The amount of money you'd have to spend to get an STP2 to the level the STP Zero is at is much more than the $800 or so more than the STP Zero costs.

Just get the Zero and upgrade the rims.

Theres nothing wrong with rhyno lites, your better off spending your money on something useful like a chainguide to keep your chain from jumping off or go single speed if it suits your needs.

Yep.
What gets me is why people recommend STPs, and then when people buy them they say "OMFGZORSTPPOZERZORBBQ!!!ONESHIFTEXLAMATIONMARK!!ON E"

Catch-22 ;)

The rims are not the worry, it is the hubs.

yea i think you will find you will have problems with the hubs, allmost everyone i know that rides an stp has this problem. so spend then money on some new hubs, because ryhno lites and a set of decent hubs is a pretty strong wheelset no matter what other people think. and your only 40kg so i cant see you doing anything to them.

Yer, I own a STP Zero. The rims are sick. Strong light and look sexc. Ride smooth and you won't have to replace them with Mag30's;)

Hubs are pretty good aswell. My rear hub has had its problems. Don't bother replacing the front hub. Maybe invest in a good quality rear hub.

with that amount of money to spend i would definatly go the STPO by a long shot. They are a sweet bike for the money.:p

yes even a tuffneck hub will do the trick that is assuming you want to go ss, my deore hubs have lasted about 3 months of spine to flat and there still okay there just not clicky

Whats catch 22 mean?

Catch 22 was a regulation in the 2nd world war in the US army. It said that if a soldier was insane he was entitled to get out of the army. However, since so many people claimed insanity, trying to get out of the army, it showed that they were sane therefore could not get out. So the insane ones were the guys trying to stay in the army which meant that they could not get out anyway. So more or less it means lose-lose.

^^^^^wow well said dude  ^^^^^

I would go the STP0 - the spec cant be beaten for the price

Go the STP zero - best value hardtail for that price. Make sure you get the 13.5" frame (S) (unless you are >6 foot tall). Give the change to someone to hold so that when you do break stuff like the rear hub, derailleur, etc. then you can upgrade. If you later want to go boutique, then you have all the components to put on any frame of your choice.

It's the combined value of the components that makes the bike such a good buy - here are the approximate local retail prices:
$320 -E13
$285 per end - Avid Juicy5
$1000 (?$900) - Pikes
$420 - TruVativ Holzfeller
$85 - X7 derailleur
$65 - X7 shifter
$70 - EA50 bar
$140 - Easton stem
$95 - SDG saddle
$$ - wheels

when i bought my stp0 i sold the drivetrain and front brake to make it ss and made around 500 bucks out of it which almost covered the cost of my new wheelsets so yes they are such good value

The '07 Scott YZ0 lmt. reatils for around $2400. If you can get that down to $2200 definately take it over the STP0.

get the 0 and you can always upgrade later :)

upgrading a bike when you first get it is pointless

(i am referring to buying them brand new as far as my opinions go)
