Hey everyone,

I have been hunting around for a while for a cheapish bike for a comutter. I have found one that I am keen on in Melbourne ( I am in Canberra ). Can anyone recommend a company to ship it? can they do the bike in one pieace or does it have to be taken apart? anyone done this before that can give me some tips or a cost?

Thanks

Busfreight (http://www.busfreight.com.au) are cheap and fast :) You can also send the bike in a bike box so you don't have to strip it down.

Thanks heaps - looking into that now.

I don't think the seller is willing to strip the bike down into a box ( and buy the sounds of it wouldn't even know how to do it )

Will busfreight accept a "whole" bike?

Have used busfreight Wollongong->Melbourne and can recommend. You'll need them to at least remove the pedals and wheels of course to get it into the box, and the seller will have to get a bike box.

They are available at most bike shops if you ask nicely. You could also send them a box i guess. Just make sure the extra hassle of obtaining a box, boxing and freight is ok with seller before you bid.

Buy a one way ticket to Melbourne (and Back! no sorry) and go on a holiday, then ride the bike home! :D

Thanks everyone.

I have contacted the buyer who doesn't seem to want to pack it in a box for me ( it's only a cheap bike I guess ) Just wants someone to pick it up.

the bike I am buying is 10 years old, is a full rigid setup and is just for me to ride to work. I have a number of bikes.
More than happy to buy one from my LBS but they don't stock old crappy bikes

How about you shuttup? I guess by your logic you are opposed to anyone selling their bike 2nd hand then, because who ever is buying it isn't supporting their LBS. Its not ebay that will slowly shut down all the bike shops, and if you think that then your a moron. If theres something wrong with the bike you take it to your shop to get fixed - hence your supporting them anyway.

Congratulations captain dick hole.

Easy on And1 that's a bit harsh, considering Jazzy_B didn't cross any lines (personal attacks, homophobic content etc. etc). He's offering his opinion and besides horrendous spelling, there isn't anything really to slag him off about.

Capt. DH (er I mean Jazzy_B) Fix your spelling.

While this is true, it just really grinds my gears when people like to throw totally unthought out arguements and claims into the open. Plus I think everyone knows I contribute nothing to farkin other than slagging. ;)
