Posting this for a member who requested it via PM, This was originally written for a car club forum so don't mind the example pictures and yes it's all my photography.

Putting borders on your images

First of all you'll need Photoshop running and an image open and ready to be treated...

The first step is to find the 'Canvas Size' tool located in the 'Image' menu...

This will bring up the Canvas Size dialogue box with a few options and parameters that you can set and adjust...

This is where is gets a bit technical and it might take the first-timer a few goes to get it right - the main thing you need to remember when creating a border on an image is what gets added to the width needs to be added to the height, Go by this rule of thumb and you'll be sweet. :) The Canvas Extension Colour is your way of changing the sections of the border - use it to vary the colour of the border because let's face it; a straight black border looks very boring so alter the colour to break it up. :)

For Example: The image I used in this was 800 x 533 to start with, I increased the first section by 10 pixels so I increased 800 to 810 and 533 to 543. You can repeat this process as many times as you like and you can vary the amount of pixels you increase the canvas size by, it's all basic Math. Experiment with it and see what you come up with and if you like what you see then you're onto a winner. :)
