Today after riding at the BMX track we needed some refreshments so decided to stop at Hungry Jacks and get us some unlimited refills. We got there, put our bikes at the entrance ( Manik, Sasquatch and a BRAND NEW kona stuff) and I went in to grab a drink. We decided to sit in the outdoor area with a small glass fence between us and the bikes. after a while we noticed some really dero looking guy cheaking out our bikes, but before we could go out and grab our bikes, he was away on my Sasquatch  (dumbass picked the least valuble bike :p ). Without further adue I was over the fence and after him going completely balistic after him! Shouting really loud "thats my bike, get him someone help" I pelted after him for about 300m before falling over from exhaustion and shock. I looked over at the road to see an old Holden Commadoor absoulutly hooning down the street straight after him, he saw them and threw the bike at some old lady with a pram and ran into his house ( that was just next door, but hoestly what a bloody dumbass, now I have his address  ;) ) the lady in the passenger seat collected my bike and wheeled it to me. We looked back to see him coming back with a crowbar or car jack or something but the guy in the comadoor was onto him sped around and the guy ran away.

I never thought it would actully happen to me, I always think about it and usally am very mindfull to not leave my bike unattended, it was a bit stupid really on my part but I am just so lad to be riding my bike agian.

Oh and by the way, i've got his address and six witnesses who are ready to speak so i've gone to the police and they are starting an investigation and said if all goes well he should be convited in a couple of weeks :D .

Tomorow I am going down to the bike shop and investing in some top notch locks, i've also got a combination padlock to put throught the hole in my disk which should help a bit in future events.

Cheers,
Tom

ah dude, what a degenerate wanker. glad it turned out ok though. i dont usually condone retaliation but id invest in a few dozen eggs, in winter they'll take longer to reach their peak. probably wait till hes convicted though, dont want to give them any reason to drop charges.

Lucky, I always park the bike upside down, in the highest gear and with the helmet clipped through the wheel, I figure that'll buy me about 3 seconds.

why weren't you're mates chasing him on their bikes.

Sounds like you got pretty lucky.
A good trick for the future is to take the chain off your front cog. that way; if he tries to get away with it he wont be able to pedal for the first 10 metres.;)

Thats a good idea, thanks.
Yer I was a little dissapointed with my mates, they were a bit slow off the mark and weren't that willing to chase the guy which was a bit anoying but they probably did't know what exactly was going on I spose.

That was a good read. I'm glad to see you got your bike back and I'm sure you would have been absolutely thanking the crap out of the commodore driver.

Put an elastic band really tight from your brake lever to your handlebars, there's a few extra seconds, can't go anywhere with the brakes on.

YES! I went and got them a carton of beer and a few boxes of celebrations as soon as i got home. Could not stop thanking them! I'm onley 14 so to shell out another $1500 would ruin me. They were really nice and helped me out after it happend so much. The funny thing was where it happend was the other end of town, a fair distance and they lived a few blocks away form me so that was pretty cool.

And thanks for all the tips guys, I think I lack a bit of logic not to think of them.

flip it and undo your QR levers(if not QR then chuck it in the hardest gear)(if you have V brakes, undo the noodle fron the arms.. no brakes the :)).. just make sure you dont forget about it when you leave again:p

I keep a tiny little string lock attached to my riding toolkit I carry in my bag with a combination lock (no need to look for keys). If I need to pop into a store and leave my bike up against a wall, I just run that through the frame and wheels. It's thick enough to resist being cut with pliers, but it's really only intended to stop opportunistic snatches.

It's not a good idea to use a padlock through your disc - it's too easy to forget you put it there and damage your mount when you take off!

Tom,

I am glad things worked out well for you. This does not surprise one bit in this town. If you left out a smelly pair of undies with a $1000 price tag on them they would be gone before you knew it.

the easiest way to stop your bike getting stolen is to take it EVERYWHERE!!
ive been surprised how many places dont say anything if you take your bike into their store. in the subway line, through shopping centres, newsagents etc etc. jb is actually the only place ive been told to take my bike out of hte place, so thast when i lock it up outside and be as quick as possible.

I love citizen arrest.

even though it is more like "Citizen chasing down the bad guy until he shits himself and drops the goods"

...love it.

I went to hungry jacks not to long ago and after reading this thread i put my sassy in the highest gear and sat it upside down. My other mate did the same. We had no trouble. Glad to hear that you got the guy. Had your revenge yet?
