Today i was just riding along when i went around a corner(fairly fast) a cat decided to come out of a drain and run in front of me... I hit it and i think i came out with more damage.. my leg hit the gutter, pedal hit my ankle, bar hit my chest.. now i have a couple grazes and some nice bruises, and a disliking towards cats.. but im just a whinger i guess haha:o

I was hoping (to make the story cool) that you busted your leg or at least mashed something... a couple of scrapes and bruises? pfft.;)

Reminds me of a story:

My friend was doing the big set at the dirt jumps and this guy had let his crazy rotweiler run around the jumps. He landed the second jump to find the dog infront of him. He had no choise but to bail so he jumped off his bike and ended up with bad bruising. People should have there animals ander control in biking areas.

I just would have hit it. God I hate dogs. Mostly because people dont train them. If you're going to get a dog then TRAIN IT.

It's not the dogs fault mate. Maybe it just got out of the yard??

yeah but as far as i'm concerned you should be able to trust your belongings/pets enough to not need to pen them in...

we dont pen our cat in - it's come back every time without fail

animals learn - if say it got the living shit beaten out of it by another bigger cat, then it doesn't mess with it again.

if the guy on the bike hit the dog - then the dog would know to keep the fark away from bikes/bikes jumping in future;)

I think maybe pop the front and hit the dog if possible .Might of sustained less damage to yourself.
As for the cat ,wouldv'e hit that for sure. They're pretty flexible ,dont reckon you would've hurt it at all.
Pets in any situation should be under control ,especially where people are riding/skating/whatever.I think that most councils see it that way too.
I dont hate animals ,on the contrary ,I have both a dog and a cat and they know their place in the household-not under my feet;)
On the pet subject too, does anyone walk/run their dog beside the bike or take the dog when riding?Interested to hear as I have tried doing it and the dog runs around the front wheel:mad:
cheers jon

Yeah, it is a split second decision. The natraul reaction would be to jump off your bike so you dont hit an animal.

Hey i have a little silky terrier and i used to roller blade while walking him, ride scooter and my bmx. He was really scared at first going as far from me as possible but he got used to it. I havnt done this for years might give it a go again!!!

What i hate most is people who dont walk their dogs on leashes sure they behave most the time but it can take something small and teh dog runs off and eats another dog or attacks a person.

i hope the cats fine,as a rider you should be aware of situations like that wether it's your fault or not, because everyone will blame it on the rider.from now on take the corners wide, never go in blind.

I think the cat got away ok. but at the time i should've been wearing my brown pants:p
the reason why i hit it was because i took the corner wide because the road was wet and the cat panicked and just ran in front of me...
funny at the time though

Once a cat ran infront of me so I just ran over it. All happened in about .2 of a second. It should have ran the other way.

:One day i was riding along the highway with a mate when a huge Owl swoops down next to us with a possom in its talons and lands infront of us. This owl was big, we stopped and watched it for a while until a guy went to walk past it. It took off across the highway got agross the medium strip luckily but then got wiped out by a van.
The guy who walked past it sprinted out to see if it was still alive, we werent sure but it looked pretty dead. It hit the van dam hard so we weren't surprised if it was but he took it to the vet just down the road n that was that. Went to the vet the next day to see if it had survived and he said "yep it was fine flew away this morning." I was so surprised it lived neway thats my tale.:D

Only thing I've almost run ove is a bluetongue (a few times) - once I think I was riding somewhere in Darwin. And another time I was on my way home (this was in Townsville) fireroad type trail and I see something coming up at the last minute, thought it was a stick/log or something, when I got closer it's like oh s#*t it's a bletongue, it didn't even move, but plenty of room to go around it anyway phew - don't fancy hitting one of those!

Back in the days when I used to visit my Mum in Gympie (QLD) on school holidays, I remember coming across (and pretty close to) a fair few red belly blacks:eek:

I'm a softie so would feel pretty guilty about running over a cat - but yes definitely would see the funny side.

Have you ever seen a dog hit by a car? Deffinatly not something you want to see, even more so if your stubborn enough to hit the dog reguardless. It usually results in a quick one way journey to doc. Harry. Plus im sure you would prefer a few little cuts and bruises the will go in hardly any time at all, then a dead puppy on your concious. However, agreed, if people are goin to have and let them loose make sure their *trained*. At Long Gulley they had a dalmation running around on the ride day, but it was trained well enough to now that unlike new jap crap cars bikes dunt have that "infered detection system" that allows you to see things before your eyes actually pic up on them :p
