hope you find it sam...

extra info (if it helps):
-one guy was tall and lanky, white polo hat on
-there was either 2 or 3 of them
-the coil on the rear shock is red, quite obvious
-these guys were last seen on parramatta road (we think)

this is very annoying, as sam and I were going to go lithgow, etc, tomorrow

Did they made physical contact? That constitute as assault AFAIK.

Also the track is under surveillance, check with the Olympic Park security.

Hope you get you bike back. :(

yeah they through him off the bike and stole my bag.
it had my phone and wallet in it but it also had sams wallet and phone in it.
I am not soo pissed about my stuff but what i do care about is people that are bigger then us like we are 14 we're basically defenseless to people who are 18 years old.
We have been down to the cops this arvo and sam and i made our statements and they said they will keep an eye out for the stuff.
Good luck wiht getting the bike back sam i will be keeping my eye out.
It was good to see that the rangers were so helpful one of them staying with us until the cops came. I hope they have got the people that stole the bike on surveillance.
It is really weird because these guys were riding at the track earlier about 15 of them all on bmx's and one or two guys on a mountain bike. One of them asked me for an Allen Key so i went and tightened his crank for him as people have done for me in the past when i need a tool. And so what do they do taked my park tool set that was in my bag and my whole bag.
It was the same guy that asked for the allen key that came back without a bike and approached sam from behind and threw him to the ground i hope they have that on surveillance. Fingers crossed with getting the bike back.

No, that is "battery" (normally part of "assault and battery". Assault is the threat of violence, and Battery is where you actually carry through and physically attack someone.

the guy that was there at the start and was the one that took the biek was riding a GT bike im nto sure what kind it was but it wasn't to flash just a recreational one i think it had disc brakes and stuff.
i think they might have taken the biek to keep so hopefully they go back to the 4X track and someone catches them., the rangers said they will keep there eyes out and be checking the track regularly so hopefully they find the guys.

it happened at 12:30 today (3rd July).
it's a bad experience that we all were faced with today and i'm not too sure if i want to go back to the track unless it is for a race.
The bad thing about it is that we did nothing to these guys they saw something they wanted and so they took it. i hope they get caught and then have to go to court and make their statement why they attacked sam and stole his bike.

Try to think on the good side, they didnt seriously hurt you or kill you. You can always get a new bike oneday, but if they beat the living shit out of you it would of been quite a bit worse than just a stolen bike.

It happened at about 12:30, we were literally just about to leave for maccas in the next ten seconds before it happened, and yes i suspect it was battery because they pushed me and i now have a small graze on my arm and bruise on my thigh but it didnt hurt i was just a bit shaken. Does anybody know if they have security cameras at the very top of the track on the concrete bit?
because that was were it was.
Been a preety bad day, wallet with money and keys in it, phone with $50 credit and my bike gone.:(

Theres a camera in the parking area.. if they rode through the parking area then it would be on camera.. I heard that the camera is one of those 360degrees cameras, but not 100% sure, just rumour. What direction did they leave in?

Balfa_Oli
03-07-2006, 08:20 PM
i sent an email off to the guy at wsmtb to see if they do have that concrete area on video survaillance. we didn't see them but are pretty sure they headed out through the carpark and out onto hill road and off onto parramatta.
When the cop guy came he sed he had seen some people travelling down parramatta road but he didn't ask them anything he just came and met with us. after getting a description of the bike he went and had another search of the area but couldn't see them.
I hope the bike turns up even if it is on ebay or something then we can tell them the person thats selling it.
So hopefully the guys will go back to the track one time when there is a race on there.
Fingers crossed they got it on video camera but will wait and see if they do have video camera's filming that top area.

I have this included on my home contents insurance with NRMA, my contents cost me around $40/month. You have to nominate them as separate items. It takes a bit of research but it is no differant than insuring an expensive watch or jewelery.

What about the security footage? I'd love to hear if anything got recorded. Surely the Olympic Park Authority should be able to track the kids as they were leaving with their bikes? If they can track em, they might be able to get a close up of the punk who stole the bike.

Damn shame, its such a cool venue, doesn’t need stuff like this happening to blacken its rep.

Ps.. Sorry about the loss of your bike, its an act of bastardry.

You gota keep onto them about the camera footage. You’re dealing with both the parking people and the police. Keep hitting both of them up cos you can bet your ass the cops will say it’s the parking dudes issue and the parking people will say it’s the cops.

I parked illegally there and they were onto me in 15mins. Now some kids gets rolled for their bikes they beta help out.

If they dont, then keep farkin in the loop. Its in all our interests that this sort of thing gets sorted out.

