OK, i jumped in the sport class at Homebush on the weekend. Was heaps fun but the wierdest thing was I was holeshotting many of my motos.
...Wierd cause I race BMX where I struggle to get anywhere near the front of the pack out the gate.
Youve gotta know that the only way to get good starts is to practice till you never wanna see another gate as long as you live, and getting a coach is real good idea to begin with too. Dont develop a bad technique its really hard to correct later!
Well If you dont want to get thrashed by 11 year olds down the local BMX track every week (take it from me its not a good look haha) take a look at www.bmxtronik.com (http://www.spam.com/) for your own gate to get yourself dialled in.

They would be great I would kill for one, I have a track at home(home home not Sydney home) and it would be perfect practice but as a studnet I just can't afford one but whoever can buy one they will help alot, then tell me when you have one and I'll come over:p

firstly your link sends me to SPAM.com WTF?
anyway, i found something similar, however, in the opposite direction. i came from doing some 4x to bmx, with cleats its not too hard to get a good start. secondly im sure they 4x racers would get wooped hardcore on a proper start compared with bmx'ers, just practise.
but a qn while your there, where can i go to get tips n chat about bmx racing? new to the scene and want information.

studdert,
there's nothing compared to farkin that i've come across in the bmx world :(
closest would be the bmxracing forum on vintagebmx.com , then there's bmxnews.com and bmxmania.com all USA sites but relevant.
bmxultra.com here in aus was thinking about starting a forum but it hasn't happend yet.

Surrey stuffed up the link it is ............ I use one of his gates at home it helps alot. A few of the top pros are now using BMXtronic gates like Jared Graves and Wade Bootes its gotta be good if they are using them

Mate, the link was removed because it is spam. Yes, it is part of the sport and useful to people, but he was posting it as advertising. We have paying advertisers on this site that will be justifiably upset if anyone can come on here and post what ever they wanted to sell like that. Maybe if he was a user/contributer to the site we may cut him some slack, but he hasn't even posted again since. May as well have been randomly generated. Sorry to be a Nazi about it, but I'm sure you can understand that it has to be the case.

well for me,i like to practice by stalling at traffic lights, then when the little green man goes i go,i find that to be helpful, and you can do it close to home.:)

Bit of a difference though trust me not really much like it its the timing not the balance and the power and the span from the gate.

The only thing you need to spend is some time and it basically starts with 3 pedal sprints. Find a clear flat stretch of road or path, driveway whatever stand up on your bike, dont lean back as that makes it easier and then concentrate on getting those first 3 pedal strokes as hard and smooth as possible. I race bmx and thats what we train once a week whilst doing sprints and if you watch most races its a lot easier if you get a good start and then they have to get past you. As you progress add some sprints and as you get closer to a race starting doing them on a downhill to get your spin going.

Yeah, well sorry didnt know I couldnt point people in my direction, but way to go slapping a potential advertiser in the face.
In the Aussie cycling 'industry' its just buy/sell. I'm one of a handful of manufacturers down here at the arse-end of the world, perhaps that deserves some respect?
And perhaps if I put the whole gate start issue more bluntly,
A)I go to any bmx meet and come out the gate dead last every time.
b)I race state 4X meeting and holeshot every race.
Which means 4X riders have HUGE problem, what are they to do about it?
and no, riding on the road at traffic lights is not a solution. The only thing ive seen that works is what Barnsey does; ride bmx and mntnX.

On the contrary, for looking after us by 'slapping non advertisers', he has restored my faith in farkin and i will continue to pay to advertise.
One potential advertiser lost, one or more kept. Just pay for advertising, its a good price.

Yeah, well sorry didnt know I couldnt point people in my direction, Maybe not, but taking half a second to check the site out and use some basic deductions wouldn't have answered that question for you?? but way to go slapping a potential advertiser in the face. What are you talking about "potential advertiser"? You were spamming the forum and I had to act. Do you think that I should have left it there in case you made the logical leap from "Hey, I'm getting free advertising here, I might just start paying for it"? Yeah great idea, I can invite more spammers AND piss off the paying advertisers at the same time
In the Aussie cycling 'industry' its just buy/sell. I'm one of a handful of manufacturers down here at the arse-end of the world, perhaps that deserves some respect? We're one of the largest MTB forums in the world, maybe we're the ones who deserve respect? Maybe the people who've already paid for the privilege of advertising on here trump both our claims of respect. Anyway, you chose your vocation, why should we provide charity because of your choices?
Seems you also neglected this little bit too: Maybe if he was a user/contributer to the site we may cut him some slackApparently you seem to think you can just log on here and do whatever you want because you have a way of making money from Australia's MTB4X community. Pretty selfish and self important don't you think?
Slap in the face? Could have sworn I even appologised for doing it to you! Sorry to be a Nazi about it, but I'm sure you can understand that it has to be the case.Apparently even this is too harsh for you, next time I'll send roses as well if that helps.
And perhaps if I put the whole gate start issue more bluntly,
A)I go to any bmx meet and come out the gate dead last every time.
b)I race state 4X meeting and holeshot every race.
Which means 4X riders have HUGE problem, what are they to do about it?Why is that our problem? Dude, we're an MTB forum, not a social support service for MTBers beaten by BMXers
Feel free to carry on this issue by private message, or keep it here in the public eye if you wish.
