I have not seen a thread reviewing Kranked 6 as yet, only launch threads.

If it has been started, please close this. Cheers.

SO what did everyone think ?

Did Peaty & Rennie steal the show ? I have watched the Fort William section (in bonus features) about 100 times now, and also Rennie in Scotland. Brilliant.

I think the whole movie was pretty damn impressive, and some amazing tracks.

Where was the crash section ? I wanted a crash section ? That would be my only gripe.

Your thoughts ?

i was just at the premiere.....or so i thought, said 6 30 start, i was there at 6 30, after 45mins of super old barjarg photos in a slideshow they got to a shit movie "Drift 3" was almost asleep at the end of it, and couldnt hear anything cos there were like no speakers. then after that ended we all got our hopes up that Kranked 6 would start..............then they started NWD 6 instead..... a few guyz got fed up n went riding, me n my mates went home very dissappointed. its about 10ish now, im hoping they started the movie for the other people still there by now.....but then again ....

The movie was a bit of a let down...

Rennie and Peaty smashing it together should've been unreal, but half of their section was in slow-mo - not cool.

I guess the cinematography was pretty well thought out and there was some ace locations with good riding, but it just seemed a little flat.

Have to agree that the Rennie/Peaty part was rather bland....

As a whole though, I thought it was quite good to watch (could have been the crowd) but why they give guys who can't string together a group of words in a coherent sentence speaking roles is beyond me...

Read 90% of the posts on this forum and you'll realise it's a targeted audience.

Standard fare for a canadihucker movie I thought. Rennie and Peat were sitting there bagging the hell out of the trail they were riding... and I had to agree with them. As Ajay said, why would you go to the trouble of filming of two of the world's fastest guys THEN PUT IT IN SLOW-MO?

BTW to the guys who left after Drift 3 - they put about TWO MINUTES of NWD on, then Kranked was put on.

Kranked 6 = Poo

I have to say though that I find all freeride movies I see these days seem to be much the same.... There's only so many times you can watch guys huck off huge stuff or ride really narrow stuff filmed on helmet cam.....

I was kinda expecting it to be boring..... And if it wasn't for the beer, bored is what i may have been.....

Nothing terrible about it, but I spent the whole time chatting to other Farkiners... so that shows just how captivating it is as a movie ;)

Rennie and Peat were sitting there bagging the hell out of the trail they were riding...I think you'll find that may have been sarcasm.

The simple guide for me when watching a MTB movie is "does this make me want to get out on my bike and hurt myself?" - the simple answer for Kranked 6 was: no.

Probably, but I thought they were right nonetheless - it was shit!

I didn't think this movie deserved to have kranked in the title considering how good the other kranked films were, especially 2 & 3 which were one of the main reasons I started riding MTB.

Ryan Leech's segment was good, the rest was boring, won't be buying this DVD.

Yeah, not overly impressed myself. Nothing has come close to super8 for a while IMO.

yeh it was kinda mediocre... the trails themselves looked awesome, but the idea of having the best riders in the video riding the most boring, visually, trail, in slow mo.. and constant shots of huckers skidding on corners.. meh didn't do much for me.
some cool riding, but I spent more time laughing at them than being blown away by their awesomness

I'd have rather watched drift 3 again

At least the Drift 3 launch had free beer :D

Not taking anything away from the guys at CBD, you did a great job! but beer > pizza, although if they were combined... :D

I'm not gonna disagree with anyone in this thread regarding the Kranked DVD as there were only 2 chapters that got my attention (Peaty & Rennie and Leech).

But I gotta ask why Drift was shit? Some of the non-racing chapers make me press the skip button, but I thought it was pretty darn good as a whole. D3 and Super 8 are the only 2 recent releases that really make me wanna get out and ride.

