You being serious? He landed it Perfect.

Well that's not quite as funny ;)

Na not terminal velocity but REALLY fast.

(terminal velocity for a skydiver in freefall with no parachute is about 195km/h. you only get to that speed after about five and a half seconds. This guys wuld have had a lower drag coefficient than a skydiver, so he would have had a higher terminal velocity, and it would have taken longer to achieve it )

Yep, old, he didn't 'stick it' in any sense of the word, he lawn-darted in headfirst and had to be dug out. He survived in relatively good shape though.

78meters high or 255feet. Who cares if he landed it. Minnor detail, not like he still wouldn't have to be dug out even if he was on his skis. There's a good article on it in the latest powder hound,it's the page before the middle if you want to read it in the newsagent LOL.

Thats in the latest powderhound mag. Bloody awsome. Pierre has never broken a bone in his life and reckons now that he has the world record he wont do a drop over 50 foot again... dont really blame him.

I wouldn;t mind riding off there, bailing and just do what he did, go headfirst into the snow (and pray it hasn't been packed down :S)
but how did he land on his head? decided itd be the easiest way to land? you'd think a skiier good enough to try that could at least land the right way up?

Da Extreme Free Rider
22-06-2006, 06:18 AM
If he did land it on his skis there is now way he could ski away coz the impact would have made his skis fly off and he would have sunk bout 2 meters into the powder. Go watch some skiing dvd's l gota a guy in 1 of my dvds doing bout a drop only bout 5 m smaller than that 1 he lamds it but his skis fly of and he just sinks.

his gooooooonnnnnneeeeee! how far down in the snow dig they have to dig to pull him back up. haha, thats a pretty awsome effort, the only reason he didnt reach terminal velocity is cause his balls were so big!

I know this is a massive grave dig and likely to be locked, but does anyone know if he intended to land head first or it was an accident?

Sorry to be rude, but think logically about this one..Do you really think someone would throw themselves off a 255 foot cliff on skis to land on their head purposefully? I don't think so..

Roly

^^^^^^^^^hahahahahahahaha

having had my laugh, that is what Jamie Pierre is renowned and stereotyped for - his philiosophy on drops is as follows: "In my view, if you hit a drop and are able to ski away from it, as far as i'm concerned you've landed that drop."
As you can see, its pretty much if you dont hurt yourself and walk (or ski) away from a drop you've pinned it. he also said in a subsequent interview that he thought he landed that insane huck

Personally i think not and that is crap, but he might justve been living up to his reputation... maybe he meant to flip to his un-helmeted head...

Dont they land on their back on purpose when they do massive drops. Like its too much pressure to land on your feet so you break the fall with your back or something like that? Its into like 3m of powder.

drops on skis are exactly like bikes. the optimum drop will allow you to maintain forward momentum to land and keep going. This provides a benchmark - like skiing, we can see when we will lose forward momentum due to gravity and just go down (and reach terminal velocity in this case) and so we know not to do it.
People who choose to forget this important physics theory become huckers and are thus subjective to the laws of motion. they do not choose to land in the regular fashion they do (on their heads) because of this. Examples of this can be seen in the likes of Josh Bender and Jamie Pierre.

Word has it that he started rotating backwards because he let go of his grab too early. If you search Jamie Pierre in other videos on youtube you will see this rotation in other drops :p

Ok, much as i greatly respect this dude for doing a massive huck/drop that I would never consider, and I will say straight up that the bloke has much larger balls than i have or will ever have....but.....

he shits me. badly.

And I'm sorry again but,

1 He doesnt land it. Not dying does not constitute a successful huck/landing in my opinion no matter how big it is ,head first into deep snow isn't a landing.
2. He doesen't wear a helmet. its a personal bugbear but a person who goes so big and doesn't wear his safety gear also shits me. like it or not if the bloke is getting filmed and/or an income from what he's doing he's and example to younger skiers and should be wearing his safety gear
3. The god thing. I'll argue the top two points for ages here but the sanctimonious crap he delivers in his vids shits me. This is a personal opinion only but again, i don't like it. Not really my place to tell him not to do it I guess but its an overall vibe would be the best way I can describe the way I feel.

hope I haven't offended anyone badly. open up if you feel the need. and I do respect the bloke.

man anyone could do that and do what he did successfully, by the looks of the top of those pines in the background theres only about 20 meter (exaggerating) of powder for him to flop into, i'd do it on my bike and feel safe, so long as i had someone to promise to dig me out, haha, and six bottles of liquid confidence named JIM BEAM
