View Full Version : How often should my rear shock be serviced?

I've had about a year of fairly hard riding on my Vanilla RC 2.8 inch stroke shock (8 inch eye to eye travel).
Recently I seem to be bottoming out all the time.
I've swapped the spring from the stock 550lb to a 700lb and cranked the compression damping up to it's maximum setting... but it still bottoms on anything over 3ft!
I'm bit worried it's stuffed - is it time I sent it off for a proffesional service?
I didn't see any recommended service interval in the manual.

That's not so good. My Manitou Swinger 6-way has a recommended full service interval of 200hrs, if that's any help.

Hey mate, i have a dhx 5 and i get serviced once a year. It sounds like you've done a seal and there is only a small amount of nitrogen left in the resovouir ( assuming that it has nitrogen in the resovouir). If thats the case it will definetly need to be serviced so you don't damage anything.

Get it serviced, it will end up being cheaper than new shock!

You will need to take your shock to your LBS and they will send it away to Dirt Works for a full service. You can't send the shock to Dirt Works directly and your LBS won't be able to service the shock as your need special tool and equipment. It should only take about a week.

neezy recomends that you get you shock serviced every year or 200 hours which ever come first but it sounds like you have blown a seal
