Hey guys, first post on this forum, been lingering around for a while trying to work out which bike to buy. I finally decided on an STP1, it seemed like a good choice, I liked the bike, the feel of it and the components seemed perfect for what I need it for.

Anyways, I picked up the bike up after they assembled it for me, got it home and realised it had different forks on it than what it was meant to have. The forks that were on the bike were Marzocchi Dirt Jumper 3's, which are 100mm forks. The forks that are meant to be on it are Marzocchi DirtJam Pro's which are 120mm. I took it back and spoke to the guys and he tried to convince me that the forks that were on it were better than what was supposed to be on it.

He told me sometimes in the factory if they don't have the exact part when they are packaging the bike then they just put in an upgraded component instead. He said that the Dirt Jams were made in Taiwan and the Dirt Jumpers were made in Italy, even though they are both made by Marzocchi. He also told me you can't buy the Dirtjam Pro's separately, only if you buy an STP1, then he told me he had a set of the DirtJam pro's out the back and he would swap them over on the spot for me, what a co-incidence that they had them out the back?

Does anyone know the differances between the forks which would be better etc.

The dirt jumpers are the better fork. the dirt jams are the base level fork followed by the pro, then the DJ 3, 2, 1.
Consider youself lucky, u screwed the man and won.
Dont swap the forks.
If ur that desperate for a few more mm, buy a travel up grade kit.
hope this helps

He's actually right. I don't think he's trying to rip you off. Besides that, 100mm forks tend to be more suited to a dirtjump/street hardtail than 120mm forks do anyway.

Wait, you havnt gotten them swapped over yet have you?? because the Dirt jumper 3 is an infinetly better fork than the dirt jam. which is basically a gloridied pogo stick with a wheel. no oil, no adjustments. dj3 isnt by any means the best fork out there, but it is a huge jump in quality over the dirt jam.

Damnit. Haha don't you hate that, I already took the bike back and they swapped them! I'm not really fussed concidering the bike won't be used for anything major like huge jumps and stuff, just for a bit of trail work and street use, I probably wouldn't even notice the differance.

Oops! Next time try the internet like the marzocchi website for help. Oh well better luck next time, maybe try to go in a get some free stuff to compensate?

haha oh well. I looked everywhere before I took the bike back to find out information on the DirtJam's but they weren't on the Marzocchi website and the guy at the store couldn't give me a good reason to keep the DirtJumper3's over the DirtJams apart from the fact that 'they are better' so I just got them swapped back.

Oh well. We learn from our mistakes then hey. And for once, the guys at the shop weren't just trying to sell you something. They were telling the truth, which is nice.

shut up and be happy mate:D

That post is pretty much useless. The kid a ligitimate problem, well, it turned out to be more of a problem.

Dirt Jams are on the Marzocchi website, under "OEM" products. Oh well, the customer is always right, eh? This is too funny :D

I also have a 2007 STP1, except I have upgraded forks.

holy crap.... that spec on a banshee morphine or something similer and that would be the perfect fr hardtail.

but back on topic, to bad about the forks i made a somewhat similer mistake when i brought my stp, i thought that i would get the stp 2 cause it was cheaper and if i wanted to upgrade it to be like the stp 1 it would cost me less than $500 (new forks, hayes 9's, bar/stem) which was the difference between them both. oh well thats enough of me ramberling for now.

Haha that's darcy's frame.

I spoke to him about it, and to crack that frame he was riding state downhill for 2 years before the frame gave up on him.
