ctr Boy bike Co, also look at the 2003 hardtail NS range, THey are awesome hardtails to ride from experience. They are a bit big, and they will fight you initially but once you tame them, you can realy do some damage with them! Best DH hardtail readily available imho.
They dont make the CTR anymore and by the NS do u mean the norco north shore series?
find another 800 and you can have a complete sick skate dirt park /dirt jumping bike, see the for sale in my sig, it's like a BMX with big wheels and sweet brakes.
sorry for the spam
shit sorry i forgot you already had parts off your AC

for your money a da bomb is a rip. try looking into a Revell theyre beautiful frames. also consider a dmr or a gt ruckus but try to stay from mass producing companies like norco
heres an url www.revell-bikes.co.uk
No offence to any revell riders but they are ugly i dont think i could ride an ugly bike. Thats for your input tho
I just seen the dirt frame looks pretty cool

haha, I definately agree, if what ryan, oppy say about there dmrs, they are the bomb.
would they be suited for dh??
and which one??
The Trailstar Rythm or Sidekick?
I like the XLR8, Dan rides his hard... so i think you won't have any problems....
You get what you pay for, plus you wont have the same bike as other people :P
Awesome ride...

The optimum frame geometry is different between all teh diciplines so you can only try and get the bike that will be good (ie, not the best) at all of the things you want to use it for. The DMR Trailster has shorter chain stays so will be good at jumping, urban, street and should be good if you ever get out to try any ns stuff. Oppy has hucked his off 13foot so they do hold up well. For Dh, they ain't going to be the best but you are using a hardtail for dh so you aint' exactly having DH has your primary disipline so it should work very well :)
And the model I am talking about is the trailstar if you hadnt' already picked up :)
The da bomb i can get for around about 600..
so i think ill go with that because its a pretty sweet hardtail and can be used for almost anything
I'd get a DMR Trailstar... I have one and I love it, it's a perfect all-round frame.

Are u looking at steel or alum or both? i would say the dmr is definatly a sweet frame as i just rode one the other week and it just felt right, da bomb also make a steel hardtail called the CR8 whcih is suppsoedly really good although ive never ridden one, its more of a DJ bike i think. if ur going HT its my opinion that u get a steel frame. alum cracks and tends to get stressed more
Dan rides an XLR8 and he gives it hell shit so i know that the xrl8 is strong.
it also looks pretty sweet
i dont like the look of the DMR's for some reason

I know a guy (who's 14 or 15) who cracked an XLR8 in a couple of months, *only* dirtjumping it.
Well not all frames are the same I suppose.....

Fuzzy, you are pritty set on the xlr8 so I reckon go for it :) THey are a nice frame and I think ben cory use to/might still does us the xlr8 for his dirt jumping :) Da bomb to me seem to have gotten a bad name due to there connection with "bombshell" in the states. I reckon go for it and I am sure DHD will fix you up if you have any problems :)
DHD might be the way im going or through my local bike shop im not sure yet

uhhhh, ok. You do realise that GT are owned by Pacific, quite probably the most mass producing-ist of all bike companies.
Any UK-made hardtails tend to be good stuff. DMR, Identiti, Revell, Curtis etc are all pretty sweet frames. SOME American hardtails are good (Evils, Endlesses, etc) but they tend to be very pricey.
Disclaimer: most of this post is made on hearsay and general conjecture. I haven't ridden any Evils etc, but everyone I've come across who owns one seems to be happy enough.

