Hey Girls,
I have had an offer from CTMTB, Lithgow, to put on a Chix Clinic. They are wanting to get some feedback from you all on whether you would like to have one in early January.
Craig Flynn from the Club has said, and I quote:
"We have 2 short couse DH tracks out at our XC course. They're basically very tame but can be a lot of fun. They use mostly bit's of our 8hr track so nothing extreme.
We've had riders as young as 8 race there and last race had a chick race on a giant NRS so any bike is fine.
If you are keen and think it will help get girls into it let me know any we'll see what we can arange.
Maybe we can do a short skills clinic in the morning (or day before) then do a couple of timed runs. Tracks are only 1 to 1.5km long and it takes 5 min to push back to top."
If you are interested please post here so that we can see what level of interest is out there and plan accordingly.
Thanks :D

It sounds like they might think wee girls are a little too precious. This track sounds a little boring and "precious". Hey, we are girls but I assume we're capable of hiting most cross country mtb courses. Why else are we looking at this site!!

Well, actually, yes a lot of women are and that is why there are so few in downhill and more in cross country.
They are not being condescending, let me get that straight from the start, but they are trying to encourage women by starting with the easy stuff first to give them confidence and, more importantly, the skills to ride, enjoy it and come down safely. Doesn't happen all the time believe me.
If it's boring then don't come or if you do then have someone shuttle you up the main mountain. Thats the one where they choppered a boy out with back injuries at the States in May. This is not a wimps sport and injuries happen and all they are trying to do is lessen that possibility.:)

Sorry for posting in the girls forum but just to set it straight, we race DH on these tracks. They are not boring. Just a good intro to Dh for those who don't normally race DH. It is also easier to run stuff out there as it's all set up and doesn't need transport, so much cheaper.
The idea wasn't to dumb down girl racing nor to minimise inruries.
The reasosn for suggesting the Lidsdale trails was
A)ease of oragnising with heaps of trails to choose from.
And
b)it is a fun intro to DH. I wanted to appeal to those girls who may not have considered DH before or who have but were intimidated by the usual race scene.
Will that appeal to the hardcore DHer and those already into racing? I don't know, I like racing there as do most of my club members including the elite riders. It's actually hard to race them as there are a lot of flat corners that need a level of skill to get around fast.

If you'd rather use the state mine track then the offer still stands. Also it doesn't have to be January, that was just a window when we had time.
If you still think they are boring and we are being condisending and precious that's cool I won't bother, no skin off my nose.

Well I am interested because I am up for any help I can get!! I desperately want to have a go at DH (and be good at it) coz, well, to put it bluntly... I HATE HILLS! So I've crossed XC off the list :) haha

Whilst I have no interest in racing downhill it sounds like it would be a fun weekend. I sux at cornering and jumps and I think a weekend at Lithgow would help improve my skills and make me a better XC racer.

January is out for myself and Pine_Forest_Princess...
We would be interested if it didn't clash with something already on and we are in the country.

Now now, don't worry about the odd nose out of joint. There are a number of us who would like a less intimidating intro to downhill and considering the views I've had from a number of people on the State Mines for beginners I think the other track sounds great.
The whole idea of no one bombing down behind me at great speed yelling at me to get out of the way sounds wonderful.
Lets see what the majority thinks and go from there. Oh, and thanks for the offer, lovely that you and the club would go to the trouble for us.:D

Yeah... But... Some of it is!! :p I refuse to do hills!! *thinks she might install a motor for her bike* haha nah I'm just not as fit as I thought I was... I blame Fi for taking me up the Ingar Trail and not warning me about the massive incline that never seemed to end!! Btw Fi my arm has kinda healed since that ride. Hmmzz (I think I need to start a stacked-it counter! I'd be up to about a thousand now..! j/k)

Hey that hill was news to me too! But the downhill made it worthwhile ... didn't it?!! Glad to hear your arm is better.

Hell yeah the downhill was worth it!! But I just wish it was the other way around... Finishing off on the downhill would have been much more pleasant!!!
I can't believe that you rode up that hill. I wouldn't even want to walk it without my bike! I am still in awe!!
