boxguide you'll probably need a special bottom bracket tool, so take that to a bike shop.

FOr changing tyres, unless you wanna possibly pop your tube, don't use a screwdriver. go get some 5 dollar tyre levers from a bike shop, deflate the tuberight down, then lodge the lever down under the edge of the tyre and pop it over the edge of the rim. Try googling it for a better description

do you have a crank puller and isis bottom bracket tool?

as you will need these to be able to install the boxguide

edit: answer to above is no.. as you would continue to lose your chain

Uhh, right... care to explain the situation?
Is this so they can have it installed for you tomorrow? If so, that's reasonable in my eyes, urgent work on Saturdays is an absolute pain as you're usually flat out taking care of the rush of customers.

A bb tread doobie whacker? Is that the name, or your sarcasm! :D

Thanks,

$60 bucks to install, thats stupid. especally if you bought the part from them.
the other day i took my frame down to my LBS and my new BB. And in five minutes they wipped the old one out and put the new bb in for nothing. (and i didnt even buy the new parts from them) find a new LBS ASAP

I will keep names anonymous for obvious reasons, but 321, did you get the free 'swapover' from the shop in central geelong, ryrie street or down in south geelong morrabool street. I have mixed opinion son both of these shops

Nop, none actually from the one in north Geelong (first time I have been their in like a year)
But I usually get my stuff from the one in Morrabool street, a lot of the guys are riders and they really known their stuff. But if the sales guy doesn’t seen to known a lot about mountain bikes ask for someone how does, simple.
Also if you are down the coast have alook at trailhead at anglesea, owned and run by MTB riders, a few guys i known drive down just to go to the shop
And a BB tool cost me around 25 bucks from that shop (in Morrabool street)
and $150 is the cheapest bb tool
Deano
I think the sales man is confused with the tool that retaps your bb shell treads? Or a new BB!

Oh, I know the name of the North Geelong shop, it's on the tip of my tongue but cant rememebr it for the life of me.

Yeah, moorable street is great, they all know what they are talking about, and I particualry like dealing with ash becuase he rides DH and does good jobs with the servicing.

Nah, he showed me the tool (Ryrie street shop), it is the proper one, but $150, fuk that! What brand was the one from DeGrandi's?

Cheers

I think at this stage, we can change that to it being made out of solid fuel or oil or something, hahaha.

Stupid Bike Shop Said They Couldnt Fit The Guide Because They Were Stupid And Knew Nuthing

A bottom bracket tool does not cost $150.

What the shop was trying to sell you was a tool to chase your bottom bracket threads, that's why it had handles and stuff on it.

A normal BB tool is just an interface side that fit's into the splines/holes on your BB cup and a 6-sided-wrench-flat for attaching your biggest, ugliest shifter to. These cost a maximum of $50 for top-of-the-line ones.

Seeing as though you don't know how to change a tyre though, I wouldn't be reccomending buying fancy tools and doing your own work just yet, you need a sound knowledge base before you go tearing into these things.

what about the doobie whacker as its so quaintly now known as, being a BB facing tool from park, designed to square up the faces of the BB where the actual BB locks up against on the frame. If these are not square, covered in paint or otherwise rooted, when you tighten down the BB firmly, it causes the BB to bind slightly as its not all square.. Great for crank flips, not so good if you concerned with going foward somewhat efficiently...
