The movie isn't released until April 2007 but from the early indications it will be big. The link has a short teaser trailer which sets a good vibe for the film.
I can't wait for this one.......:D
Here's hoping the CG is realistic enough to justify such a movie. There's alot of potential, and I'm hoping it comes through with the goods :)

Being the internet nerd that i am i've known about this for a while. There is a CG test of a car transforming next to a guy and a few animations done by fans which look unbelivable. I'll try to track them down.
here's (http://youtube.com/watch?v=T5175Y06_Lk) some (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Hs2Q-KaeICQ) vids, I think Brett meant this one (http://youtube.com/watch?v=PRbHwukwSvA)
but then they get funky (http://youtube.com/watch?v=_gW0goeLkC4)
and more funky (http://youtube.com/watch?v=IL5c2DUnYno)
ahaha, not so funky (http://youtube.com/watch?v=UoCqThjYb4M)

I do concur with your second statement however, I can imagine a second trip to the cinemas may well be in order to get the most out of this film.

The plane in the trailers is Starscream isnt it? Not Megatron.. also Megatron took shape of a tank in a few episodes of the series aswell as a handheld gun...
Oh....in that case I hope it is more like Bad Boys 1 - number 2 was CRAP.
WHHHAAAAAATTTTT!!
Yeah the plane in the trailer is Starscream but Megatron in the film is some kinda jet thing as well. Yeah he was a tank in one incarnation but that just a gun on wheels really.....Ive accepted the fact that they have changed the robots into something else its just the Michael Bay factor that worries me, he makes terrible terrible films.
PINT of Stella, mate!
19-06-2007, 02:23 PM
Megatron's definitely a jet in this one, also Bumblebee's now a chevy camaro.
Optimus Prime's got the same guy doing his voice from the old cartoon series.

Keep in mind that the transformers take on a new form when they are on earth, so really they can be whatever the hell the producer wants. The fact the megatron isnt a gun is probably a good thing considering a human could hold him in gun form then when he transforms hes an 8m tall robot
I cant wait for it. Should be good.
RCOH, that theme song you posted isnt the original generation 1 theme song, I believe that one come into affect after the original movie :p

The good guys (Decepticons that is ;))
Megatron - he looks like a really hotted up plane with some cool weaponry.
Barricade - He is the bot acting as a Police car, a Mustang in fact!
Starscream - an F22 Raptor jet. He is the coolest bot ever.
Blackout - he is a military helicopter that uses his blades to slice and dice.
The bad guys (Autobots........the day will come when the Decepticons will conquer them......:D)
Optimus Prime - He is a bonnetted Peterbilt truck. I would like Prime if he was a Kenworth.........enough said!
Bumble Bee - This time around he is a Camaro car. The old softy of the bunch......
Jazz - a Pontiac car with a cool colour!
Ironhide - the hardass is a GMC ute.
Their you go, Dozer's synopsis.;)

What was the name of Megatron's sidekick, the one who could change into a ghettoblaster - he also came with a mini-decepticon that could change from a tape into a weird bird like thing? Was it soundwave? What was the tape called? Why on earth aren't they including such genius in the movie? :p

Wiki says yes...

In all Transformer continuities, the Autobots are the "good guys," "Heroic Autobots" fighting the "Evil Decepticons", who are the antagonists of the various series.

Racking my brain on the little cassette tape one... was it laserbeak?
I wonder if it have the one that was a Datsun 280zx - the ultimate big-moustached-coke-dealer-car. By the way there's a great youtube of steve jobs (or is it wozniak) in a 280zx.

Soundwave, yep.
He carried 4 cassette tape transformers (early disc stacker?), at least in the movie - the bird was Laserbeak. There was an even weirder looking one called RatBat. The other two were humanoid robots, with arms that turned into piledrivers.
On a side note, I'm sure Blaster (the Autobot ghettoblaster) was voiced by a black dude, and then there was RC, the pink female Autobot.
Token black guy + token female.

Most of the vehicles are GM so i hope it doesn't turn into an ad for them. The vehicles are different as they wanted the size of the transformed characters to be imposing and as they were sticking to realism. There just wasn't enough mass in a VW beetle or whatever the hell kind of truck optimus was for them to be big enough transformed.
The CG is amazing, just look at the weight transferring onto the feet when one of them climbs out of the swimming pool in the trailer ... awesome !

