I figured a new thread was in order.

After months of work my peugeot fixie is complete, until I find some other part that needs chroming or polishing.

It is a fixie....

but...

I'm not hardcore enough to ride without a brake though. This is my first fixie so it's all still new to me. Perhaps my next one will be sans brakes.

That looks beautiful with the shiny lugs.

You decided to go with MTB bars, how do you find them?

The bars are a cut down Polished Tioga bar, not sure if they're specifically MTB, just a narrow riser bar really.

I'm much more comfortable on the bike with these bars as either the bullhorns or drops put in a very stretched out position, not comfortable. It feels like it handles better this way too. :D Kinda like a tall, really light, MTB. :p

Oh dude...
Who did the chrome/paint finish, and can you give a description of the processes involved? I have a real fetish for using chrome as a highlight, this bike is a perfect example of the technique.

The chrome and paint was all done by Matt at Kookie Bikes. www.kookiebikes.com

The way it was done was to sand back the frame to bare metal (you could bead blast it I guess but it would then need to be rubbed back to smooth out the surface afterwards), acid bathed, the whole frame chromed (it's not worth chroming sections of a frame), the tubes to be painted were rubbed back to get rid of the shine, then a pearl paint job and a few coats of clear.

Took a long time but it was worth the wait.

Next?

I don't know at this stage.

I'll probably stop buying bike bits for now, holiday coming up so I need to save for a bit.

But when I come back I will probably turn my attention to building a 6" trail bike. I might look at building a proper track bike at the same time. :)
