I am staring to race Dh and saw that there is a larger majority of hardtailers wearing cips than guys on dullys.
I was wondering if it would be stupid to do it on a HT but my way of thinking was a my feet bounce off a fair bit that the clips would help me keep my feet on and then meen better conroll.
there one last race before the off season and i was planning to learn then. I can geta set of clip pedals and shoes for around $180.
Basically should i give it a go or am I just wasteing my money???
Generally if your riding a ht on down hill you are going to get allot more salp on the rear end. And if I were you I would get them.

Try them and see! Everyone has there own opinions and everyone is different! Some people like them, some people dont and some people just cant make up there minds like me! After all that alot of HT riders that I have talked to do like clips as it is easier to float on the bike in rough sections.

yep benifits you in the rough and also helps you
with a more constant powerflow through your pedals
IE: circles - not up and down ,, you get alot more power
out of your up stroke with clipps ..
180 should get you out of trouble decent shoes and pedals ..

one thing tho. dont "try" them at the race. it will end in certain pain!
get them on, take an allen key (one for shoes, and the other one for the adjuster on the pedal) and go for an easy ride around a football oval.
you will need to find the best place for the cleat in the bottom of the shoe (i like wearing mine so the cleat is in the middle of the ball, and towards the inner side.)
then you will need to adjust the tightness of the clip release. i recommend running them loose so that you can clip in and out really fast for drifty corners.
now the reason i say to do this on an oval is that you will fall over alot. and grass hurts less than hard dirt/ concrete.

If I was getting them it would be for my birthday which is a few days after the last race to be held for a couple of months. Its in this time that i would learn to use them. Thanks for all your opinions and i think i might go ahead and get them, or let my parents for that sake.

if you are getting the shimano shoes and pedals, beware. ive noticed that the pro shoes dont interface nicely with the pedals.
the remedy is a quick run of the sole over a bench grinder (there are two ridges near the cleat insert). it only needs to lose about 2mm or so, but its the difference between them sliding onto the pedal nicely, or getting stuck...

nathenial, it will take u a while to learn with clips, and for toowoomba, u wont want to wear them lol, there's only a few tracks in the series where clips would be an advantage. and also i cant see running ss with clips would do much at all, maybe more acceleration

it will always come down to personal choice, all we can do is give you an argument on to clip or not to clip.i have seen people on ht dominate other fellow ht's that are cliped.if your truly keen, jus try to get a cheap pair incase they aint for you.

You should be able to pick up a cheap set of old Shimano DX's of ebay rather eaisly.... They are fully adjustable and the clip is spring loaded upwards, makingit alot easier to clip in for new comers to clipless.. Give it a go, makes rock tracks so much easier.