Metroplex...? (Google...) yep.
I don't know why I remember these things - besides, sounds like somewhere that sells girls' jeans to boys.
I have Kup, a beaten up Sharkticon, used to have Prime but sold him in a garage sale - stupid stupid stupid.
Had Blurr and Wreck-Garr (motorbike, junk planet) at some stage, might be around here somewhere. A few others too, but they don't rate a mention.

anyone know if they're making toys of the new movie? I'd be madkeen on a starscream or Barricade.
I know there were megatron toys recently that morphed into guns and were banned from getting into the country
There are indeed movie toys out, you can pick them up from any of the department stores. So far I've picked up leader class Prime, Ironhide, Blackout, Barricade and Bonecrusher. Waiting for the updated 2008 Concept Camaro Bumblebee to come out. :)
The megatron that was siezed by customs is called "Masterpiece Megatron" He's awesome too, I have mine on my TV next to Masterpiece Starscream and 20th Anniversary Prime. Google that ;)
The movie was great, and for those of you guys wanting to pick up toys, Hasbro will be doing some of the Movie transformers with generation 1 colourscemes. I'm really looking forward to Jazz :)

I went and saw it, I sat down and watched the screen for about 10 seconds... And the first words were something like 'We must fight for the cube' I pretty much said 'Ahh crap that was 10 bucks wasted, I came to watcha movie about a cube'
Turns out it was a good movie, I reccomend for everyone to see it, I was in aww (sp) with the special effects. I was thinking about how the hell they can do that rather than the movie itself.

Your opinion is based on an incorrect assumption; there can never be too much robot fighting in a movie. Even if it's a movie that's not about robots directly, there should always be at least 1 fight between 10 storey tall mechanical behemoths.

Naw thats not a real problem, what confused me was that Optimus Prime is the same size as Megatron, and Jazz is only a tiny bit smaller than Optimus yet when Jazz fights Megatron, hes fucking miniscule in comparison and ends up being ripped in half.

Starscream is the king.............;)
Spoiler alert! Don't read the white text if you don't want to know what happens!
During the credits they showed the parents talking about the government. After that they showed a short snippet of Starscream retreating. That was very significant in my opinion as it sets up a good story for a sequel. Also, Optimus Prime sends out the call for all other Autobots to come to earth, that is more evidence that a sequel may be in the pipeline.
I only recently realised that Hugo Weaving is the voice of Megatron.........

Yeah I noticed that two last night, in my second viewing of the film. I think wiki'd it and found out some information about the sequel. Both Shia and Megan Fox have both signed up to do it already, there's some kinks with some of the other actors though.
Also, they might be introducing some sort of aircraft carrier tranaformer in the sequel, something that the budget couldn't allow for the first.
Suprez

Aircraft carrier is called Tidal Wave and as far as I know appeared in the Transformers Armada series (2003-2004?). Naturally he is a Decepticon and also appears in the Transformers game released a couple of years ago on PS2 as one of the bosses (also based on the Armada series).
I have no doubt that there will be a second movie, which should be great! Bring on Grimlock :p

$150 mill is all it cost to made Transformers. The last pirates cost like $300 mill and IMO its not even half as good as Transformers. Kudos for using relatively unknown actors but man John Turrito was a great choice.

[Meh, I'm going to get flamed for this]
I hated it. Ever single minute. I spent the first half an hour wondering how people could have enjoyed it, and the rest of the time wishing I had some nerve gas handy. The plot was....absent, instead they replaced it with explosions. Don't get me wrong I enjoy explosions as much as the next guy, but if I wanted to watch explosions I would get the DVD out and fast forward the "attempts" at dialog.
It was almost saved by the really hot brunette girl, but then she opened her mouth and attempted to string some words together, it wasn't pretty. As for the blond girl, what was the point of her existence?
The jokes were so lame I felt like stapling my ears closed. A couple of times I did manage to laugh, but it was at them, not with them.
If this and Pirates of the Caribbean is the way Hollywood is going then I'm done with it. Where is the depth? Where is the creativity? Where is the....something other than computer generated special effects?
Its got nothing. I want my two hours back.
[Just my opinion, clearly I'm in the minority]

Fair enough mate, no one will give you curry about your opinion of it. Any feedback is good eh! I had a chuckle to myself when you questioned the creativity though.....;)
From my point of view, the movie means so much because I've adored the Transformers brand since I was a little tacker. I was sceptical about the movie and perhaps a little one eyed but I am so glad the movie was made successfully and I loved it. Long live Transformers!

i've watched the original cartoon series many a time and i loved that it was still fairly true to it with the corny one liners, basic plot line, characters were still as they should be to some degree, ie optimus being a big pussy and megatron being a real angry dude, ie ripping autobots in half. i loved it. too much focus on the humans though.

there was the small starscream joke but yeah. it would of been better if there was more scenes with the deceptacons apart from them just wiping shit out. i was impressed to see megatron turn into the gun and blast optimus and really blast him as well. if that didn't happen i would of been cut.

