hey,
this is a general question, with the grip sport crank holders do they only com ein one lenght? and if so can someone post me pics of how far the crank slides in as i am plaing on building a bike rack to fit on a trailer and was thinking is i could make the crank holders fold down so that the rack can be used to stack on. girp if you have some measurements that you are willing to give out please hit me a pm, if you want more details on my idea hit me a pm aswell.

It comes the right height for most DH bikes (to the chain guide) ive had about 7 diff bikes fit on my rack, however i did cut about 10mm off the bottom to allow to allow a nicer fit, i used Saint (oversized) crank holders from Grip.

do you know roughly how long they are, would you be able to measure, as i will mount it lower to allow for correct piviot.

Matty, our crank holders are 275mm long. There's no way I can tell you how far cranks extend down into them though because that all depends on the bottom bracket height of the bike and the length of the cranks being used. ie. taller bike and shorter cranks = less crank in the holder. 275mm seems to be about right for the vast majority though.

hey grip.
would it be possible to get them custom made longer? 325-350mm?? as it would be easy to trim excess with angle grinder rather than havve them too short.
can anyone else recomend me a cheap steel suplier of 3/5 or 1inch steel square pipe, and 1.5mm flat steel sheet?

I doubt you'd ever need them that long, matty. Stand your bike on level ground with the LEFT crank pointing straight DOWN and measure up from the ground 275mm up the height of your left crank. That's where the holder will come up to.

hey grip,
i know i shouldnt need then that long, but the idea is to make them so that they can swivel down on out trailer/rack so they are out of the way, so this means that they will be mounted lower than normal so there is a correct pivot path.

No probs, Matty, if and when you're ready just give me the overall length you want AND the length of the lot and we can do them for you.

Cheers

Hey Matty, why not draw a diagram of your idea or something... The way you are explaining it makes no sense imo, or am i just a bit slow??

hey Pete J,
ill send you a picture tonite, but the idea is to near the bottom of the crank holder drill a hole through the back wall and put a bolt with a non-threaded part thought it, and then put that bolt through the frame of the rack, so that the crank holder can piviot, from standing up to lying down out of the way, then using a peice of 10 or 5mm rod with a split pin lock it in place.
