I really dislike having to push so hard & far with my thumb to shift into a bigger ring with the front sram x7 shifter.
So I was wondering - are sram x9 & x0 triggers the same - requiring the same amount of thumb effort? The rear shifter is fine - a quick push & click.

The other options would be a bit weird - getting a shimano shifter of sorts for the front (I've got a front deore derailleur) and keeping the sram x7 for the rear.

Do you think sram twist shifters would be the most viable option otherwise?

And lastly - what would a set of 2nd hand x7 trigger shifter be worth if I was to sell my current ones? - good condition only had the bike since April.

Cheers.

X-9 are the same and have the same throw, just a different body. X-0 have an adjustable position of the lever so that you can bring it forward to make it easier. They should solve your problems but they're expensive.

Yep, a twist shifter works fine. A fair few riders use that mix for a quick and easy front throw, that also allows for microadjustment in case of chain rub on the mech

I finally switched to a X9 twist shifter after I brought on for $10 off ebay (don't have a front shifter any more either).

It's Wonderful! I am a Sram Twist shift convert.
For me it seems so much more natural to twist forward if I want to shift up and twist back to shift down.

Before you do anything try lubing your shifter cable.

Toss it in the big ring then, without pedalling, shift to the little ring. the chain will hold the derailleur off the inner stop, allowing enough slack in the cable that you'll be able to free the two bits of outer from the stops.

Slide 'em off where they usually live and give the cable normally covered a good wipe with a rag. Then, as you slide the outer back into place, dribble some wet lube on the inner cable just where it's dissapearing into the outer.

When you've got a bunch of lube in there, slide the outter back and forward a bunch of times and wipe off any black crap that appears (note: if it is black you should probably replace your cables, inner and outer.

Apply a final dose of lube, as above, reinstall the outers and wipe any excess lube from the exposed inner while running the shifter through its paces.
