I'm currently looking at starting racing DH and maybe doing a bit of FR
I'll probably be riding tracks like:
Ourimbah
Oxford Falls
Thredbo and so on...
I was just wondering if i could get some suggestions
I'm happy to spend up to about 5g's
OPEN TO ALL SUGGESTIONS
cheers

with that cash you could pick up an insanely good second hand ride, or a still pretty god damn good new ride.

I don't race, but I'm liking my Specialised Demo 9 on the tracks at Oxford Falls. Also look at the Balfa BB7's, they are pretty confidence inspiring ride :)

However that would leave you with 2K spare which is what I would do if I was starting out, but maybe you want to blow all the cash in one go :) up to you and have fun either way.

of whos money, jayramy :p
your dads no doubt.... or the little leprechaun who hands out make believe money
mods - he's a good mate, so dont worry
nah but in all seriousness im thinking that the Ironhorse Sundays look good, as do the Giant Glory's.
Maybe if you're looking for spec give the Mongoose EC-DH a test.

it could be good to go second hand: good luck

If you can stretch the pennies far enough, I'd love to see No Skid Marks' ex demo RaceLink that is for sale make an appearance at the race track. He's got $4500 on it, but you'll have to find a wheelset, brakes & forks, & a few other small bits & pieces.
How does that sound? Too different?

 You have a massive budget for a first race bike:eek:

Anyway, heres some if you want to spend all of your money:

Or if you wanted to go a little easier on the cash, but still get an EXTREMELY good bike and save the money for upgrades or when things break, I owuld look into 2nd hand demo or a sunday etc.

If you buy new, go the glory!
Hope this helps, Josh

For that money I wouldnt settle for anything other than botique, i.e. Nicolai (http://www.nicolai.net/products/e-frames.html), morewoodbikes (http://www.morewoodbikes.com/) and so on, also, with $5k I'd definatly look at a gearbox bike, or one of these 2 stage bike (http://www.2stagebikes.com/page/146).

Good luck man.

you wont get a gearbox bike for $5k dude and you wont get a nicolai dual shock built up for under $5k and if you do your jsut wasting the frame

if you want to buy brand new i would recommend either a Glory 8 or a Glory, they are both sweet bikes and you can take advantage of the new maestro platform giant have available!!!

Though since your just starting i think it would be best if you baught a second hand downhill bike to bash around and get the feel of, i wouldnt recommend going out and spending alot on a bike if i was starting to ride DH, look for a second hand DH Team or a DH Comp they are sweet, look for an 04 05 or 06 model =) that would get you started!! then just get some armour and your good to go!

Best of luck with it. :)
