I need to vent...
So i finish work at midnight, i come home to watch a little bit of TV before I sleep, Only to find, not just hotdogs' crappy up late show, but the same crap on channel 7 and 9 as well. So i had the choice of 3 crappy uplate game shows, a political debate, and a french movie that didn't even have any good bits in it.
I thought i'd never say this, but i would rather have Big Bro uplate. At least that mike guy (as stupid as he is) is a little funny.
Ahhhh
feel much better...now i can sleep anger free.

Just be thankful that you guys don't have mobile phone based tv games yet!
Here they are on nearly all the time, apart from prime times of course.
They make tv unwatchable, which might just be a good thing. :p

Hey Pete, that's exactly what he's complaining about.
And yes, I totally agree... they make TV unwatchable and at that time of night, if I'm still awake, I'll be playing games on my PC instead.
Sad.. I know ;)

I agree. I rarely watch anything on TV anymore if it isn't motor racing or other good sport. Supernatural is a mad show but it is off air until the second series starts.
SOme of the shows that are worth watching are on at stupid times and I couldn't be bothered recording them.
Lost is a prime example of garbage, the show started out with a lot of promise but in my opinion it has failed to deliver the goods. I'll be investigating pay TV very soon, they have bulk sport and quality movies available.
By the way...Big Brother is the worst thing invented for TV.:p

Thank god big brother is over but there it still the crap coming, Australian Idol. Two of the shittest shows ever invented. After coming off the Soccer world cup and the TdF all TV is shit.
Border Security and Medical emergency are good though..

I highly suggest getting foxtel.
It took my family a year of saving up the dough for foxtel (and broadband) and no one got any christmas presents but it was well worth it.
We got the $100 a month package, but the monthly fees can be as little as $20 depending on what chanels you choose...boring T.V. will be a thing of past;)

Or...set up TIVO, or just get a decent HD recorder, go through the guide and spend 15mins plugging in the weeks viewing and there it is - all stored for your viewing pleasure whenever you like. Its amazing what is on outside of normal viewing hours....and you can dump the ads quick smart. just turning on the tellie and channel surfing is old school...:D
Or do I have waaaaay too much time on me hands

i do that with my topfield too. can record up to two stations at once.
HELP which finished last week was a great 6 part series doco that was on SBS. it followed ambos from NSW to their call outs. really makes me appreciate the work they do.
but even still, im struggling to find anything to watch. luckily i have xbox 360.
im so sick of dancing/skating/singing/surviving with the stars. they can all fuck off for all i care. not my fault they are all dumb fucks who cant get a decent contract together. interesting to see that public humiliation is the new genre of choice.
as for aus idol, it has some promise once it gets going. sure mark, kyle and marcia can be harsh, but there is some talent in there. at least the show serves a purpose (winner gets a record contract), unlike BB which just exploits 16 people on national TV (everybody dress up as sumos and roll in jello).

I think the instance where im going to need to record two stations at once nowadays is highly unlikley. Its hard enough to find ONE thing worth watching ;)

Hahaha, good point!
I have a Humax PVR upstairs, and a HD set top box with HDD DVD recorder downstairs. I can't recall having had to record two things at once. I'm going to move the PVR downstairs (means I'll only be able to record one thing at a time), but at least I'll be able to pause and rewind live TV.

Pfft...who needs TV anyway
You'll find that a trip to the local DVD store, and an investment in a DVD burner will gain you hours of entertainment. Or alternatively invest in broadband and download copious amounts of pornographic material :p

Many of the dudes I work with download entire seasons of upcoming US shows like 24, Lost, etc, burn them to DVD and watch entire seasons at a time. I haven't caught the bug yet, as I can't really be stuffed trying to figure out this whole BitTorrent thing, but if I had the time to watch hours of TV every night, that's how I'd be going about it.
About the only show that I won't miss on a weekly basis is House. Apart from that, though, I'd rather be Farkining.

We don't even own a TV.
I even have a universal remote on my keychain so I can mute/turn off random televisions.
What is the purpose of free-to-air television anyway? To sell you stuff?

i downloaded and then watched all of prison break. the last episode was available within 1 hour of it showing in the US.
ill do the same again when the new season comes. 24 sucked this season tho. they have run out of ideas. and jack didnt go badass on nearly as many people this season.
as for recording 2 things at once, the only time i do that is when two programs cross over. (1 goes from 8.30 - 9.30 and the other is 9.00 - 10.00)

Yup, I am all for that. You can also get things that aren't shown in austrlia, like some good british TV shows - eg. The IT Crowd.
Another advantage is that instead of wasting allmost 50% of your time with adds, there are none on the downloaded show (eg. a 1 hour tv show will only go for 40 minutes.)
You can watch what you like, when you like.

Is good the ol' download thing. I usually get Battlestar Galactica (new season soon), The Daily Show and Dr. Who 'cause I'm usually out Saturday when it's on and never remember to set the recorder.
As for good shows on telle - they're around. "Extras" last night was good. "City of Men", "Chaser", "Rockquiz", "New Inventors", "Spics and specs", "Insight", "4 corners" etc.

I did get handed The Extras about a year ago. A director I was working with had just come back from London and brought it on a hard drive. Funniest thing I have seen in years, although it does kinda suck the fun out of watching it on telly now that it is airing in Australia.

I do much of the same, wouldn't miss House, or Doctor Who.
He is a good Doctor this year too, David Tennant. I recently got myself the entire four seasons DVDs of Blakes7, and have DVDs of every series of Doctor Who, with Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker and Peter Davison being the Doctor. Of course recording current ones as they come.
My wife has all the Buffy series on DVD.
Rather watch something over again than the shit that is spat out by tv networks.

I Barely ever watch TV, but when I do, and when I am home on a thursday night I used to love catching the triple; American Dad, Family Guy and Scrubs. That was the best hour and a half of TV I ever got to watch, and it was on every week! Now of course, its been ditched for the winter, so I just plain don't watch TV at all anymore.

I bought my missus all of the Sex In The City DVD box sets when the last series ended and then watched them all myself. Actually ended up getting right into it without the ads...

yeh i must admit my girls done the same to me. i wasnt really into it on TV (couldnt justify hanging around to watch it after the ads had finished) but once on DVD it was fun to watch. same with 24 and lost.

I've pretty much all but abandoned aussie TV*, the commercial networks are shite and cables an absolute rip-off for the incredibly poor selection of channels you get. (christ, African cables much better!) I'm now relying on my mates to copy shows from broadband or buy shows from the UK on DVD. I'm finding this a lot better as it means I can watch them any time as well and it doesn't really cost that much (well certainly the downloads don't!)
Best shows I've been watching at the moment are the Daily Show, Deadwood and Green Wing (it's like a British version of Scrubs but with lot's of swearing, surreal and sadistic humour, no saccharine sentimental bullshit and no Counting Crows! Best Show Ever!)
*ABC and SBS still rule though...

It's not been shown here yet. My bets would be sometime in the future on SBS although ABC might have a go. The first season's available on DVD from Amazon.co.uk and the like or if you want to be naughty give Limewire a try. The second season was being shown on telly when I was home in April but won't be out on dvd for a few months...
Oh, so you think midnight tv is a shithouse? Try queueing at Centerlink with midday tv...
