My Girlfriend would probably race if she knew some girls who rode, i'll introduce you at the next meet. She was there today but was in the car most of the time cos she was cold ( i told her to take extra warm clothes...but did she listen? NO!)

It was surprising to see a girl out there- but good too. I used to race DH and a bit of 4X a couple of years ago...have been out of touch since then cause of injury. It seems there's always a lack of chicks riding, especially in 4X. I was on the DH committe for Fatties and we always had a seperate class for Women, but still never got more than 1 or 2 girls involved. Back then though, I think the trouble was that on a 4X track often there is alot that needs to be gapped rather than rolled, and the majority of girls riding DH don't really get into jumping that much, excepting those with a BMX background. This tends to make it a bit more intimidating for the rest of us... Holding races on a BMX track is a great way to make the sport more accessible though, and more appealing to girls.

Just my 2 cents...

Cindie

very true, i myself was quite ready to pike out of the race, after turning up and seeing nothing but boys, boys and men, I was to say the least, intimidated!
fortunatly though, one of the guys gave me a push in the right direction.
The only guy i could keep up with on the track actualy!:p

I myself dj very little so feel very outclassed, which does not help but tis just another form of encouragement.

Rideing an aggressive sport such as this will not draw females so easy, im just nuts or stupid, not sure which yet.

But on the positive Ive been around at a few bmx clubs chating to various female bmx riders who seem to be intrested in giving it a go, so hopefully next race theryl be some more faces!:D even if they will totaly destroy me out there, itd be awesome just to see more chicks out ther making an appearance!

After coming to have a look on Sunday I'd probably seriously consider getting back into riding again, especially if there's anoth race at a BMX track...I did't realise until I came to watch just how much I miss riding, especially the DH part!

i agree on the female attendance, im trying to convince the gf that mountain biking is a fun sport, racing however is a little while off.

Just a qn, i went to race bmx because 4x can be too expensive, too far away from home and not frequent enough (living as a full time student). I know that sydney is the only place that has a proper club round of 4x or mtn-x. What my real quiery is how much did it cost to race and were the bmx club happy to have you there? Were there many insurance bungles and hurdles that had to be jumped or was it fairly simple?

I'm thinking that the bmx track i race at is a little smooth and fresh out of "b" lines in the corners, however it would give alot of people the chance to get out and give 4x a go, before they traveled to say robbie's track at blackhill and were put off this style of racing. I love the blackhill track and think they boys at drift have helped 4x as a sport in newcastle tremendously, but we need the numbers to get more recognition and support.

any one with info?

well im not overly sure on th details, but various races are schedualed all at bmx tracks so i cant see them being to unhappyabout us being there? Was talking to the commitee of eastfield the other night, they dont seem unhappy at all, but they were trying to convert em to cruiser class at the same time so you never know.

was $15 to race plus license if you needed that.

If youd like mmore info i sugest you email SMBP they organsied the lot along with the park orchards bmx club so theyd know the nity grity stuff.

thanks roxy.

thats pretty good, usually a round, ie state round or cub at blackhill is around the $30-$50 mark, but i know homebush is alot cheaper which is nice.

it not a matter of the bmx is happy to have you there! the club needs to get something out of it too, it not all about the mtb club and sponsors.
P.O bmx club was happy enough just to make money just out of the canteen. the entry fees did not go toward the club.
but more to the point, mtb clubs cant just hold races where ever they want. an agreement needs to be made between the 2 clubs.

In this case it made things easier that Adam from smbp was and ex Park orchards bmx club dad so we all got along!

ehhh you would be suprised...

some 5 mega pixel kodak easy share kinda thing...VERY BASIC
256mb card in it and very little battery power

in the end i managed and i delete all the boring pictures until the card is full of good ones

this is the problem with digital cameras is you point and shoot...nobody thinks about the picture at all they just click because its simple and easy

just gotta take care with any ordinary camera and you get good shots

woulda been nice if roxy kept the originals so i could edit them

Hemm 4x. . . interesting. I wondering if you can do 4x on a DH rig. I have a pretty entry level MTB, Spec hardrock pro, and building up a Stab. So does anybody do that sortta stuff on a dullie?
And its a bonus i live near a few bmx tracks.

You can ride 4x/BMX tracks on a dh bike... Although they are pretty useless for it and are much harder work than a hardtail.. Its depends on what you want to do. If you want to race seriously you wont have a chance. But if your just in it for fun then for sure you can ride a dh bike on these sorts of tracks.