You can get in contact with the MTBA and they may be able to email you a notice stating that you are a fully paid up member. This happened to me and all was well. Most of the clubs also have a database that checks whether you are a finacial member or not.

Good Luck this weekend

Well at least you know the local rangers were helping out as my mate was confronted by a ranger at monster asking if he had seen them he asked around the venue for a bit then left so hopefully they contine to search. Yeh there is a camera on one of the light poles on the track and another in the parking lot so you would think the camera would have seen something. Good luck again hope you find it:)

the camera moves so it films the bottom and the top of the track at different times.
but these guys were riding at teh track earlier and then came back an hour or so later and did it.
he is not sure if it is on camera or anything yet as his computer isn't working. but fingers crossed they got a shot of his face or something on there.

Keep annoying them mate. I mean, really really bugging them!

When they realise the problem isn't just going to go away (computer not working??!?), you will get what you need. Possibly a good idea to get a parent or 2 involved as well, they tend to add a lot more weight to an issue.

Within the next 24 to 48 hours, any footage they may (or may not) have will probably be gone forever. :(

Get onto it quickly, and you might just get your gear back.

That’s such a lame excuse. I work in IT and even I tell people to say that if someone cant be assed or some "person" has made a stuff up.

These camera's will be on loop. they need to archive that day of footage so its not overwritten. You have to spell it out for them. That footage is all you have, that’s why its there, it should be used!!

Send me a PM if you want me to help out, I live really close to the 4x and it may be more convincing coming from someone who isn’t 14.

I even lent them an allan key because they asked for it but that was earlier.
i hope they have a glimpse of him on a video camera cause he was riding there in the morning but we'll wait and see what happens.
I can't believe that people actually do this just because they can't afford something they see some one smaller wiht something they want so they go and steal it.
I hope they get found and hopefully it'll teach them a lesson.

Just had a chat to the Guys at SOP Security and they seem to be treating it pretty seriously. They are having computer issues but they have someone booked in to come and look at it tomorrow. They keep about 6 months of footage and are pretty confident that they will have some kind of footage of them. With any luck it will be the actual event but at the very least of them leaving the area.

Keep onto them and give them a call again at about lunch time Thursday. That’s when the SOP guy who is looking after it will be in and the PC, that runs the security review thing, should be fixed.

Hey man,

it sucks about your bike.
How much is it worth?
I ask this as i had one of my bikes stolen from uni about 2 years back. I was able to claim insurance on it under home insurance. Apparently anything under $1000 dollars, they don't really look into it. They didn't ask for receipts or proof that it was stolen from home or anything like that.
So it actually worked out better for me as i got back the retail amount of money and bought me a new and better bike.

Look into to it,

Cheers Rob

hey guys,
i was looking at this thread this arvo: http://forums.farkin.net/showthread.php?t=52537
And i was talking to Sam's dad this arvo and we both thought that these guys that came up to the guy in this thread sounded a lot like the guys who stole sam's bike.
If you guys have anything that is anything at all.
2 or 3 guys 1 quite lanky white polo hat and stuff in the area of Maquarie, Homebush any where aroudn that area.
If you have seen these guys or if you ride in the area a bit and one day you seem to catch a glimpse of the guys or iof they even come up to you please report it to Auburn Police station.
We need anyone, anyone at all who has seen these guys talked to them whatever to report it to the Auburn police A.S.A.P
because we don't want this guy to try it to someone else.
The policeman who is in charge of our case is away until August and we were told nothing can happen until he gets back.
We have decided that we don't want this case to just drop down we want them to keep realizing and go "well maybe we do haver a case".
As i said earlier anyone who sees them report them to Auburn Police A.S.A.P
and ask for Daniel Piserchia Highway Patrol his number is 9646 8699.
The event number is E27249659.
We need as much evidence as possible and stop this biek stealing going on in the area.
If you are in the area and you see something suspicious report it to Sydney Olympic Park Security there number is 9714 7700.
If you ride in the area you might even liek to add these numbers to your phone.
Thanks Alot,
Oli

Try looking around at some of the local pawn stores. Also, have you got the serial number of the bike? go back to the store in which you bought it from and get it and then ask them to register it into there computer so if that anyone tries to sell it to a bike store it should ocme up on there computer as a stolen bike.

Security really couldnt do too much, nor does he have the authority to. He gave us the police assistance number, but becuase it was 'here say' he really couldn't do anything. He basically said the police have to deal with it, we tryed to call but couldn't get through on the assistance line. I asked about the camera/video but he(security) told me that was on the polices side of things - ie camera not good enough quality?

