Just a little reminder that the Sydney Single Speed Championship of the Universe is on this sunday out at the MWMTB track at Arcadia. Registration is from 9:15 with a race start of 10:00am.
With Liamo apparently out & about ripping his own legs off on a double imperial century Mr Pants reckons he's the man to take the inaugural crown even against Aiden Leffman whom he described as a "lightweight"
There's a full range of support races with the MWMTB Club Championship being held on the same day, so after the SSSotU make sure you come & see me for an appropriate beverage and we'll find some where to jeer the elite geared freaks on.

Well when you're 80ish Kg, any of those XC kiddies are decidely lightweight.:p

Ah ha, yeah.
The singlespeed is still in the garage in pieces having been stripped after the 12 hour. Gues I should get of here and build it up :o
Its a SS, shouldn't take more than an hour, thats the beauty of it all:D

Done.
I'll be there on Sunday.
p.s. What is the inside word on ratios? 2:1 not quite tall enough?

If I promise not to change gears can I enter?

If I promise not to change gears can I enter?
Yes, provided you have a bike with only one gear. If not then long as we get to cut and/or remove your gear cables you can race. Pending discussion on the start line, there may be a ruling on what gear you get to run.

This is sounding more interesting all the time. Maybe I'll ride my Roelhoff with the gear changer disconnected.

No this is a local race for local people. The Australian Champs are on the end of October near Canberra. I'll dig up the links for that shortly.

For the ASSC06 keep an eye here (http://www.sydbma.org/assc06/)
I'll be there on SundayI'll be tagging along! Although, having only finished building the new bike this arvo I'm almost guaranteed to DNF from a mechanical or unfamiliar-handling-related crash
Drivetrain niggles means I'm on a pretty low gear (38:21, 1.8:1), but that'll probably be beneficial for my current state of disgustingly poor fitness.

He was just checking my length, stem length that is...:o 120mm phwooor!;)
I was even happier once a beer was thrust into my hand, it was just a bit hot out there!
12. Rik Isaksen .......DNF (OTB - Crash of the dayWow, I was so stuffed I forgot about that?! Or not ;) I just pulled out to avoid a potential heart attack or respiratory system failure. No crashes, sorry :)
Cheers for the beers guys, next time will be just as fun I hope, and maybe I can do more than one lap without dying a painful death. 6 months off the bike, oporto for breakfast and an obscenely hot day didn't help though.

Lycrafilled startlinephoto (http://singlespeed.smugmug.com/photos/97488830-L.jpg)
From what I can see, there is a lot of lycra going on in that photo.
what is up with that? - I think I even saw someone chomping on some Gu on the start line.... bad SSer form!
Was there even a beer lap shortcut for the truecore 1FGers? At least it was hot enough to have the pretty flowers wilting
I wonder what the SSnats will be like - startgrids and subclauses to the rules?
Lance :)

Lycra is just nudity with colour.

In that heat I wanted to do nude laps but Neil wouldn't let me:(
And Dunk had to take his shorts off after a lap. Quote "Oooooh me spuds is boilin'!"

Lycra is just nudity with colour.
I didn't realise it was the Sydney Single Speed SausageFest Championship of the Universe though.
At least now I can understand why there is an issue getting equl numbers of girls to compete in MTB races. With or without the colour, lycra on SSers is wrong. :)

That's funny, i think there were more girls at the race than i'd ever seen at a MTB event before:)
Good race MWMTB, very trying conditions to do a barbie/timing/rego in. I personaly would not have trusted that shitty old shed as far as i could throw it in wind like that though!
thanks alchemist for not posting those photos;)

My bike is working nicely now.. changed the gear ratio slightly (went up to a 2:1) and the chain tension is finally there - no more weak chain links either:).. too bad it wasn't that way during the race! :(
Ok, while I have the attention of the SSers, a simple question for a noob.
How many teeth difference on the chain ring can a tensioner like a singleator take up ?
For instance, can it do a total of 6 teeth difference on the chainring - does that translate to just 3 on the chain since it halves ?
Sorry, this is a bit hard to understand? Singleators will take up the slack left over from reducing the chain to the shortest length possible. The Singleator does have a maximum cog size of 24T. All the info here http://www.surlybikes.com/files/NewSingleatorInfo.pdf
How many teeth difference on the chain ring can a tensioner like a singleator take up ?Are you talking about changing chainring or sprocket size whilst keeping the same chain length, and relying on the tensioner to take up the chain slack?
Hmm, from my experience you'll have ALOT of trouble running with this idea, all tensioners except the DMR TS2 (fantastic!) have a limited range of spring tension and sometimes you'll even struggle to find a gear combo to work within that range, let alone adding the variable of changing combinations.
If I'm reading this right and you want to have switchable ratios with a singlespeed setup, it'll take alot of effort (I have done that though, it was interesting), and it's probably not worth wasting time on.

Paul's Melvin tensioner can take up a little more slack than most too...mmmm.
Anyway, cheers to the organisers, had a fun day, despite the heat and pain. And cheers for the beers at the end of the race.
Must get up to Fiddletown more often

the best way to take up chain slack without shortening your chain when changing ratios is by using a new fangled do-dad called a derailleur and cassette.:p
