i have a 224
nothing ia as nimble and responsive as a 224.
v10 are tanks compared to that.
as the other guy said. try to do a few runs and definatley be prepared to change your style if the 224 is your first orange.
i personaly wouldn't get a v10.
i think there r better bikes around

Both bikes are in my top 5 favourites and equally rock.
Just depends whether you're happier to maintain more pivots and endure a tad more weight for the benefit of a plusher ride, or do you go the lighter less maintenance option with the sacrifice of 'ploughability'?
I made my choice and love it. Tin cans rawk!

Firstly you're not from Queensland, so i don't know why you'd buy a V10. That aside, the bikes are so different in terms of ride (and weight) that you couldn't have picked more extremes. I'm a plower and i went my fastest on a 223, and that doesn't go hand in hand...

well ive got a 222, witch is kinda similar to a 224 and i absolutly love the feel of it. i love everything about it, it would go a 224 over a v10 any day. just try and ride both and see what you think.

Argh, you beat me to it! I guess that's payback for beating you in your thread.:p
Personally, I prefer Oranges over V10s, to me a v10 just feels sluggish, and talk about overkill, who the f**k needs 10+ inches? It's stupid. Although the v10 has got pritty tops geo, I think i'd still go an Orange over it, much lighter, prefer the pedalling...Just a singlepivot guy i guess....

Can i ask, how come its a toss up between these too? ive been told Turners are awsome too along with Intense M1/3's and i think both those brands are just about the same $$$ range as an Orange or V10, me chosing a V10 Doesnt mean i wouldbt be caught dead on an orange, personally ive never ridden an orange so i cant speak from experience..im more just get out and ride it ...try and see if u can test these bikes somewhere or even another brand to see what u like with weight etc etc..When it comes down to it i guess its all personal prefrence cause its not ONLY the bike thats gonna make u fast its ur riding..:D
i wouldent go for a 224 just because of the cracking problems, a person i know reciently broke his 224 into 2 pices, snaped the head tube strait off and has had problems with cracks in the swing arm, hes a racer to and was pumping a dip when the headtube snaped off and resuilting in him stacking and snaping his seat post as well, i think the v10s can just hold up to a litel bit more so i would go one of them

i would have to aggre with eddy 100% on that, a guy yesterday just pumped a ditch as eddy said and the headtube snaped clean off and snapped his seat post and he has had heaps of problems with the swing arm cracking. Go the v10

Where do you ride ? If its in oz you usally come across rocky rutty unmaintained tracks yer ? The v10 plowes through all the rought stuff if thats the best line . Santa cruz bikes are so reliable ,ive had 3 at present an 06v10 . When you hear people go on about extra berings ,mantainance bla, bla, bla i have never had a problem with them there mantaince free just make sure there tight . I dont know what daver is on about ?: Does the orange still suffer brake jack ? Oh and what does Steve Pete ride ? 224 my arse .

Now now thats not entirely true, the swing arms yes, but have been dutfully replaced by citrus on warrenty with no hassles, there was a crack under the head tube, and he was waiting on a warrenty frame with no problems and i dont think he just pumped a dip and it snapped...

he also renamed it after the snap, it became a lemon
There's no shortage of cracked v10's either.
Both bikes are very good just buy the one that suits your style most. Make sure you have a ride on both before you decide.

you obviously havnt seen the 2nd gen swingarms then differnent welding and slightly differnent desigh, 3 pepole down here with 224's have had them changed and have not managed to crack them, and they dont go easy either;)

I find it quite disgusting that S-types have been specced on that thing... cheap and nasty imo. Other than that, the bike is brilliant.

The Orange is going to be a little more stable at speed. The head angle is slacker so it won't turn as well through the tight stuff but the geo is fairly adjustable. You can still run it "steepish" and tuck the rear end in. Only downside is it kicks the BB up too and makes the bike quite twitchy. The bike will go very quickly as long as you stay off the brakes. It took me a while to figure this one out. The Orange will carry you through rough stuff as long as you have the balls to hit it fast. Probably not the best option if this is ya first DH bike.
The V10 is plush. Very plush. It accelerated well and corners very nicely also. The main advantage is the linkage. It chews up rocks and roots like they aren't even there. If you don't want to pick the best line and just plow through straight ahead, go the V10. M3 I believe (haven't ridden one yet), is pretty much a V10 with a lower BB height.
If I had the money (again), I'd like to run a V10 for a while. Just that both my mates have them so I'm stuck with the orange untill I snap the headtube and swingarm or whatever.
As far as the cracking goes, I've seen a snapped orange, a snapped V10, a snapped Kona, a snapped Demo, a snapped everything. Nothing is indestuctable, except the Nicolai so far, but Daver's trying.
