View Full Version : my work in progress near coffs...
hey im new here, kinda just got into dh looks interesting... i mainly ride moto's and have a ...ill call it semi decent bike, but downhill is slowly grabbing my attention. any way i missed coramba as i had to work on sunday (fkn government is ripping me off a long week end on a technicality...) so i thought i'de do somthing constructive on my weekend.
episode 1 :the drain
okaythe pictures dont do justice to how steep this is but its fairly steep and it had a 30cm rut down the hole thing i had to fill in...

^^ you cant really see it but theres 3 berms that make it wind down
http://home.exetel.com.au/z3d/berm%202.jpg
^^ ive gotta make it bigger and shape it more but its a rough cut for now

^^ that bow saw was the best $9 ive ever spent...
as you can see that only represents about 600m of track i have about 1km+ planned for this and the first part is an old track that hasnt been used for few years the rest of the track will have to be cut out of the scrub from scratch... alot of hard work:( but hopfully will pay off not to far out of town shuttle will be easy and some nice terrain
stay tunned for more:D

Lookin' really good, nice flowy track. (Reminds me of the riverbed ride, at Barjarg)
EDIT:
Why does every post about a track have someone say "i hope its legal". Like fair enough, but the more i see people writing this its starting to lose it effectivness. I'm going to make bold statement here, but most people on here have ridden on illegal tracks? Kind of hypocritical. I'm sure you wouldn't ride it if you lived near by, because it might be illegal and all? I'm over these comments. If you dont ride on illegal tracks.. then sure.. go ahead and make that comment, otherwise... get off your high horse.
I'm off my "high horse" now, thinking about it I do ride illegal tracks and therefore can't say shit all about it. Lots of tracks are illegal and few are legal, it all adds up, good and bad.

Looks the goods. I wouldn't give the location of it away.
im guessing that 95% of tracks that are made on state forest land (whole differant issue for national parks) start off this way and only get the aproval when ppl want to hold an event on the track, around coffs there are tons of cut single track for moto's and if ppl wanted to hold an event on it i dont think council would mind as long as coffs harbour is promoted in the proccess.
Nice work, that looks like WICKED fun to ride. Just got a tip for that first pic though - if you want to keep it free of ruts (because it does look very steep even in the pic), I'd highly recommend putting a waterbar in, diagonally across the track, somewhere near the top of it (maybe a foot or so from where you first drop into it) to drain water sideways, away from the track. This will stop water being channeled down the track and help prevent those huge rain ruts you sometimes get. In addition to being more fun to ride, it means you won't have to do as much maintenance in future either!
Good stuff anyway, that does look like heaps of fun. Keep it up!

There's been a number of great first posts lately but this takes the cake. That looks like a great track you are building there, and I recall well just how perfect the soil around Coffs is for building trails on. Make sure you don't make the mistake of making it too smooth though, it's good to leave some awkward sections in your track to slow people down and to spice it up .
Also, that picture that shows where you have cut through a natural rise in the trail - maybe consider using that as a lip that needs you to throw your bike sideways in the air to make the following berm? Those are always heaps of fun ;)

I agree its an awesome track, but if you look at soil samplers posts you might agree with what i am saying. But i dont want to start an arguement.
Cheers
Okay update time!
episode 2: the amputation.
okay so as i said in my first post i had to hack the rest out by hand coz the part in the previous pixs were an over gronw logging trail.
i love a good tight trail, dont really enjoy making them but the end product is prity good youll see in theese pics that the trail isnt really defined mainly coz its been unridden.. (is that a word?) this track is narrow bit windy in some parts the soil is really loamy and keeps the nice downhill flow
