I have a 2004 AC2 with Drop offs. They work really well. It munches all the tracks around Oxford Falls and Red hill with no worries. I don't really know the differences between the forks because i haven't had the chance to try them, but on the AC, the drop offs are really stable and they make me go really fast:p

i no of heaps of guys running 180mm forks on there ac's with no problem at all. ive seen some with 200mm and they havnt had problems. so 170 dropoff would be fin e and would make a huge difference to your bike. id say just do it. :D
