Probably should wear gloves and shin guards too. But the fullface is compulsary. Look down the bottom of the forums for the mtn bike clubs and they should sort you out.

Settle down mate. Not all of us are as intellectually gifted as yourself. And i can think of more than a dozen posts done by yourself that are pointless, irrelevant and just plain stupid. Ease up

EDIT : http://forums.farkin.net/showthread.php?t=60458&page=2 A Perfect example

I recommend body armour,

Ive been getting stuck into Dh for a few months and my armour bears so many scars that would have caused a considerable amount of pain, and possibly more of an annoyance, ended many days of riding half way through.

It is an awesome feeling to have a bit of a monumental, bash the ground with all parts of your body, spring up, shake it off and realise that you have suffered no major physical damage or discomfort.

Not saying that you are indestructable with body armour on, but it sure does help. To quote a rider ive heard on the trails a few times.

"you boys with body armour on, just remember it doesnt hurt that much..."

'Spose it's all how serious you want to go and how quick you go. Body armour would be good, but it's going to look stupid if you're crawling down the track. Sounds like you've been riding with your mates for a while, so judge yourself on that. I know heaps of guys riding fast with only shinny's and normal helmets, and another who wears full face, body armour etc. etc. and doesn't go real quick at all. Maybe just judge yourself to see if you warrant it.

Trav189, I would have to disagree with my fellow Farkineer here. Whether or not you choose to wear armour all boils down to how much you dislike pain. Don't worry about what you look like - I raced at the NSW State champs at Ourimbah on the weekend, there were plenty of guys who didn't look super cool. A bloke in hobo's clothes, a super quick kid in HT named Reece in his trademark flannel shirt (but you're a pretty cool guy Reece...:-)....), a bloke in Masters with a rubber monster mask taped to the back of his helmet, slow old bastards like me with every piece of armour you can buy, the list goes on..... nobody cares what you look like, just that you are participating, and having a good time.

And yes, there are plenty of very skilled, very fast riders who race in nothing but a T-shirt and a full face, and don't seem to fall off their bikes much...... ask yourself if you are one of those guys.

So, just get out there and race. Check out all the threads on Ourimbah last weekend, visit http://www.ccomtb.org.au. Hope to see you on the hill sometime...

Last few races I went to it was pretty fashionable not to wear upper body armour.
I know personally, I'm far more likely to have a fairly substantial off at some point during the day, so I'd prefer not to do my race run sore. Hence I wear a dainese upper body suit and a pair of fox neoprene knee pads. I wear fox moto shorts, short sleeve moto jersey and TLD gloves.
That said, I'm far from a shredder, I'm a sport/expert level rider dependant on how big my hangover is.
The setup ain't cheap, but to me it's worth it. But yeah there will be everything from dudes in a ff helmet, googles and t-shirt to people in full shuttle suits. It's all personal preference.

as its turned into an armour thread....
definatley wear armour! why the hell now. is it better to think ur some sick c#$% with no armour, and then walk around with grazes and stuff all over you??
i wear all the stuff. i wear my TLD shirt over it, and u cant even tell.
i dont crash that much, but when i have, the armour has taken it all.

i fell off a log ride on a double black north shore ride over here yestereday. i fell 3 feet straight down shoulder first, straight into a rock face.
the armour is scratched- im not.

I didnt know you wore armour under that shirt mate,

I thought you were just a massive unit... See the benefits of armour are everywhere.

I love armour because you can lean over to get around trees, especially at Ourimbah. You just clip the trees with a shoulder and it generally slows the outofcontrolness...

does anyone know if they make thigh armour? i just got smashed sooo hard on A-line. landed a jump no footed, and got bucked off. slid on my ass for ages. elbow armour worked a treat tho.

so just to keep this relevant- dont push anything till ir comfortable doing it in the first place....... and wear armour;)

ask roadie rob he would be in a wheel chair if not for some body armour that saved his spine in a nasty rock garden accident

Yep, I've got 661 thigh armour - it looks like a pair of back niks with smallish pieces of high density foam stitched into it. You wear it under your regular shorts, very comfortable and flexible and you don't know you've got them on.

These would have been very helpful for the bloke who ripped his thigh to bits on a pointed rock in Saturday practice at Ourimbah last weekend - he got carted off by the ambo's. I didn't see it, but I gather he was in a bad way - it was a very exposed wound, lots of blood, needed lots of stitches.
