try the specialized p2 07, you could get it for around that price..

An '07 Norco 250 would be perfect. The RRP is $1399. You might be able to get it for $1299 then you would have $200 to spend on ugrades (if you want them).
Other than that you could get an STP1:rolleyes:

hey mate,
i ride a 2007 STP 1. i have had it for 3 days now, and its perfect. i love riding it, its smooth as. i would agree in buying the 1 over the 2 because with more money you pay, the longer it should last and the components are better.
Go the STP 1

Have a read of this (http://forums.farkin.net/showthread.php?t=50454), I'd probly go with the stp 1, everyone has them...there has to be a good reason why; best spec for the price range, go down to your local bike shop and they will tell you the same thing.
i like dirt
19-09-2006, 12:58 PM
hey grab a 2007 STP 1 they're great value for money and are the specs are pretty good for the price your paying. my friend has one and its bloddy awesome. it's light as the only change i would make to it would be to put a stronger wheelset on like the mag intense 30s and maybe a different fork.

I think that I've already posted this, but get a P1 or if you must have gears a P2, both within your budget! I had an 06' P1 and was a sweet ride!

Norco 125 is the way to go, it can do everything and more. although then the first upgrade you do should be forks

I'm riding a UMF Hardy 2, good value for money and they're tough as. Haven't had a problem with it since I got it in May, whereas my mates STP2...
Anyway, check 'em out- http://advancetraders.com.au/products.php?action=viewProduct&catid=13&brandid=1&id=405
They're pretty unknown, so you might have to work a bit to find a dealer, but ti's been excellent for me so far

well 07 stuff is out so all the 06 stuff has to go right.. i would go to ur lbs and look at 06 stp 0s as u have seen them on sale down to 1550 which is 50 bucks over ur budget but its money worth spending so yeh go look for them and you will not regret it

have a look at a few bike shops and if you could strech your budget a bit you could probably get a stp 0 for around 1600 to 1800 and they are mad bikes.
but if you go to bike addiction, im sure they could get you a cheaper price on a STP0 (right guys???)

I Picked up a 07 STP 0 for $1700 and it a mad bike,Smooth Ride,Real Light, and awsome for jumping, the 07 STP 0 is the way to go. Or you can probaly get the 06 model a bit cheaper, the only Real diff is the 07 model has a E13 STS chain guide with E13 supercharger bash ring. The 0 is the way to go.

yer i ride a stp1 along with everyone else(although mine is a 06), i'd recommend it to any one it is a great bike, But i was PO'd wen the 07 bikes came out 3 months later, and find out how much better they are now with all the new up grades and stuff, so go with a stp:)

OH MY GOD MAN!!! i just had a look at this thread and everyone has stps!!! they really are the hoars of mountain biking like that guy said, i still recon you should go for the norco 250 or the one25, the 07 models, be different from everyone else man and DONT!!! get a stp. have you had a look at the kona stuff or scrap? they feel nice to jump coz i got the shred and the frames are the same
thats my opion anyway

I have never owned an STP but if I had $1900 right now I would put it straight on an STP 0 simply because of the absolute value of the componentry package that I can use later on another frame. The bike rides well enough on its own, and if really were a shit bike then there wouldn't be that many out there - quantity sold speaks volumes.

You should take a look at the latest Australian Mountain Biking Mag (sorry to the moderators if im not allowed to give them a plug on the site), If you can stretch you budget just a little. I don't know why people bag the STP, they are an awesome bike. But I do agree that everyone now have got one (thats because they are so good) I myself ride a Da bomb Molotov that I built up from the frame so I could add my own personnel touches. But for an off the shelf bike you cant look past the stp.:D

have a look a around for a bike from last year thats on special, if it has good components, such as hayes FX9's, avid juicys, sram, shimano etc etc but is lacking a decent frame or forks, buy the bike then upgrade, ive seen 07 stp frame's on here for $250.
say the bike cost you $1000, new or s/h forks $200 frame $300 theres your $1500 limit and you may have a better bike then you could of bought new.
it pays to look around;)

i'd probaly have to say either an stp 1 or a second hand stp0 or even a kona scrap... but if u get the kona scrap change the forks to dj 3's or if u got a 20mm hub mabye even 2's
the parts wont last longer on the stp1 then the 2, i have the 2 race Dh and trash it off drops basically and the only part ive had to replace is the seatpost bolt, imo the 1 isnt worth the extra $500, the 0 is worth the extra money though but not the 1

definately go the stp's amb rated them the best bikes, i had an 2005 stp1 n i loved it but i got the 07 stp 0 about 2 weeks ago n it is awsome but a bit outta your price range but if you wanna upgrade later it would be cheaper to get the 0, id advise the stp1 you will love it and if youre doing dj's and street yhen get the 13.5 inch frame but ive youre doing 4x get the 14.5 inch as said by amb

Says the man who reccomended the STP in this thread
I'm pondering over which bike i should get, what one would benefit me?
Norco Bigfoot? ($1090)
Kona Shred? ($990)
Giant STP 2? ($890)
And I am just starting dirt jumping but have experience with bikes.
Yeah if youre looking at something light go the STP, But for fuck sake dont do something to make it stand out from everyone elses like all people say, they look good as they are.
Only problem is matty_101 I lost some of your post, but I think I got it all back together:D
Nah, the STP is a common response and alot of people do have them,
buuuuuut
1. Some people cant afford anything different
and
2. Answering the thread, even though I ride an STP 0 with your budget I would go for a bike in the P.Series. I was seriously considering getting a P.2 and If I only had a budget of $1700 I would have got one over the STP 1, It feels alot nicer and you may be able to get it down to a price of $1500.
My 2 cents.
Cheers, Sam:cool:

Ahahahahahaha, i cant even remember posting that. i guess i seem like a pretty big hypocrite right now, but i said that they were light, i never said that they were good bikes, as a matter of fact, they are good bikes but i fucking hate them with every ounce of being that i have in my sexy, chisseled, immaculately presented body. yeah i said it, what ya gonna do. But i agree, the p. series is a good idea, my mate has the p.3 and theyre pretty decent

wow stp is really popular in Oz. Here in Canada its all about the custom bikes b/c everyone wants something different. However the biggest sellers are the Norcos.
before you buy please consider the following bikes
.243 DH/FR
block 8
DMR trailstar
Identiti 666x or Dr Jekyll or Mr Hyde
Fireeye
Norco 250 or 416
Simtra psycho
Black Market MOB
Doberman Pinscher or Molosse
Transition Vagrant, Trail or Park
that should help you decide.

it depends on what type on riding you want to do. The stp range aren't really that good for skate parks and the dirt jams that come on the stp's tend to have a reputation of topping and bottoming out. Norco are by far the best value. the norco two50 and 416 are great for parks and dirt jumps while theres the shore free ride rangd which are great for trails.

if your an allrounder get a sasquatch or manik but if your just jumping get a stp or ruckus because norco make jump bikes with too long top tubes (seeing as they still design these frames for north shore style riding)
