have

(3) Nipple Piercing stretched to 5mm set off an 'endorphin rush' of some proportion.

(2) Any tattooing around your armpit(s) gets the toes curling.

(1) When I was in year 10, a girl broke my heart.

during the holidays, last monday we were at our jumps and there were acouple of us. so we get a brand new jump going and the second time i hit it i wasn;t going straight at it so i turned up the lip, the side of the jump wasnt compacted and i didnt get any air. so i nose cased hardcore into the bak of the landing, went flat on my head, then neck and then back.
i was rushed to sandringham hospital and had acouple of x ray's and ct scan's. so later that night i was transported to the alfred hospital. i was being fed threw a needle into my veins because i couldnt keep anything down which sucked and i also had to lie flat on my back for 2 days straight. i ended up spending three days there and finally i had an M.R.I scan which is what i was waiting for because it was suspected i had cracked verdabreys(spelling?) in my spine. so i got that and stayed one more night, they let me out thursday.
they told me that i had cracked a rib, stretchded ligaments in my neck, fractured something in my spine and done soft tissue damage.
now i am sitting at home resting while i should be on school camp but not allowed to go.
so i am out of riding on flat for 3 weeks while out of extreme riding for 3 months which i am really bummed about.

I've busted a few bones, but the most pain (and yes it was physical) I've ever been in was wheeling my 3 day old son into an operating suite and being told that there is a 1 in 20 chance he would die that day. That was not good. He didn't die but it was 8 hours before I knew that. Puts all other injuries I have had to shame.

My point: pain is a relative measure. If a certain injury is the worst you've suffered, then that's as bad as it gets.

I saw this thread and thought I'd regale all with tales of dislocating my shoulder in the bush after a creek gap gone wrong and struggling out to a road and bravely waiting for an ambulance but Fuck me! I got nothing. You people are hardcore.

All I can say in my defence was that I had to wait for about 7 hours to put it back in 'cause they thought i might have spinal injuries but I had sweet sweet drugs to get me by.

nothing I tells ya. nothin.

Pffft mine are nothing but I shal post them up anyway. When I was 5 I stood on a half broken beer bottle and sliced a few cms into my foot, and a few years back I had to have an operation on the inside of my lip to remove a tumor under local anesthetic only to have the doctor start slicing before it kicked in, then a few days later some douchebag put me in a head lock and ripped all of my stichers clean out.
