Should do a black to purple or midnight blue fade, mate had a similliar paint job on his bmx and it was mint. He then colour-coded it so the front wheel, bars and stem match the black while the rear wheel, sprocket, seat, chain and cranks matched the purple - made awesome piccies aswell - I'll see if I can find some.

What colour were you thinking of going next?

It's definitely interesting man. Remember, you posted it for feedback, and it just so happens the majority aren't fans. you gotta take that. doesn't mean people dislike you, just the paint choice on your transport. Personally I don't really like 2tones either, unless there's a sharp edge between colours, but props for trying it out man.

hubbie if you don't get a campillo in raw, then i will personally come up to wherever you live and bitchslap you.

thanks for all the kind words in r.e. to my bike guys, taken to heart.

my only concern now is whether there's any coating. cos i'm not riding it around completely bare. It would rust crazy up here. with a campillo I would save 780g off my current frame, taking it down to 10.9kg with gyro and 2 pegs, plus I'll get wombolts at the same time, so don't know how much they'll save me. epoch

del

Campillo's are sooooo sweet. I have a 3 amigos, the campillo is pretty much identical geo to that i believe. real nice feeling frame. fly has some really great frames this year.

Cameo

There'd be some sort of coating over the raw, there'd have to be. That would just be stupid on Fly's behalf, and I don't think that Fly's a stupid company.

clean pimpin Del! I saw a campillo on Bmxforum, and had a light coat of dusty rust, so it looked like it was uncoated. I pm'd him, and haven't got a reply yet. I'll call chris at 666 on monday and find out.

Photoshopped this yesterday, to convince myself to get the raw one. white just didn't look nearly as good.

(original was Kalkoff's. Of course i'll have brakes.)
http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/8318/rawma0.jpg

EDIT: Are anno'd rims good for braking and do they lose colour? can't remember. I was thinking 2 purple rims would look far better, and i'll be doing a new rear wheel fairly soon, as well as the front rim.

I am pretty sure the proper rims lose their colour fairly quickly with brakes, but brakes work ok with the fly rims my mate has. The silver sort of strip you get around the rim doesn't look that bad IMO.

Campillo's are out of stock for a few months! search continues. and Purple colony stems were limited run and out of stock too. So i'm getting black wombolts, but i have to find a new frame, and purple stem. Thoughts so far are Subrosa armada in raw, fly pantera 3 in raw or Mutiny mystic in white.

I got Fly brakes on saturday too. I've never run fly brakes, but i hear they flex more than evolvers. Anyone have an opinion. and if I get a fly frame, am I much better off with fly brakes? I'm running 30-10, so clearance isn't an issue if i'm to run evolvers. I'll sell the evolvers or fly's, and put the money towards new parts. which am i better off with, considering the fly's will sell for more?

Also, has 'Ross painted his bike yet? I want to see it.

I've run both the Fly's and Odsy's with Koolstops and they both performed pretty sweet. Fly's seemed to flex a lot when tyre stalling and stuff like that. Dont get me wrong, Odsy's were good too, but I liked the fly's a lot better when they were set up properly... *cough goldcross cough*

I'd run the fly's.

P.S watch out for the springs on the Fly's.;)

would you be able to buy whatever stem you were after, then strip the anodising using over cleaner and then paint the stem with the stain glass type spray paint they have at bunnings so it then looks nice and pretty?

couldnt you also just buy a frame and then raw it so the amount of frames available to you is larger!?

I bought some of that oven cleaner this morning. works ok, but i'm using it on brown anodizing which is some of the hardest stuff, so it's pretty good. I haven't seen purple glass stain yet, and i'd rather just buy it purple. theres plenty of purple stems available, I was just hanging out for a colony one, and i don't think they ever came back in stock. same with frames, sure i could just buy any frame, but i've done it before, and i want to buy it as is. aerosol clear coat doesn't protect very well. I just want to buy it as is.

Theres several options i'm considering for both, it's just making my mind up that's hard. I'm not limited for choices.

ok i now have no idea on what to get
i was first thinking the dehart... but then read that it is nothing special and that fly is much better then fit... so then started looking at the flys and have noticed that they have a higher stand over then the fits...

So i have narrowed it down to these four in order of price:
eddie/dehart/luna/campillo

leaning towards the eddie or the luna.... but i really don't know any more.

24-06-2008, 05:09 PM
well it's comparably higher. the pantera being 8 and the campillo being 8.3. You just mentioned you wanted low standover. I thought the luna would be close to your sunday.

del
24-06-2008, 05:09 PM
Dehart is better than the eddie IMO, especially if you're using pegs. I'm really not a fan of the eddie, it doesnt really have any outstanding features, and too thin dropouts for pegs. didnt like the dehart much either, but its got a really nice feel once i rode it. I really like fly frames. lunas are awesome, the 20.4 has highest standover of all the fly frames, steep front end and short rear!! the campillo is a VERY light frame but realy nice geo, if i were to buy a new frame at this instant, it would be a campillo.

get something the size of the spindle, make sure it's bigger than the hole you thread the bolt into! Put that on (preferably a peice of wood/rubber to avoid damage to your spindle) and tap it with a hammer.

If you don't want to do that, just try wiggling it like crazy, i've got mine off a few times doing that.

nice phillerp.

when i get new cranks, I'm RHD at the moment, but plan on switching to LHD when i replace the back wheel within a couple of months. Seeing as wombolts are LHD and RHD specific, am i better to get LHD's for now and run them backwards till new wheel? does anyone run their cranks backwards and have any probs?

hubbie

potentially, but they're done up pretty tight, and i've heard of people running cranks backwards before. really, i'd think there'd have to be a fair bit of friction in the pedal bearings to undo it.

I'm hoping end of next week, but maybe 2 weeks from now. I want Wombolts and my purple profile acoustic stem before it goes together. Ordered the stem last wednesday, and it was on a max. 3 week backorder from the distributor, as long as it actually comes in that shipment. then wombolts is a matter of finances, whether i sell some gear, and find enough to do it, or i'll be able to afford it by pay-day in a fortnight at the latest.

I'd rather do it all in one whack, and it'll feel that much nicer. Then in a month or two I should be able to do my new LHD back wheel, and that'll be my bike pretty much dialled.

Anyone know of purple rims that don't lose their colouring from braking? does such a rim exist? might just stick to chrome.

Quiz time.
My new frame is meant to use 7degree seatstay brakes. I have 14degree Fly's and 0degree Odyssey Evolver 1's. what should I run? Fly's will look kinda odd being bent too far, but are far lighter than the evos. anyone want to swap fly chainstays for fly seatstays?

Do anno'd rims wear any worse from brakes, than black ones? thinking about rim combo's. I'll put a purple proper on the front, and would like one on the back, but they won't be as strong as a 7ka, and might look horrible with worn colouring. I should just go brakeless! hahaha. If only. I need my brakes.

in the future im going to get a bigger rear tyre and im hopefully looking at a new rear wheel, something along the lines of a g-spot or a 7ka, or whatever rim that comes in black and doesnt lose colour quickly if i decide to go back to brakes.

maybe some new cranks and better pegs if i get the chance...
