hey,

had an incident the other day where i hit something on the road and got a flat, and on closer inspection have put a rip in the sidewall that i can see the tube throughhh. So does this mean time for a new tyre? If so whats good for a front tyre just for general road k's thats going to be decently priced, a bit tough (our roads are fair shit) and has some decent tread life to it. would be great if someone could help me outttttt. i have no clue.

For road riding (just riding, no tricks or jumps or anything)
These do the job http://www.schwalbe.co.uk/shop.sfxp?page=category&id=548&usmSID=476845-961-064

schwalbe tyres are good because they will last a fair while and are also fairly fast
although the continental ones will also last u ages plus they are advertised as "puncture proof" get a new one if u get a puncture in the first few months or something and depending which version of those you get most are fairly quik:)

2nd vote for the Conti Ultra Gators.

3rd So far so good.

Mine have survived a couple of weeks of the crap on Sydney's roads and the occasional mis-timed-gutter+fixie incident.

Obvious question - road bike or MTB?

For MTB commuters I like to ride Vredstein slicks, top notch.

Make that a 4th. Good durability and puncture resistance. Not tooo pricey and last a fair while.

5th vote. I've been using these for years and they've got a bit of a better tread pattern now than they did a couple of years ago. They're not a "quick" feeling tyre, but if you want many miles of trouble-free riding, these will do the job admirably.

6th vote.

They now make them in 28x559, which means there's a 28mm wide version to fit MTB rims.

Only done a few hundred km on them so far, including a short piece of uphill singletrack on the way home, that I really shouldn't be riding on slicks... no flats yet.

I ride with the Continental GP 4-Seasons, they are like the Gatorskin in terms of sidewall protection, but lighter and have a stickier rubber compound (similar to the GP3000 but won't go hard in cold weather). Run 700x23 on the roadie, 700x28 on the commuter, top notch.

Has anyone mentioned Conti Ultra Gator Skins? oh ... I think they have, perhaps that's a hint? (ie I sense a theme here? :)

didn't know they came in 26" version though... that's good to know...

yeah conti gators are good at the moment though
i have maxxis detonators on my training roadie and commuter
pretty fast but really tough and long lasting.

never had a puncture on them and theyve lasted about 7 months of training in all weather not bad price either