Hehe, I'm looking through the toys gallery trying to find the first transformer I ever got (I actually got it 18 years before this last movie was released, to the day!). I'm struggling to find him though, so I'm hoping one of you nutters can help me out.
I'm going from memory here because I'm up in Byron and can't check it out, but here's what I remember:
He's a dark blue coupe, but almost looks like a ute at the back.
His underside is fluro orange (and becomes his chest when he transforms).
I *think* he's the one that has two heads, that flip aorund, one decepticon and one autobot, so I think he's a decepticon spy.
And I think there's also an autobot badge on his chest that is heat sensitive, and changes to a decepticon one when you hold your finger over it.
Does anybody know who I''m talking about?

Now that I've seen it, I can comment with some authority...
I went in with VERY low expectations. I hate overused and badly done CGI and bullshit movie physics, so this makes 90% of action movies for me to be pretty much unwatchable. However, I'll make an exception for The Transformers Movie. The CGI was probably the best I've seen yet. While some of it looked fake, most scenes it worked excellently well in, particuarly the reflections of the Autobots/Deceptecons shinier bits. The story for the most part was good, although the Blonde Aussie chick playing the computer nerd could have been cut out completely and replaced by someone who actually looked like a computer nerd and the Brunette girl had too many un-necessary scenes.
And of course, there was always going to be bullshit movie physics and plenty of the technical errors that I love to pick holes in .It makes me feel better about being poor and stupid if I know something that the movie makers don't! Or maybe, like spelling mistakes deliberately placed into fancy restaurant menus, it's done on purpose to give the customer a sense of superiority!
The thing that I really didn't like about it was the annoying and intrusive product placement, but I guess that is a fact of life in modern movies. Still, they could be much more subtle about it.
Anyway. It was a fun movie to watch. I'm not sure I would have seen it unless the missus wanted to, but I'm glad I went. Not bad at all, especially for that sort of movie.

After going to that link, Wombat, I then linked to the 'Transformers' Wikipedia page, where I found the following article & another reason why I love Japan:
Transformers: Kiss Players (2006)
(translated from the Japanese Wikipedia article)
Transformers: Kiss Players was a Japan-only line of Transformers toys, manga, and audio dramas released in 2006. Kiss Players is set in an alternate Transformers universe where the Transformers are powered by the kisses of young girls. The toys themselves come packaged with small, scale figurines of the girls who power them. The toyline was openly admitted to be aimed at a specific part of the market - slightly perverted adults, rather than children. The comic that accompanied the Kiss Players is an unashamed reflection of this, with several images which are, frankly speaking, borderline pornographic.
It is, however, not impossible to see it as a valid vision on Transformers; especially in Japanese series (Godmasters and Car Robots are good examples), the metaphysical power potential of human beings empowering Transformers is a recurring theme.

F*** me! I can honestly say that Transformers is awesome. fair enough it managed to have a lot of the worst aspects of a Modern Blockbuster (hard rock music suddenly firing up out of nowhere because there's a car chase. Hideously overdone product placement. Black urban cliches, excessive slow motion etc) yet it managed to pull it off and become a serious assault on the senses that actually came with some brilliant performances and some good writing. The kid Shia Le Boueff is pretty much a young John Cusack and he's mostly responsible for it turning into another lame arse Michael Bay 'event'.
The Autobots looked amazing although Jazz looked like he'd be a pain in the arse with his urban hip-hop token black autobot schtick. good job he gets ripped in half after only one line of dialogue. Optimus Prime was the shit (despite the flames). A classic heroic leader. Unfortunately the others didn't get much in the way of dialogue or even screen presence. It was definitely more of a 'human' movie.
The Decepticons were menacing but there was really no way of telling them apart when they were in their robot mode. Not much in the way of dialogue from them either but they made up for it by smashing the absolute shit out of everything in their path - bit like myself on a whisky and red wine binge...
At the end of the day I haven't felt that thrilled by a movie since I was a kid (although 28 weeks later came pretty close.) Yeah, it was f***ing cheesy in parts but could have been so much worse. The only problem is now I keep staring at other cars when we're driving and imagining them suddenly sprouting arms and legs and punching on...

Megatron has come back from bigger falls than that one.............Starscream will never take control of the Decepticons (although he is my favorite bot).
I like to think that some of the military machines used in the movie were shown for prolonged sequences because they will be pivotal in the second film. For those that know what Transformers did what in the old series they'll know the one's I'm thinking of.;)

just as good second time round. I think Megatron's gone for good isn't he? i don't think they'd recover him from that pit.

If my sketchy memory serves me correct dun the Decepticons have an underwater base somewhere? Might be the next plot device.