Oh yes, free beer is always welcome at launches.

my negative comments about drift3 is directed at the race footage itself. how many videos a year are released with footage from the same race/event?

common mtb video formula: DH race footage with the winning run shown at the end of each race section + podium footage + DHers 'goofing' about + standard trials/skatepark footage + helmet cam = mtb video.
there might be some crankworx footage in there. i think ive seen the 360 over the roadgap from 05 crankworx in 4 different videos.

and do people actually expect you to buy these dvds?

mountain biking dvds need to head in the direction that skateboard videos have been for the last 20 years. each rider having a part showing their riding. if at all possible, dont show any comp footage as we've probably seen it all before. i figure since racers are 'famous' for their racing skills, you could show their race footage from the past year. thats an easy part to fill.
NWD6 was good because it had rider parts, but it sucked because it had comp footage.

bmxers have been following the same 'formula' the past 10 or so years and it works out so well.

you could even have the 'dhers goofing off' section in between the parts.

watch Yeah Right and Baker2g (both available on youtube and video.google im sure) for what im talking about.

i think that all makes sense.

You've got to be kidding, race sections are the most entertaining sections. You can see how different riders ride sections etc. If I see Richie Schley turn his bars off a drop in Utah or Robbie Bourdon's terrible one sided-ness make him turn the wrong way off a hip one more time then I'll dead set smash the tv. Competitions show riders riding at their best so therefore I think are the best to watch. But each to their own I guess.

racing footage may be good, but do you really have to see it in every mountain bike movie release?

No, but not every release has race footage. I mean surely 10 secs of crankworx doesnt count? Anyway back on topic...

i thought super8 was a load of crap one minute it had there main run the next minute it wasent give me roam or the collective anyday the modern racing and nwd movies are going to sh*t

Ok so maybe racers like race movies and huckers like huck movies?

To me race movies are much better viewing, yes there are maybe a few to many at the moment but at least they show riders at their limits over varied terrain in all sorts of conditions.

On the other hand I haven't been impressed by any of the freeride (huck) movies I've seen lately, I mean all of it to me is just pedel pedel huck splat...

That doesn't mean the ridings not good or the riders dont have some talent, It's just that to me the ridings as boring as bat shit.

So maybe instead of of bagging out dvd's where the styles not your thing you should buy dvd's in the style that interest you.

End rant.

(I did think even by huck splat standards kranked 6 was pretty bad, Ryan Leech was the only saving grace. Well that and the beer!):D

A quieter crowd and louder speakers would be nice. Honestly I had to make up the audio part of the show with songs in my head. Pity it was on soon after our departure. And for everyone's enjoyment, please consider planting your arses on the chairs unless you ABSOLUTELY NEED to move around and irritate all the viewers at the back!

I was on the couch, it took a while sitting there from 6:30 untill K6 came on. I own Drift 3 and love watching it at home cranked (up loud) on my system, but at the launch it didn't get any volume or seem to get any attention apart from 2 crashes (Sam Hill on helmet cam and Some dude in to a tree after zig zagging). It was said that other stuff would be played before K6 came on in the launch forum so why was every one upset? It was supposed to be a social gathering not just get there and watch one dvd and ride off. K6 didn't go for that long once it got started I wasn't sure if it was the beer, the exitement or the fact that it didn't go for that long. But i think it was the latter. Ryan Leech was awsome, the tracks "progressive lines" were well constructed and organised (but some people would prefer it rougher and more unpredictable). I did also think that the Rennie and Peat section could have been better, when they came on I thought this will be awsome and it just didn't stand out from the others much. Over all I still enjoyed it for what it was: a fun night and a fun DVD. I will be getting K6 coz I like the riders and much effort was put in to it. I know it would be much better on a clearer screen with loud crisp 5.1 sound. And I did want to ride after it, but lately I always want to ride.

I thought that Kranked 6 was a let down

i liked ryan leechs part and steve peats but it could have been a lot better

and FFS no more slow-mo!!!!

One of the best things about watching MTB movies is seeing them go bigger and FASTER than anyone else in the world so why slow it down to see the dirt fly up?

I haven't seen NWD 7 yet but hopefully that will be better....
