Found these old photos while moving.
The year: 1988
The mission: 180 ft huck to flat during an abseiling adventure
Used to do a lot of abseiling in my teenage years. The place in the photo is behind where I grew up SouthWest of Tamworth. The cliff there is 220ft top to bottom but has a niche in it about 40ft down. Our plan was to tie on to the rope as usual but get a run-up from the back of the cave and launch far enough out to descend all the way to the bottom where someone is stationed to pull you up by heaving on the rope. It never quite worked but we did launch a hell of a long way out from the cliff face - only to smash back into it with force (note the damage to the bike). As you can see our attention to safety was second-to-none with no helmets and home-made harnesses made out of seatbelt tape. It's a BMX (yeah I know, but it was 1988 and 26" bikes were very thin on the ground) but it was completely sacrificed by the end of the day so worry not. Thought farkin members might get a kick out of these.

Yeah, he's not actually falling in that one, held in place by pressure on the rope. Ah, the gloves, the acid wash, the adidas romes, the mullet - the 80s sure were ordinary times for fashion... and music for that matter. Fark I feel old sometimes. And happy father's day to other parental type farkiners.

heh heh. Three collar bones and 18 years later I don't think that's likely! I would gladly be technical advisor on someone else's attempt though!
