hey guys, im still looking for a second hand bike and since i havent found the right one yet.. should i just start building my own up as a project?
right now i have around $1000 but xmas and my bday are coming up so ill maybe get another $500 all up
Id be doing mostly street and dj's and i've been looking out for something like an stp 1 or 0 .
if i was going to build, some parts which i would like to have are..
Note: All the parts are based on second hand prices which i've found on farkin
Frame: Stp zero- $250
Forks: Pikes/Fox Vanilla R- $550/$400
Cranks: Truvativ Holzfellers- $140
Stem: Easton Vice- $40
Bars: Ea50- $40
Brakes: Hayes 9- $250
Wheels: Sun Rhyno Lite- $200
Tires- Maxxis Holyrollers- $80
Bottom Bracket: Truvativ gigapipe $50
Chain/Sprocket/Cassete- $150
I've worked out if i build, it would be around $1300-$1550.
am i being a bit unrealistic about these parts and prices..?
can you guys think of anything else i would need or have i priced them wrong?

What i've realised is that most of the parts i want are basically the same as the stp0..so what do you guys think? buy.. or build..??

You can get stp frames cheaper than that, if its going to cost that much your better off just buying a new stp1. Also if your not planning to build it yourself it will cost a bit to get the shop to do it for you.

most of those prices are very optimistic. realistically you will be better to buy a complete bike. Building a bike is worth while if you have a very specific spec in mind and a large wad of cash in hand. Building what is effectively a stock stp from parts is a bit of a waste of time and money.

better off buying say a STP2 or something like that
also see if you can buy a 2nd-hand one because they would be heaps cheaper

i think you should buy, you could pick up and brand new 05 or 06 stp zero for abit over 1500

Well, You forgot hub's (+350), cable's (+15), grip's (+30), postage for all this (+150 depending if they are all from diff buyer's), Building by lbs if you can't (+50ish). So really, your buying 2nd hand part's and building it for the price of a brand new stp. Hmm, i know where i'm going. You should be able to pick up a new STP0 for around $1850ish.

I agree. Building does cost a lot of money, it would be much more ideal just to buy the STP0 stock and upgrade from that.
