http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/08/28/plane.crash/index.html

well, on sunday night, a small commercial plane crashed after the pilots took off using a runway that was more than too short for the aircraft.
unfortunately 49 passengers and crew died, the sole survivor (the co pilot) is in critical condition.

whats interesting is that none of the aussie news networks picked this up.

the investigation has just begun, bit it appears that the pilots were on the wrong run way, and tried to take off as a last ditch method when they realised they couldnt stop. as valiant as the attempt was, they crashed in a field just beyond the end of the run way.

the real questions being asked is why the plane was on this runway to start with. considering that not only was it unlit (very early morning flight so still dark) and how come the pilots didnt realise this issue when they still had a chance to pull out.

I know JJJ mentioned it in their news updates yesterday, I don't think it was completely ignored.

One bonus about Tassie TV- it directs you to bike shops.... I reckon every LBS in Launceston has an advert on the television :p (there is about 7 Shops)

Did you guys hear about the Russian Tupolev that fell last week also?
I think it crashed in the Ukraine or somewhere like that. (May have been Belarus i think!?)
All onboard died... :(

Did a Tupolev crash? Can't see why that didn't make the news... except for the fact those planes are only slightly safer than attaching loads of helium balloons to your deckchair and controlling your flight with a pellet gun.

By the way! Your old username bothered me for ages, I'd heard it somewhere before but couldn't place it, thought it might be the name of a scientist who did experiments with light. Then I read in yesterday's SMH - Red Orange Yello Green Blue Indigo Violet! So now your username and avatars all make sense to me now :)

Hey, give me a break, I've spent the last two hours building a new bike and performing incredible feats of bush mechanics. Nothing knocks down my self-esteem faster than actually doing some real work ;)
