Really, not a very well kept secret!

Get down there with a shovel and fix the f!@#$ing thing instead of whining about it!

'scuse me mate, but if you knew how much work myself, Tim, Scotty, Mark and a bunch of other assorted Canberra locals had put into the place before it was turned to shit, you could understand why we can't be arsed to fix them.

Nice riding.

Strangely enough Roasted I'm quite familiar with Mark and Scottie.

You're right - the jumps have been there a long time and they do get periodically trashed. However, this shouldn't be a problem for most as they only stand there looking at the large line.

As for a "bunch of assorted Canberran's" putting in any sort of spade work down there - I think not. Myself and a mate have tried to maintain these lines for the best part of the last 3 years and we ride there nearly every weekend and don't have to dodge any shovel wielding "assorted Canberran's." In fact, you may have seen us there, here's a hint - we're old and large and carry big tools called shovels.

If you can't be arsed fixing them don't be arsed riding them.

Cat's Outta the Bag

this is abit of topic but..... Not the best of expressions. It was from the cat of nine tails (which is a type of wip) and they kept it in a bag. So when someone did something wrong they said the cat's coming out of the bag.

Nope. Usually taken as referring to dodgy market practices whereby merchants used to put cats inside bags that they claimed had a piglet in it (cats being useless whereas piglets were handy things... you can use them as footstools for instance). That may be wrong too, but alternatively it has been claimed that it refers to the rapid acceleration of your typical feline from said bag. http://www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-let1.htm

The local government have found and bulldozed pretty much all the local DJ's including Florey. Presumably this is because government sanctioned DJ's are being built in Gunghalin (and hopefully at Stromlo) thanks to CORC.

Wow, are you sure Florey weren't secret? Surely someone as bright as you obviously are has perhaps heard of sarcasm. I thought there for a minute at one stage that you might have been alright, guess I was wrong. You are a tool. Get off your high horse and quit being so defensive, there was no blame being placed on anyone. You are not the only member of the Canberra mountain biking community that is " politically aware " (if you could even call cross country riding moutain biking). Is it any wonder some members of this forum bother to post at all when all you recieve back is total dribble and people blowing wind up their own arses. See you at the jumps.

Sorry, I took the "thanks to CORC" bit as being: "Our jumps got trashed thanks to CORC" rather than: "We hope to get Gov't sanctioned DJ's at Gungahlin thanks to CORC" (because I'm a dork)

Blah Blah Blah, trails team content: The creation of illegal jumps and unapproved trail features in Canberra makes CORC's job of getting more challenging stuff approved and developed harder. It makes our lobbying for greater access to other areas harder. It gets beaurecrats and Gov't employees offside and makes them less willing to work with us. It gives ammunition to those who would argue to the minister that we are a menace and an environmental problem.

My hope is that if we can get some jumps approved and get the design right so that the area accommodates beginner, intermediate and advanced lines, then the problems of lines being modified and toned down to make them rideable for less accomplished dirt jumpers should be a thing of the past.

I'm also hoping that once we get the first ones done and show that they can work, we'll be able to use that to lobby for more around Canberra.

The best thing is that work done to build them won't be wasted because as approved structures they won't be getting torn down in 6 months or a year. Being visible they will also raise the profile of dirt jumping as a legitimate sector of the mountainbike community.

Squidlips, you haven't exactly invited friendly conversation here yourself. Let me give you an example: get down there with a shovel and fix the f!@#$ing thing instead of whining about it!That was your second post which I found completely unprovoked...and then you complain about the conduct on these forums. I suggest you have a good look at yourself before critisisng others.

Nuff arguing boys, only constructive convo from here on in, please.

If we are chasing constructive info, I'd like to know what features you folks would find most desirable at a set of dirt jumps.

Thus far, things on the list are:

Multiple separate lines (beginner, intermediate, advanced, crazy) so that the big stuff doesn't get dumbed down.

A good supply of spare dirt to use for repairs

A good windbreak for the biggest lines
