Is Buller comparible to Thredbo? $25 is good value for an all day pass!

Holy sweet jesus this is quite possibly the coolest thing ever. Finally Buller is back!!!

Does anyone know if there will be any races held there in the future??

Buller is probably better than Threbo (matter of opinion) but there is more focus on singletrack, and some KILLER (read 20km or so) downhill singletracks to do at the end of the day. (if you are prepared to do the car shuffle thing). Thredbo should try and learn the Buller pricing model.

whoa $25!!! last time it was like $100 or something and you had to do 'initiation' or something too...

as far as i remember there was the ABOM track which went down under the horsehill lift, which was a 4 min nice fast rough single track run that is heaps off fun, then there was the buller 2000 track (i think?) which was more mixed up had some techy stuff in there, tree jumps a steep chute thing, and a little fireroad... also very fun... the best part... the LIFT! the trails end right at the pick up, and the trails start at the drop off, I did about 15-20 runs of the ABOM in a day at the interschools a few years ago my hads and fingers were fucked from the beating they got...

This is gonna help the vic DH scene a lot! there is nothing better than chairlifts and downhill! WOOHOO! i want a DH bike!

How far from Melborun CBD a drive is it to Buller? I am going to Melbourne at chrustmass time when i get my new bike and looking for places to ride it and for a day trip $25 is sweet. Does anyone have any pics of Buller? And would you be able to catch a bus with your bike to and back from it + riding al on 1 day?

it's about 3 hours.. you can do 1 day bus trips in the winter, i doubt there would be dedicated services in the summer tho'

yeah pretty sure that there isnt a bus service running up there over summer.

but im sure some of the melbourne crew will be heading up there, so if you ask really nicely you might be able to get a ride.

whats the difference between a
Adult Day Ticket = $15 (15 years plus)
All day ticket - $25 per person (includes all day usage of mountain bike trails & Horse Hill chairlift).

cant you ride the trails on the $15 ticket only use the chairlift?

i'd say the cheaper price would be just tourist/hiker people prices..

They need to factor in trail maintinence and insurance costs into the ticket price, i say 25 bucks isn't somthing to be shirked.

i think the prices are very reasonable actually quite cheap really but yeh just the difference between the $25 and $15 tickets i was interested about

dude, chill. seriously, lay back, in and out, in and out (breathe)

Can't wait to hit it up. good thing is summer accomodation is also pretty cheap at most places and it shouldn't be hard to find a room!

01_250 i knew before u any way, cause i fukin told u about it. The tracks at Buller that are actualy possible to ride are the Klingsborn (12km dh down the entire mountain) and the 2000 national course that needs a fuk load of TLC. Or it just needs to be riden by a few brake lovin people to clear all the weeds. I have been talkin with the organises and i think that we will be builden a few more tracks and etc, but i think it will be bassed on the amount of people that make the trip this summer. If every mountain biker in Victoria makes the journey then Buller will stay open and more tracks will get built. If no one goes then it will close just like before.

To all those complaining about the old prices for lift tickets:
Did you ever help to build tails there?
How do you think they got there?...

...............

GET OFF YOUR COMPUTERS AND RIDE!

i think i'm the one you are talking about, i was talking about the huge price difference rather than complaining about it, I pay $60-70 odd in winter, i wouldn't complain about a similar price for mtb. I did not like the 'initiation' thing, actually it was what prevented me from going there (other than for races). $25 is insanely cheap and i hope lots off people take advantage of it, if it takes off that would mean people would be keen on building/maintaining trails.

Save the anger, it won't help anyone.

I actually went to Mt Buller on Friday and it was awesome.
It is going to get hammered pretty quickly though, especially International.

I am on the opinion they need a track similar to Int'l but more flowing (less rocks), less stop start/brakey (to avoid rutting) and wider to allow more line selection - similar to anything you see in Whistler. But all this costs $$.

$25 is reasonable for what you get. I would be willing to pay more for a couple more Whistler-esque trails.

Love from the Real DS

Just got off the phone to Mt Buller resort management.

Sun 25th and Mon 26th Jan. the road will be closed from 9am - 12pm and 3pm - 6pm for the Porsche rally.

The good news is lifts will operate and tracks will be open until 6pm so get there early for an extra few hours riding at no extra cost .

haha,
I live in the mansfield, the closest town to it. I look out my kitchen window and twitch to ride. But the snow is lookin real cold at the moment. there some single trackin ridin all round. IF ya get up top of any of them .Feathertop, stirlins, the buff, dinner plains there are tracks everywhere. Rumours here say taht the buller ppl are tryin to do abit more of a Northshore styled stuff aswell as the "international" run and ABOM. Well i will seat here and wait for the snow to melt, enjoy melb!

ahah

Nah, no 4x track and no jumps (as in dirtjumps).

As for the downhill thing, not sure where you got that idea, they're uphill tracks. You get the chairlift down to the bottom then ride back up again.

(Hint: yes, they're proper DH tracks :))

It will be interesting to see how much the price of fuel affects ticket prices this year , seeing as the lifts are powered by diesel engines. That combined with the increased cost of getting there will limit my visits to Buller this year , sorry to say. It will have to be a full car load of mates or no trip to Buller. :(

Theres only one solution ......I need a pay rise! Time to do some grovelling...
