We went riding in the rain today (saturday) at Gap Creek in Kenmore (brisbane). What fun! There were puddles everywhere and they were super muddy ones too! The tracks were awsome, cos you actually stuck to them! And the burnt off area (dirt girls and pony express) was great cos you could see everything and if you went off track BY ACCIDENT, it wasn't a prob! The only thing that actually sucks about riding in the mud is that u can't ride as long cos you'll damage your bike! :( Anyone else go riding or are you all pussy's that stayed home and said it's too cold and wet?

Edit here: I changed the wording.... Just so you guys DON'T think i actually DID go off the trails, i didn't. I ment it was SOO clean of shrubs and what not, you COULD ride straight through... but where would be the fun in that... AND it isn't a good idea cos of the damage it does... are we clear now?

I know I'm gonna sound like a greeny/hippy here but you should always stick to the trails, espcially after fires have gone through.

Riding in the wet/mud is great fun untill you gotta get your BB serviced and notice the big puddle sitting in it

was great cos you could basically go off track and throught the trees, cos there wasn't any shrubery!

um yeah, if you don't wanna to ride the single track go find a fire road to ride down and stop distroying trails but cutting corners. the trails are/were designed that way for a reason, weather it be to help stop erosion or to simply make the tracks more challenging.

i wont even get started on the topic of erosion that occurs when when you ride muddy trails, and considering there is massive fines for doing trail maintance in gap creek it's going to be a while before they are repaired again.

Ty... seriously man. I ride with Lupine... he has tought me better then that. I said you COULD basically ride through them, but i wouldn't do that. I DO care about the tracks we ride on and the areas we ride in. I mean, we could have done many more trails then just those, but i would have ment ripping them up, so we didn't. I AM a responsible person too. Don't forget that. :D

Edit: I changed my wording, it DID sound wrong didn't it?

I soo love riding in the rain! It is hte best fun but I always lack the motivation to actually get out and get wet when it is raining though..

I don't! I like the idea of being able to ride without getting too hot! And getting rained on is always a good thing!

was a fun morning.
and for those that were worried, she does know to stick to the trails, and had the "don't skid your turns" lecture VERY early in the riding carreer :D
was a little disturbing to see just how many people didn't mind tearing up the trails tho. remember folks, if you trash it, walk back and fix it.
and now i have to do full strips on 3 bikes .... i suck.
but i do love riding in the rain.

lupine: $5000 fine for trail work in gap creek, just remember that (ask Gillian about it)

yeah, i know about the fine.
personaly i'd rather risk the fine for refilling a skid mark than let it go, and then watch the next 4 people make it larger.
if i slide out or crash, i almost always go back and check i haven't left huge holes anywhere. at least that way, the trail will stay in it's current condition for longer.

Riding is great fun in the rain...

AHHH!!! I want to be out riding soo baddly except on thursday arvo i was playing rugby and tackled some guy and my neck like bent sideways and i heard cracking noises :? That nite it was really unbelievably painful, next morning went to physio and now i cant go riding for a week :( At least its rainging so riding wont be as good.....but then again water and mud seems very tempting....

I dunno I hate mud. I only really like riding in dust dry conditions. I konw it's alot slipper but i like getting to the bottum and being dust but dry and stuff rather than muddy and wet. I dunno a also love riding down DH in the dry, hot, dust cause when i get the chance, which is very rarley so i dont fuck myself over, to turn around for a second and look at the dust cloud thats flying away after a Nail a burm or on a straight section where i see a little trail of dust following me. I dunno everything needs cleaining after a muddy ride you get heaps tireder, have to make sure you dont dirty everything up. Dust is just so much better In my opinion cause you can just ride all day in it and not be ultra wet, cold, muddy and need to fuly clean your bike. But no i didnt ride today i have been fixing my bike. And uput my new shifters and levers on (LX) . The only probalem being my snapped hanger hanst come in yet so i dont have anything to shift. Have to still get the chain into like 2/6 or somthing so I can ride twomorrow.

Dusty is awesome especially on dirt jumps cuz you can look back at the pack and just see dust everywhere and riders busting through the dust

LOVE IT!

yea yea and then you discover the jumps you are riding are built on top of an old Tannery site and the dust is full of arsenic... hooray for arsenic!

ar·se·nic ( P ) Pronunciation Key (ärs-nk)

Rain is fun, spending the next week cleaning your bike isn't. Since I'm so pedantic, and love to have a showroom-new look to my bike, I avoid any form of moisture because I hate doing complete stripdowns.

what happend with the jumps creppy? are yous all dead yet? nah jks!! that would suck to know, also it would suck to get slugged with a 5k fine for doing trail maintainence. just run like shit and dont get caught!! or take out the ranger with your trusty shovel (just nock him out). btw mud races are mental.... like when its pouring and your up the top and its freezing and its pouring and your waiting for 45 minutes to have your run. then you have your run, fall off every 5 seconds. but hey its fuN! thats my blabbering on for tonight.

I was talking hypotheticaly about the jumps, but the primary school I attended was found to have been built on an old tannery and had above a safe amount of arsenic in the soil and look how I turned out (<<<see avatar)!

Let this be a lesson to you kids, eating soil in the playground while may at first appear tastier than the "TuckShop"s vegemite sandwich that they gave you because they ran out of sausage rolls, can actually be detrimental to your physical and mental well-being.

The only time my bike gets a clean is when its raining!

back in the 'old country' rain, mud and more rain is standard riding weather, Riding on Saturday was fantastic due to the fact it was also warm.

Get over it and git ridin

(yes I was the nudist MTBer at Gap creek on Saturday)
