Just heard that some low life has pulled apart all the pallets and destroyed the jumps from the start ramp to the rock garden.
I noticed that the pallet in the drop out of the new bus stop at the bottom had been pulled out of place on Wednseday and thought someone must have stacked and knocked it out of position, looks like some one is playing funny buggars.
Anyway, if anyone is planning on riding the track take care for now.
A maintanence day will be organised soon to rectify the damage.

Maybe all the wingy, bitchy, opinionated people behind there computers should get off there soapboxes and do something positive for the sport for once and get up there and fix the track that they all love to ride, and give Flynny, Skinny etc a hand....and a rest....!!!!!!
I have never seen so many 'experts' regarding building, hosting a race event....put something back into the sport or shut the fluff up.............

looks like it was planned
who ever did it would have taken a while
and a fair bit of effort
I don't think it could have been someone
who just stumbled upon the track

Whoever did it, that kind of shit is low.
Always puzzles me why people go to so much effort to screw with other peoples fun.

Pretty sure the guys who burnt the road gap down were a bunch of moto guys who stumbled across the track. By the sounds of it this was far more organised.

Bloody idiots.....
Wouldn't it be nice to know that people would prefer to maintain a race track rather than destroy some of it's features.
I've heard of things in the past where some people are unable to ride a section so they either change it to suit them or wreck it altogether. In most cases, it is usually the people who aren't as confident on a bike or have no idea about what it takes to build and maintain some sections. Could this be a case of some local riders not liking the obstacles on their home track and wanting to make it better for them?
I haven't seen the damage and I don't like the sounds of it regardless of the circumstances. If the people who did the damage are people who ride and race often then they should be ashamed and kicked out of the sport. We don't want people like that near us.
I hope you get them Flynny and I hope they like sore shoulders from the work you'll make them do and the punches they get.
Grow up you stupid clowns, no one thinks you are funny.

I wouldn't think its any local riders
they all love the track and
know how much hard work has gone into it
willo
03-11-2006, 09:34 AM
I don't think it was anyone trying to make the track easier for themselves as some/most of the affected areas are unridable.
We rode it yesterday and it was v. dangerous as you come around a corner and aim up for a jump and there wasn't one there or there was a log in the way etc
looks like some dickhead set out to hurt someone

sorry to hear about the track guys, shit like that pisses me off no end:mad: .
you will eventually find out who it is, people like that always talk about the "cool" stuff they have done. word will get around or you will catch them in the act and when you do i hope they regret every second of it.

Has there been problems with overley extreme conservationists? From the comments that it seemed like it was organised, I have my doubts that a group of vandals would go to that much effort.
To be bothered to go there and walk all the way along that track and wreck the features you'd have to have what you thought to be a good reason.
or maybe people just have too much time on their hands.
Sh*t go though. Did they even knock down that big jump near the top?

Has there been problems with overley extreme conservationists?
Not really. There was one guy kicking up a stink about us destorying the gully for lyre birds, until he bothered to actually go up the gully and realised we hadn't wholesale bulldozed it and that the lyre birds were happily nesting and digging up the side of the track.
Other than that we haven't had any complaints or experienced any I hate MTBers in the area in the 3 years it's been running.

Hey Flynny
Maybe it's the local Ambo's (ha-ha)
It's their way of getting back at us for making them walk up and down the track all weekend.
(just kidding, bored at work and it's almost home time)

Sucks to hear it... Will be back in about three weeks, and can lend a hand then.
While driving I dealt with few groups of abusive moto riders cutting busses off, and such farkin intelligent things over the course of shuttling the two days - there was more traffic than usual... Apparently by the way they waved and smiled on the way through, all but one of their fingers were cramped from the extreme terrain on the shuttle track. I hate pointing the blame, but it's a slim possibility a few came back...
Know any of the locals riders up there?
what about bush walkers etc? there was some trouble in canberra here a year or so ago on mt ainslie with bush walkers taking their whinging to the next level and trapping tracks and things like that. if theres people who regularly walk in the area and decide they dont want you guys there anymore it wouldnt be hard for them to trash the trail as they go along. just a possiblity, as i dont know the area

I think it has to be related to the race and the numbers that attended. There's too much coincidence with the timing for it not to be. Motos have to be the prime suspects so far.