They were there at around 5pm, darkish blue older commodore(before vn/vp - vc??) and a dark green, not current model excel. Also a blue civic seden was nearby the road/carpark entry, not sure if they were linked or not, but they left at a similar time - as the security had a quick chat to the person. Hope this stuff helps.

At least we all agree on the fact: Bike thieves suck. You could pretty much quote everyones comments in a thread such as this, But I ride out at homebush4x a bit and I dont want this shit in my backyard either or anywhere for that matter, If we are ever out there and see your "lads" they shall be pinned down with my front rim and police will be called. Sammy GL dude! You may want to check out any Homebush4X pics in here, maybe they are in a background shot somewhere? you never know.
Unfortunately you cant leave your bags unattended anywhere at homebush, everytime we have set up camp there away from people they always seem to come close and hang near your stuff, just be careful at any track. I will be interested to see how this pans out with the plate numbers. Nice work getting them. GoodLuck Dude!

Now I dunno if its because of this event or not, but today Me and 3 of my mates got kicked out of Homebush 4x track by security today because "we look dangerous". we are all in our late 20's and we ride there quite often, if we were there the day sammy had his bike taken we certainly would NOT have let it happen, in fact I have no problem giving a bit of protection to a young fella who has two older assholes threatening them. I wouldnt want to loose my bike in that way.
But what is the price we have to pay in society because of a few assholes?
The Security guy that came up to us and said we couldnt sit where we were sitting cause we are on the track, where we were sitting was on the grassy flat on top of the first big berm, which is bullshit because Ive been to numerous 4x events there and Spectators sit there all the time! then he accused us of smoking dope!! just because two of ma scottish mates smoke rolleys! you roll a cigarette and they think your doing drugs without even knowing the truth. he only had to ask to smell it and he would have seen it was not dope but a damn Cigarette!
None of the parents there were asked to leave, in fact the woman who was standing near us wasnt even told to move.
Like most security, they are never around when you need them and when you dont need them they are like shit on a bears fur - everywhere.
I would prefer my local to be free from these power tripping losers, so go find Sammys bike and stop harrasing innocent people!

This guys bike has been stolen and you worry about people seeing messages from everyone who wants to beat the shit out of the bastards.

Danielmcb,

Obvioulsy you have never had to go through this type of situation yourself. I feel for Sam very much and I wish there was a lot more that I could do to help. I am a very active member of the Australian Mountain Bike movement and have been for many years and I feel disheartened that this has happened to one of our members. I have also lived in that area and I know the type of poeple that sam is dealing with. I spent 4 days in a coma after being king hit with a baseball bat. I also know that the authorities after incidents in sydney over the past 12 months are watching everyone. If you want to beat the shit out of someone take it to a boxing gym. All I did to get hit was turn my head and look. The meaning of my statement and most people would have understood it was to stop anyone getting hurt for no reason. I know the system is slow and the chances of finding sam's bike is slim but it is much better than ending up in hospital as I did.

Thats all I have to say.

Good Luck Sam I hope you get your bike back and these guys get caught.

that sucks so bad man sorry to hear it. i have never had a bike stolen but i could imagen how bad it would be, especially if youve worked so hard to buy it or whatever, and the guys that normaly steal this stuff dont even appreciate them, they just get some money out of it that they wil probly go and spend on drugs and whatever else those lowlifes spend their lives doing. i just makes me so angry! hope u find it all in one peice

I too have just read the whole of this thread. My son and a couple of mates spend lots of time out at Homebush at the 4X and sometimes it can become very lonely out there. I do worry and now I can see that I was right to worry.

Hopefully, Sam, you will get another bike but luckily all that happened to you was a bruise and a scratch. I will keep my eyes out for anyone looking like these guys and I now have both security and police numbers in my phone. As for bags of stuff I won't let my boys take anything with them.

I am really very sad that this has happened out there and yes, Security can be a pain. I went out there one day to pick up my son. I had my dog, a Schnauzer with me, so I let him out of the car. In less than 2-3 minutes Security were there telling me to either put him back in the car or put him on a lead, which I didn't have with me. This has now happened a number of times and it is amazing how quickly they arrive when I am there with the dog!!!!

Pity they can't watch out for thieves instead of dogs. Obviously dog crap is more of a threat than criminals!!! VERY DISAPPOINTING.

Good Luck Sam and Oli.:)

ive just read this thread and it must suck to get a expensive bike like that stolen. i want to go to this track but i now have second thoughts. Funny enough i have i giant ac 06 model that i have just brought and i realy dont want it to get stolen but its no point having a bike that doesnt get ridden.
im going to take peper spray and some other jazz. i will have a look around to see if those low dikheads are there. i have a fearly big mate that might come and if those guys are there he will talk to them.