:p The USS Kitty Hawk aircraft carrier is being decommissioned next year, so I'm guessing it will reappear in the USN fleet as the decepticon 'Tidal Wave'. Astrotrain will come to Earth with Soundwave, Shockwave, Skywarp, Thundercracker and crew on board to resurrect Megatron. Another battle on Earth erupts...
As for the third movie, it'll be much along the lines of the original cartoon movie. Unicron will be menacing the Universe and everyone will unite to woop his ugly ass, while in the meantime Starscream trys to undermine Megatron. Galvatron will kick Starscream to another universe etc. etc.
Arcee will be back and hotter than ever too :p
And here I am mocking Star Wars geeks when they rattle on with their crap :o

He bought it off a car salesman, what do you expect?
My predictions for the next transformers movie, Tidal Wave and Thrust will rock up, and it will be a race for all the minicons, but they wont introduce many more charcaters because most of the viewers dont care about the plot, Starscream will get progressively more angry at Megatron (movie number three). And they will mix in a bit of history about Unicron for the third movie.
I didn't watch it much as a kid, so im probably off, but when do comics turned movies follow their intended plot?

Just saw it, wish I hadn't.
What a load of formulaic, cliche'd American bullshit!
Yeah, sure, the effects and fight scenes were cool, but so what? Just make me a goddamned video clip to a song if that's all you've got! Nerdy dude has the key and saves the world with his bravery. Jesus Christ! That's the laziest load of simple minded tried and true play it again Sam Holywood recycled piss you could ever pull out of a first year creative writing class for "special" kids!!
You've even got the sexy chick who leaves the wanker boyfriend and teams up with the dork. It's also got the arsehole cop, the heroic special forces soldier (they're always so good looking in these movies, oh yeah, and that guy was the direct rip off the main character in Aliens 2), the hard arse Secretary of Defence and the mysterious Cancer Man type character who is "above top secret". My god, that film has got more cliche's in it than Independence Day dubbed in French.
I liked the robots and so on, but they could have just given us 30 minutes of that stuff to a hard rock sound track and left all the other crap out. Seriously, that was a lame attempt to what could have been a hell movie.
I fear coming back to this thread.......:o

Yeah, maybe you're right. I sometimes have to remember that just because I've said it a million times doesn't mean that the newer/younger members are aware of the basic standards. Not bloody hard to work out though..., grumble grumble grumble.....
Back OT, whilst I do bag the movie, I will still watch it again. Half of me wants to see the good scenes again and the other half desparately wants to enjoy it. There should be some kind of law that the crappy directors aren't allowed to take on projects that have potential to be a killer flick! One day when I run the world.......

I've seen the movie twice now. First time I saw it I think I was blown away by the special effects etc to see how lame the plot and dialogue actually was (I did however notice the massive amounts of product placement).
Before seeing it the second time I had read this thread. This tainted it somewhat, but it also put a whole new spin on the movie. I took time take notice of all the negatives which alot of other farkiners have drawn from the movie and I must say that there was......well, a fark load of them. I give it a 10/10 for the visuals but about a 2/10 for the script/plot/dialogue.
Will be seeing it again though.

Really, his works are crime against humanity.
Why do I get this feeling that the Far Cry movie they are shooting now will be just another Resident Evil. Can't they leave game themes in peace?!
Speaking of games. Transformer - the PC game, is great if you have the logics and reflects of a young child. Other than hours of fun switching them instantly between robots and character-based weapons, the game itself felt like it was rush job (or simply low budget) which lacked a lot of modern day video game elements such as A.I, fluid handling/gameplay, and common sense in the missions.
Blackout is my favourite. Cool and cruel.

wholey shit the game is rat shit for would it could of been, huge letdown. Mo multiplayer, couldn't of been THAT hard to make it so you could belt each other at least. Also I found heaaappppsss of glitches on my Wii and its just frustrating. Still fun dropkicking tanks and cars though. Its also so weird that the bottom of buildings blow up but never the top halves. Very very very very basic game.

Hey, I'm no kid and I felt like punching the screen to liven things up a bit!
Megatron: Quick, hide or his mum and dad will see us and we'll be busted!
Some other dumb arse piece of mechanical crap: Yeah, can't let mum and dad see us...., but we'll just rip the roof of this car full of armed government agents!
This movie was made for the 8-15 year old market.
What makes that fact even more painful is that there are plenty of movies (think Pixar) aimed at a younger market that can still hold an adult sense of humour in the background and not dumb down things too much.
The family scenes ruined it alone, I can't believe how long some of them dragged on for... c'mon, robots could've been destroying things in that time!

Get your facts right, Beast Wars was another spin off of the transformers franchise, not a rip off. You'll find a ton of different transformers cartoons and hence storylines including generation 1 (the original and the one we have all come to love although many members on this forum would be too young to remember), beast wars, armada, energon, cybertron.... the list goes on.
Personally I was never really a fan of Beast Wars, but I can tell you it's probably the second most popular transformers story line after generation 1.
