Hi.
Just a quick question. Sorry if its been asked before, but I did search.
About to be entering a DH race soon, and was just looking through everything, and noticed you need a FullFace helmet with the Australian Standards sticker.
Now I knew you need the fullface, but didn't know you needed the sticker inside it.
Both me and my mate have helmets that do have the Aus Standards, but do not have the sticker on the inside. (661 Full Bravo and Mace Paak 9).
Is this going to cause any problems? I've looked on both the sites and is states that they are approved.
Is there anywhere I can go get my helmet checked and get on of those stickers?
Or is it really not much of a issue (with well known helmets) and people just say it because they need to?
Thanks, Jordan.

ive seen this quite a few times at races. jordan basically just show them its a 661 helmet and they should be sweet. or if you want to be extra sure print off the pages where is says its a approved and show them that i meen thats even more evidence than a sticker in a helmet oh by the way it doesnt have to be Aus standard approved. its australian OR international standard approved

We were talking to gillian Duncan of MTBA about this the other week and she said that they will use a bit of common sense when it comes to checking helmets. If it doesn't have the sticker it's not the end of the world. Probably not a bad idea to have a printout of the webpage just incase. If you show up with a bucket on your head there might be dramas

GREAT!!! I just spent $9.95 on that bucket. what a waste of money. I had even cut out eye holes.

Its ok, just fill it up with space invader foam, and carve out a space for your head, then you should be fine to ride with it.

From what I understand (and I could be wrong here). But I didnt think that any fullface mtb lids could have the Australian Standards sticker, as all full face helmets can be confused for a passed motorbike standards hemet...
... So no idiot would use one on their motorbike. The stickers look identical between both bike and motorbike Aus Standard.
Obviously the big name full face mtb/bmx helmets on the market do pass aus bicycle standards, but from what i understand they cant put stickers on them...
Can anyone confirm this?
Ben.

Not true.
Fox bring out a AS approved full face.
The question is why. As pointed out elsewhere AS for bicycle helmets don't really cover DH racing.
For example they rate the helmet at max crash speed of 30km or something.
From what I understand, and I could well be wrong, most full faces would fail because of their reduced field of vision. This has little impact on a race course where you are only concerned with whats in front of you.
Also to gain AS sticker it cost money in tests and what not so most manufaturers choose not to bother when the standard is not really relevent and they are already covered by an international standard.

There's only one helmet that cover's australian standard's.
That's the new fox mtb fullface. Not even TLD's pass.

which is why MTBA is allowing the use of equivalent standards-approved (ANSI, etc) helmets...

booyakasha. Australia is the only country in the world that doesn't allow the "World Standard of testing" (the CE label for those who are wondering) as a legit test. Which is understandable, cause CE never tests the product, it just take's the data from the companies and evaluate's them. Where as in aus, no good, everything has to be tested.
