I just moved to north melbourne and I'm having trouble finding night-time spots to hit.
I just did a pretty good search of the uni. of melbourne and found jack-all.
Does anyone have an orginized night-time ride or spots to recommend?

Do people still so the wednesday night ride? used to start at the riverside skatepark, then go of other places.
Its kind of hard to explain over net, but general areas .
- any uni/school
- docklands region
- few fancy ledges and stuff if you ride along st. kilda road.. but its all pretty spread out.
thats all i can think of atm!
try melbourneriders.com and ask there about city rides.

yeh, they still do the wednesday night ride but not every week so watch the mr forums if you wanna get the riding hookups. yeh also south bank and the old fed square if you wanna do some quality huckng. docklands are lots of fun and all
port melbourne, lygon st projects, State library/RMIT, Parliment Wall ride
yeah the wednesday night ride is still happening, usually dies down to about 6-8 regulars through winter.
I've got heaps of it mapped in google earth but i can upload the file format to Farkin... mmm i might do something about that...
THIS IS NOT A WORD DOCUMENT
I renamed google earth's .kmz file so i could upload it.
You need to rename the file to Melbourn-Urban.kmz this might mean farking with your view settings so you can see the file extention.

Very good Jerome, very good indeed.
Great idea to map it out using Google Earth.

Has the altona meadows bmx track been fixed up? I went there around a year ago and it was in derelict condition but my friend reckons it has been re done and has huge jumps. If this is true it would probably be good to ride.

Even through i doubt he meant out this far, it has been rebuilt, i will get some pics soon as soon as i can be bothered going out there, Similiar set up to hill n' dale, but dirt not concrete (well no conrete yet, that i know of)..
EDIT: btw, its now a jump park, not really a race track.

Yeah, I went to the altona meadows bmx park today. It looks like so:

The jumps I'm hitting are the best ones. Pretty smooth. All tables, no doubles so it's nice and safe. The lips on all the other jumps are a bit messed up. Including one line that has really, really steep lips. Why did they think a vert lip made out of crappy dirt would last?
I reckon the council needs to cement the lips.
On another note, I went looking for 40 acres and couldn't find it. There was just a bunch of sandy, crappy motocross tracks. Where is 40 exactly? Anyone want to show me?
I would even like to grab a shovel and get 40 running well... I like to DJ off in the bushes away from cars. It's more spiritual that way. I HATE having to listen to cars whiz past. If 40 is where I think it is, it could be real nice.

The jumps looked a lot better when they were getting built!
owell probaly head out there tommorw if i cbf doing the 12km ride there..
40's... mmm back in the day this place was great, apart fromt he absoultly shit soil (all shells), alot of people put alot of effort in. These days youc an still see what it was like, with the jumps still there, just most in shit condition.
To get there you go to the skatepark, then follw the path away from the main road (queen street), keep going, past this little river/pond thing. theres a big grass hill on your left (theres a good path gap thing if you cbf riding up there)..
keep going, then the path splits i think? but always keep left, keep going the path should turn into a dirt gravel one. keep going, past this fenced off area, where all the motos ride.
keep going, and you should be at 40's when you first get there, the first jumps you see should be a rather steeep set, with the second last jump being what is known as the barrel jump (has a masssive barrel as the landing which was rolled from the old tip)..
as i said i havent been there for a while.. but last time i went the jumps were pretty run down. few still ride there mainly BMXers.. if you go on a MTB you will probaly be killed.. by lots of 13 year old who think they built the joint.. for fuks sake i did more work there than they did and they throw stones at me! but thats a differet story.

Yeah, I posted this same thing on www.melbourneriders.com and they refused to tell me where 40 is. It's not like I'm not gonna find it. I know it's in those bushes somewhere.
Someone needs to teach these groms some respect for their elders.
