Well, somewhere along the line today I scratched the staunchions on my 888's fairly badly (well, what I think is fairly badly):

Is there anyway you can fix scratches in the teflon (or whatever it is) surface?
Mind you, these scratches are deeper than just the surface they're actually deep enough to scratch into the metal in the leg.

Is this going to be a problem if I just leave it? (I'm assuming it will screw the seals and suck and dirt and muck past the seals, but maybe not).

I'll post up some pics tomorrow when I work out how to do it :)

how far into the travel of the fork is it? make sure you just lightly file down any sharp bits (so it feels smooth), and that will stop it damaging the seals.

mate go to a panel beaters and get some 1000-3000 grit sand paper and give that a go after you file it, obviously start of wid the 100 and work dwn slowly and do it carefully...as to the surface finnish got no idea!!!!

hope that helps dude!

Let some nailpolish set in the scratch for a couple of hours then sandpaper it down. I did this to my Shermans and it worked a treat.

Has anyone here had their forks repaired by the guy at Bike Addiction?
If so how did it work out?

Which of these metal filled epoxy types do you think would be most suitable:

Heres some emery paper options too:

Pics up now.

Anyway, I'm off to get some metal filled epoxy and emery sheets etc.
I'll let you know how it works out. I'm positive it won't be pretty but I hope it will be functional :)

Bike Addiction know what they are doing and generally do a good job. They fixed my DNM USD180s and I never had any issues.
