my mates (including farkin members rickazz and jack_giant) recently rebuilt abby walk after the council had destroyed it....
We started it up weeks back and had transformed it into a very decent riding trial ( 2 gaps around 10 ft long, makeshif rockgarden, and some decent corners with roots etc)
Rickazz and myself went down today with camera's and all hoping to get some phat snaps, when we arrived we saw tyre marks, the council had been to install garden posts around cambells croft and had sighted and destroyed our track.
It is the second time abby walk has been destroyed, it had been fine for years and one day mountain borders went to far, building half pipes and grindpipes that stood out even from the walking trail.
If anyone is considering riding at tracks in the area be careful as major penaltys apply for building on public land:mad:
The people who's property backed onto our track (although it is still public) had tried to stop us building there once before, by placing large tree's across the track, and flattening our jumps. We are guessing that it could have been the people living there who ratted on us or the council just spotted it by fluke... either way its the second time they have had to destroy it so they will be keepin an eye on it now:(
too see pics of our riding track see rickazz post in phat snaps

Must be good having a XC track near your house
hehe though seriously here its a shame that it was destroyed but thats the way it goes if you build on council land. theres always that risk. looked like a fun trail though

Its people like you that ruin it for the rest of us.Councils are fine with trails that are out of the way and not affecting anyone.
Im trying to get a petition started to get a new track built, its people like you that build illegally that ruin peoples chances of having legal local trails. The reason they get the shits is:
1) often trail users are messy and litter
2) SOME (not all) trail users are a public nuisence
3) Tracks that are incorrectly built often cause problems with erosion
4) Public liability means that there is no insurance ( as it isnt a council approved track). So they have to cover their arses by closing and or demolishing the track.
So you see, your probably better off finding tracks that the council wont get the sh#ts with and try to build them so as to reduce erosion.
Please help your fellow track builders by not re-building your trails and moving your riding trails to somewhere the council will approve.

Although it probably isnt the smartest idea to build on an area that is council land (and visible to the public! ) a lot of people do not get a chance to go to places that there are trails etc. as they are in locations that are either a) too far away, or b) inaccessible from where they are. I mean he probably didn't intend for there to be any retributions but it is hard for people to find a trail that council are 'ok' with. I know from experience it is hard to go to your local DH/FR trail. I'm riding upwards of 7km's on my dh rig just to get to the local trails. Although there is bush nearby where i live, council patrol it so thoroughly and regularly that there is no point building and it will not go well with them. Sometimes people just become so desperate for a nearby trail that they have to build in the hope that council will be ok with it. Not always the best idea but sometimes that is what it requires. Thats my thoughts anyway.

I know this trouble all too well, as i ride between 10-15km on a plush dh bike with supertacky's just for somewhere to ride my bike, but i have to do this to ride. I accept this, this is why im pushing council to get this new track accepted. Find a place thats out of the way of walkers, horse riders etc.
Then go to council yourself, with a list of local riders that are behind you and will possibly be riding the trails. And harass then for permission if need be. But youll be so much better of doing it this way. As you can build better more permanent tracks that are worth riding.
Help with my petition if you are willing to travel to ride a permanent properly built and maintained set of trails. They have not been built as of yet, but this is why i require some names to help pursuade my council.

ok people grab a seat its time for a story.
once apon a time abby walk was born a young lad named Mark Harvey who lived very close to this spot built 5 berms a track which went for about 100m.
as mark got older and more crazy he built 2 gaps over path. council no problem.
about 1 1/2 mountain boarders came along. built one massive berm and made the path gap bigger and better for themselves.
this track was fine with council with them didnt have any problems.
maybe a month ago mountain boarders came back drove there cars in and began to cement in a grind rail a massive kicker maybe 2m high, construsted a wall ride by nailing pallets and wood to a tree.
they even went about building a quarter pipe against a tree with pallets.
these mountain boarders took it to far causing the council to come in with a bobcat and excavator and demolish everything.
all cooper did was try and get a low profile course to run in the same spot as where there used to be one.
the council made the place look like a bomb had hit it there was logs and dirt every where.(not blaming anything on council)
some thing that he could ride and enjoy.
some of victorias best downhillers have practised on this track and one of australias best dirt jump riders has ridden here for about 7 yrs.
its like springfeilds lemon tree .............. its been there forever

its a great track with heeps of history..was sad to see it destroyed....the track was almost invisible to the public however the council had seen it before as the mountain border went stupid exposing it, recking the track for us all....
i agree it does piss the council off, but the track wasnt big or ugly, just smooth and built well, you would hardly no wat is was unless u were a rider
the closest trails to us other then this up mt dandy which is approx 35km away.......
35 km on a plus dh rig?
so you see that its not that we tried to "piss off the council and reck it for everyone" vermont and its sourroundings have a massive riding community, this track has been built again and again over time by all of us....

Well my suggestion is get the dj riders and all the top dh riders down to the very beginners to show the council that they need somewhere to ride. Try to pursuade the council to let you keep the trail if its kept properly and well maintained.

this is true.....however would have all been sweet and avoided tho if the damn mtn boarders didnt reck it for us all!...the council was sweet with a nice trail with afew gaps, i guess they may be worried it will get that big again and will become a safety issue.....also, when the boarders started pouring concrete...i guess u cant blame the council for demolishing it the first time
where bouts do u live? interested in you petetion

it mite also be a good idea to get sum signitures from the people livin around the area (the ones who dont care of course :) ) and show that personally to the council, find out why it has become an issue, find out the limits
hopefully they wont try n bill us for all the finds they gave the mtn boarders...one was something shocking like $3000

The track was no problem at all with the council, they used to come and talk to us occasionally, so you can't say its people like us who are wrecking it for everyone. Besides what else are we supposed to do? go and graffiti 7eleven and take drugs. That is what will happen if the council dont provide entertainment for teeneagers. They did build a nice little bmx track a long time ago but no maintenance has been done since and now its just lumps of dirt that you roll over. I might try writing a letter myself.