Hmmm be sure before voicing acusations. Don't need to wind them up if it wasn't them.
What about a rail dude worried about getting sued after the accidents?
Are the guys in those houses you drive past at the bottom cool with the track.
Possibly just a local thinking this big event would be happening more often.
Although the Motto guys do appear to be the biggest suspects at the moment.
If anyone ever talks to any Motto riders see if you can sus out if they have jobs, although I suppose it could of been done after work.
I don't really have any ideas, just flowing some thoughts.

i think so cameras should b installed, i no this isnt really a cost effective idea but in many ways it could help, if the people were caught could they be charged with vandalism?

that is a real shame!
i really dont see how people could do that sort of thing!!
and the track was awsome for nats last weekend so its a real bummer that skinny, Flynny etc putr so much work into the track before the race then a week later its been vandalised!?

Definately not. we have a great relationship with the State Mine guys and at some stages through the year they were asking us to hold more races and get more people there as their visitation was down and they were struggling to pay a few bills.
We help them out were we can when they hold events and they were the ones marshalling the car park and emptying bins and the like. They have expressed nothing but good will since we opened the track and can't do enough for us.
As for resisdents. When we put in a DA for the MtnX track across the road expressions of concern were called fromthe public. The only reply was from the State mine guys who requested it be approved and built asap, if not across the road then somewhere on their land.
The motos are foreruners at the moment, especially as they made threats to that effect.
The fact that a large MTBO comp was held the same day further up on the plateau may have fired their frustrations as a large patch of forest would have be sterilised for that. We are fairly certain it happened between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday 1pm so that points to people from the local area.
Damn shame if it was motos as, being a small town, we generally get along well together. Many of the trails we maintain are popular with motos, especially in the pine forests and while we have sometimes asked motos to take it easy and not spin the wheel when we see them on the trails in the lead up to a race we've never told them to piss off and not ride the trails.
We'll continue to make inquiries. I wonder if they could be charged with public endangerment or something similar.

Actually, there was another group of moto's that went by a few times. The last time they rode by me as I walked along the fire road, I copped a back load of roost from two of them. I thought two of the bikes were WR's and the other may have been an RMX.
It does seem there is some moto animosity out there though towards us and the track.

Yeah that sounds like the best idea. No one wins a war, we dont want to do a George Bush lol.
Another idea could be to inform the local media and police. This might make them realise the effects of what they have done.
What a pity I realy liked that top section.   Three mads from me!

We get on with the guys that run the moto club and the moto shops in town. The fact that there was a MX race at Clarance and they weren't there would suggest they are just random wankers.

Hey Craig, So sorry to hear about the vandalism. These guys don't need a reason and don't care about the consequences. Good luck, if you need help let us all know.:)
We had a local short single track of about 4-5 km which formed part of a circuit of 11km .Went down there one day and all the surrounding sapplings along the track had been snapped off /bent over all the track making it impossible to ride even for motos. Also given the trail of empty stubbies they must have been towing a trailer with an esky. This was only a short suburban track and it pissed me off to the point where I dont ride it anymore ,so in a way I guess they win, dickheads:mad:
I cant imagine the work involved in making and maintaining a national standard course and to have it vandalised would be both heart breaking and infuriating at the same time:(
Good luck with the repairs and catching the brain dead morons involved.
Cheers jon

I've had a few run-ins with some of the dickhead moto types when up riding on the Newnes Plateau.
Not all of them are like that of course - we've had a few good conversations when watching them play at the moto track out there - but there are always a couple of twats who'll roost you for slowing them down for 10 seconds.
Asshats. :(
