That is a bummer you guys can't ride what sounds to be a good DH track. If there is signs there saying keep out and someone does get busted by the coppers....sucked in, you asked for it. There is a bad amount of respect for peoples property when it comes to some tracks and in this case, it will prove to be a bad thing if you do get caught.

I loved that trail! Sure it wasn't the longest or hardest ever, but it was mighty fun to ride. We used to go there for the past year and up until a few months ago we never saw anyone there! I think in a year we saw maybe 2 other groups of DHers, a couple of kids and some XC boys pickin their way down. Maybe we were just there at odd times or something, but we were convinced it was some great unknown secret trail heheh. We worked on the trail too, making/maitaining berms and stuff... such a shame to see it go :(
There was a rumour that the trail is actually built on 2 seperate land ownerships and that the guy who owned the bottom section didn't mind ppl using it. The only problem is finding exactly where the land seperates from the top guy's to the bottom guy's and how short and pointless it would make the trail if you only used the bottom guy's land.
So what caused all this sudden new traffic anyway? We went from being there all day and seeing no one, to 6 or so different shuttles going at once! Was it closures of Sydney trails forcing ppl down here or was the trail just becoming general public knowledge??

Maybe the locals should get signs made up saying all of the Wollongong trails are closed so no out of towners can ride them...but keep them open for yourselves. That'd stop the obvious influx of destroyers......

out of towners dont care though, they'll just ride anyway.
it's not that there destroying the trails as such that is the problem, it's the amount of guys shuttling up and down the roads all day is what is drawing all the attention to these trails. what once was a quiet place where you wouldnt see anyone there for weeks has got 20 utes, vans, busses, trailers flying up and down the road every weekend and it has got way out of hand.
now its shut down which will now put more pressure and traffic on the other local gong trails and sadly they will all go eventually.
im trying to find a land owner locally who will let me and a couple of guys onto his property so we can build a new trail, i'll be making sure its not of public knowledge if i can find a spot.

Cletus is right, the way things are going all the Wollongong trails WILL be closed! We have lost Bulli, Uni and now Yellow Rock. What really bugs me is that these trails could have remained open if it weren't for a blatant lack of consideration for others. Bulli gets closed due to riders being too disruptive for local residents, as well as illegal builds being erected. Uni goes down, as far as I know, because a girl was thrown off her horse at the bottom, as it was spooked by riders... who didn't even bother to stop to make sure she was ok! Now we lose Yellow Rock!
I have actually spoken to the land owner there, and he once told us that if we started down a little further it wasn't on his land and hence there would be no problem... now he was a little vague as to exactly where his land stopped, but I don't think/hope it would mean losing too much of the existing trail.
*Rant coming up*
So as far as I can tell, trail closures have thus far been due solely to a lack of respect from riders for land that is not theirs. Simply because something exists that is free to use and does not strictly monitor/police your behaviour does not mean you can abandon all sense of responsibility. Think of the trails as national park territory, i.e. you leave them as you find them! And think of the local residents as the native wildlife... and don't p!ss them off!

wow, Bulli all over again. It was an illegal track from day one. 12 months ago the owner told us not to ride there, more then 12 months actually.

Yep was nice and sweet when there was only a few people out there.
Once word got out it was getting a little ridiculous. I don't know if people were aware that we were't supposed to be riding there or just didn't care.
Same old story.

this is a legend about wollongong
long before bulli etc there was jamberoo,
before that the moto track etc.
its the same story everytime, i know of a great track but i dont even ride it often because people know people, who ruin tracks for people.
realistically (or however its spelt) people should not be scared to go over the back or the escarpment and check out the back roads. its further from town but further from land owners winging shit :o yes i know its their land. but im prepared to do a tonya harding for the team :)
or we all beg for jamberoo back.
or we all pitch in and buy land between a thousand of us.
or better i go to bed,and anyone pm me if you come up with a solution to this problem so we can finally get a track.

I have been racking my brain trying to think of other potential locations, but between liability-paranoid land owners, shuttle accessability and useable terrain, there arne't alot of options as far as I can tell. But it would be awful nice to build something new and have local farkineers pitching in to create/maintain it :)
Up around and further past Brokers would have been ok, but you'd never get a shuttle happening there. Then there is perhaps out west dapto, but agian that's all owned by local farmers. The back of the escarpment is pretty inaccessable isn't it?
Oh for a time when riders, trail builders, the council and residents can all live in harmony... wait maybe if council members and residents became downhill riders themselves then they would be all for it and let us build wherever we wanted! :D

west dapto is definetly an option ie old avon collery i was up there on friday on my dirt bike investigating and there is sum pretty narly trails above the burnout building which would be a walk up run. i kno of a another run that would work for shuttles other interested local riders pm me if ur keen to pitch in and build a track on an already existing trail sorry guys not to keen to disclose gettin out of hand i moved to downhill to have more places to ride after finding motorcross almost whts is it coming to...

This is old news. Hasn't been open to ride for ages. The guy down the bottom is cool with riders, its the old "wog" guy that cracks the shits. He owns part of the property the track goes through. Tried chasing this track through council while back to find out who owned what etc etc. Was a good track, but dont go there as jumps etc have been removed, logs accross the track etc.
