Manly Dam Closed 7/9 till further notice

CLOSURE
Due to the heavy rains the Manly Dam mountain bike trail has been
closed until further notice.

Please inform other riders of this closure and ask them to contact me
to be included on this email list for future updates.

Future use of Manly Dam for mountain biking does depend heavily on the
co-operation of riders during these closures.

Thanks

Nicole

This is a statement we should all be worried about. Are there any temporary signs errected informing of the closure? Is there anything to warn the idiots that choose to ignore the closure that they risk ruining it for everyone?

assumption is made it will stay closed untill in is in a condition that it is ok for us to go tearing through it again....

sorry crystal ball is a little dusty...not able to tell if it will keep raining till wednesday like predicted or if the forecast is slightly out...

ofcourse for those of us with a little 12 hour event on the weekend   we are all hoping the rain happened on any other weekend

With this warm weather has the dam dried out enough now to be reopened?

i dont really know how much of a positive influence it is really going to make (jack all in my experience with councils) but my dad just got the job as director of environmental services at warringah council, he starts in 6 weeks. this effects us because it is his subordinates that are one of the many steps in approving/denying applications for development. eg bike trails.
it seems to me (never having lived anywhere near the warringah shire) that the council is already pretty happy with bikes in general already, but im hoping the ol guy will be of some help.

I am not sure of the status of the track at the moment but Nicole (one of the rangers) is coming up to the MWMTB club champs this Sunday so will ask her what the story is.

I had a look at the Balgowlah/Seaforth side this morning and it was all completely dry. The Allambie side is generally worse but I would expect it to be open any day now.

I might be up for a mid week night ride :)

has the track actually dried out or it's just less mud like?

Cheers

I rode parts of the track today. It has dried up nicely. No big puddles to speak of.

There's a big bog towards the bottom of the descent to Curl Curl Creek. It will take some time to dry out as it's fed by seepage from further afield. So be ready for it if you take this section fast.

Plenty of wet patches and puddles from the creek around past the Eva's track.

And still pretty boggy behind the Manly Vale PS.

The North Balgowlah side is completely dry - that's from the Water Reserve Rd entrance right around to the descent to Curl Curl Ck (or ascent depending on your direction of travel).

This weather will help dry the damp sections out quickly but the boggy areas are being fed by seepage and they will probably take another week or so to firm up.

But expect your bike to still get a coating of gunk due to all the puddles.

What he said. It's not too bad but the bogs are very erm... boggy.

Sand and water in your chain, mmmm crunchy!