get a le toy 3 as far as i'm concerned...i'm fat and used it for everything from jumping to street to downhill runs on cootha...i ripped an eyelet out of my dt hubs and all kinds of stuff and it just copped it...watch the videos of the street riding on www.abikeonline.com and u will see they are indestructible...saying that tho ther are pricey, shame they don't import them anymore...i got mine for $700 aussie!
Im selling my Boy Bike Co Frame for $275..
as Turley said they are pretty bloody good. It has really nice geometry for Ska8 parks ... jumping .. DH anything you want.
www.crashtestresearch.com.au has more info on the frames.
email me if your interested. I promise you a bloody good Hardtail frame. !.
personally i would stay away from the DaBomb's there not bad value but they are produced in Asia if i'm not correct?+ a mate craked one. I'm not 100% sure on where DMR are made either it could be asia as well, but it's cromolly and i would trust a asian cromo frame over an asian Aluminium frame. I used to ride a Norco cromo 250 a pretty cool HT frame but again asian stuff. I have recently just built a up an 03 Intense Tazer HT and love it, i have found it soooo much easier to throw around than the 250. So basically this is my advise. If your going with a cheap Asian produced frame go with Cromo, if you decide to spend a little more go with an Aluminium top end frame, i.e Orange Miss Isle or Intense Tazer (i'll get photo's up soon, the nicest bike i have ever owned) I got my Tazer extreamly cheap from a guy in the states, that might be an option if your up for it. Oh was going to say i really dont like the geometry of the XLR8 the laid back seat post looks ugly and is impractical. You may even consider the RAD tubing DaBomb forget what it's called.
Tim
well most people find it kind of hard to justify a $1500+ hardtail frame. i'd love to have a US handmade frame but when it comes to value for money stuff made in asia is damn good. i'm stoked with my Boybike, they are probably made in south east asia but i don't expect to be breaking it anytime soon. with the numbers of bikes being pumped out of factorys in asia you'd reckon they'd know a thing or two about making bikes by now. i don't know why you seem to have issues with stuff coming out of asia, coz yeah sony, technics, nissan, toyota all seem to be quality products, and guess what, there made in asia.
all bikes break at some point, just coz you mates bike broke that doesn't mean all DaBombs will break, i've seen bent shivers, does that mean all shivers must be crap?

dmr made in the UK. theres only one good rider from england dose that mean.nah i won't go there.
yeah what the hell is wrong with mass produced bikes.ease of getting warrentie, and the like.
Just anyone know how much an identi jekyll would cost?

it would be similar to what the da bombs and the ctr were 600 to 850. but im not sure if you can get them in oz .but i could be wrong.
I love those bikes and it didnt enter my head to get one cuzza overseas and stuff like the imperial is 1600 and the toy 3 is 1600 also so i thought it could be the same
i need a price if anyone has one because i cant go to the bike shop till monday and i gotta do some bargaining with the olds:P
Would this be any good for dual slalom also??
Would this be any good for dual slalom also??
It's only called a BSX HT.... I wonder why.
what is actually the difference???
or are they the same just less people racing?
Hey Ty,
i never said they were not good value, they are, but when frames are mass produced attention to detail is often lacking, they dont spend time with quality control, So bikes will crack, a larger percentage probably dont. Your also right they do also have warrenty if your willing to wait 6 months plus for them to get back to you (in most cases not always), and your also prepared to get given the 3rd degree on how you cracked it. Some companies have a good warrenty but are extreamly hard to get stuff out of. I just suggested a top end frame, you can still get them pretty cheap if you know where to look. I have a mate with a second hand hardly used LeToy 24, would probably sell it for $600. I have also seen Orange Miss Isles in the paper complete bikes for $2000. You could pick up a frame really cheap. You could also check out Ebay, there are stacks of frames on there, and it's relatively safe these day's. There are plenty of new frames also being sold. My Tazer i ended up getting fo under $1000 AUD including shipping, it's 03 and had never been built up. now i think they retail for over $2500 AUD if i bought it here. In any case i'm just stating there are options. Also again if you still want to go an asian made Aluminium frame that's cool, go with the RAD tubed DaBomb, it can do more things than the XLR8, just normal trail riding is hard on the XLR8 because to put the seat up it also goes back, along way back. Sorry to crap on.
Tim
Personally I'd stay away from Da Bomb, not because they're made in Taiwan, but because I've heard a story on another message board from a small frame builder who had his HT design stolen by Da Bomb and couldn't pursue them because of the nature and expense of chasing up an international patent violation. Thats a dog act in my books and Da Bomb will never see a cent of my money for that reason.
toy for 600??
whats it like??

Although it is true that the DaBomb CR8 is quite similar to the .231 hardtail, and in fact shares some of the same pressed cromo components, your statement is nowhere near the full story. From my understanding both were contracted out to be built in the same Taiwanese factory. Apparently when you contract the construction out you can choose to have exclusive rights to the dies used to make certain pieces of the frame, .231 chose not to do this. As a consequence DaBomb were allowed to reuse these dies when building their frame.
This is my hazy memory of what went on but a thorough search on Pinkbike, NSMB (if the thread survived the shutting down and reopening of their forums) and MTBR should reveal more. Note that this has nothing to do with patents (there is no way you could get a patent on any triple triangle frame design).
