Whats the difference between Super Tacky 42a and Slow Reezay 40a?

For Minion DHF tyres?

Very slight difference in durometer between each other, especially when the next step is up to 60a.

So whats the diff? and why?

the slow reezay wears slower and gives less grip as it is a harder compund and the super tacky is just that, super tacky n wears fast.

I would have expected the Super Tacky 42a to be a slightly harder compound, as it has a higher number than the Slow Reezay 40a, seeing as the hardest is 60a.

But why have two such close compounds?

agreed, its such a small diference and yet the two compounds wear so much diffrerently. the super tacky tends to 'tear rather than wear'.

hey that ryhmes. i copyright that.

Super Tacky tends to wear quickly and Break up. Slow Reezay lasts well with good traction used them for years.

I always thought that slow reezay was a softer compound than super tacky...

yea, second that. The slow reezay's wear quickly, but for a $60 tyre, they can afford to, and they grip real nice like. I run the SRY front minion on the F+R. Triple compounds are an expensive wank, so the word on the street is (purely heresay).

slow reezays ARE a softer compound than the super tacky. The slow reezay 40a compound has a 'slow rebound' ie, if you press your fingernail into the rubber, it is slow to get back to its original shape......this is what maxxis claimed when the reezays first came out. The super tacky does seem to give the same level of grip, but strangely, it does wear out quicker.

Somewhere some time ago I heard that the Slow Reezay's were dual compound with a slightly softer compound knob and a 60a casing and bases of the knobs. Not sure if this is true or not but seems to fit in with what everyone else is experiencing in terms of wear.

Thanks guys - got the idea now, I am getting a couple of SuperTackys tomorrow, wish now they were Slowreezays, but they are a good price, so no real problems.:)

I am going to have a brand new 60a DHF, brand new ST 42a DHF, and one race old ST 42a DHF. All 2.5.

I am thinking put 60a on rear, and use the one race old ST on front, and see how it wears, then use the unused ST from there. Maybe race days I'll put the other ST on rear.

Is that the best use of them? what do you reckon?

Slow Reezays also wear evenly, wheras Super Tackys flake and tear as they wear down. I'd run a SR on the front and a 60d on the rear if i was concerned about wear, but you could always throw on a "flogged" SR between races.
